shared with pat at selkirk manor. i continue to prune the cellar of bottles with past due drink by dates. although there was no recent feedback from other members i was holding on to this bottle due to parker's projected longevity. the wine proved to be in sound condition and appears to be showing at its best. lots of cherry notes, other dark fruits and earthyness. a hint of sweetness. nice body. strong finish. glad to have enjoyed this wine at its peak. i discovered this producer at a pinot fest held at city winery ten years ago. i have been on the winery's allocation list since then and have purchased several other vintages. i have not made any recent purchases. i need to get back on the bandwagon.

Dull red starting to brick. Clove, cherry, and earth nose. Full bodied, cranberries, brown spices, black cherries, fully integrated tannins, white pepper, and a long, multi-layered finish. Excellent. Drink now.

Eddys of licorice and grass, a nose like a boxer with a chin like Jay Leno. Pops right up when it's opened and offers breezes of chocolate with a finish like The Minnesota Vikings-(takes a knee)

Dark fruited, sweet, medium acid and low tannin, full bodied pinot. It has an unpleasant bitterness through from the middle through an extended finish within the first few hours of opening. This fades with air and leaves a lovely spiciness in its place.

Shows fairly sweet to me. Midpalate is a bit thinner with a sort of slippery finish. I couldn't help but think of a wine gummy bear, though that's way too harsh a description as I enjoyed this well enough.

Drinking at peak now I think. Has the signature earthy notes of Rodgers Creek, which as my preferences shift to Oregon, this is probably my favorite of the Sojourn wines now (although I do still enjoy Sangiacomo a lot).

Much like the previous bottle but a little better nose and smooth fruit/acidity on the palate. A good 1-2 points better than the last bottle. This probably won't be much better and might only fade over the next 1-2 years so drink up.

First note is that there is an industrial cork in the bottle. It's high quality and super dense. There as barely any red on the cork at all. Clear acid with undertones of cherry. I would suggest a few hour decant before drinking if possible. Based on the cork and the acidity I tasted, this wine can stay in the cellar awhile as well if you choose to let it ride.

Pop n' pour. This is guilty pleasure stuff. Forward and unadulterated richly fruited Cali pinot pleasure. Full nose has sweet black cherry, loads of baking spices and cherry cola. Palate is rich and concentrated but balanced with juicy acids. Really easy to drink and enjoy.

Hour decant, but I poured a small glass up front. Initially had nice fruit but a bit too much acidity. After an hour or so the acidity calmed down revealing smooth cola, black cherry, mushroom, and earth.

I recently drank a 2011 and I found the 2012 to be delicious but a bit less distinct than the 2011. I am fairly certain that, due to is sea air, earthy and mushroom flavors that overlay the explosive red raspberry and cherry fruit, I could identify Rodgers Creek from a lineup of just about any Pinot Noirs. This 2012, though, was a bit more subtle in those characteristics (although they are present) but this is not a slight. It was wonderful and smooth until the decanter was empty.

Light to medium ruby color. Fruity nose with a little earth. A bit flat on the palate, Nice fruit, mostly cherry but not that impressive. Lacking some brightness and complexity. Not sure if time will help. Unfortunately another Wine Library hype that I don't like. It's neither Burgundian nor New World/Cali in style. An in between wine I can't quite figure out. To be fair this bottle was driven 300 miles before drinking but is close enough to the last bottle in experience that I will stand by the conclusion. I definitely don't get the varied earth, spice and mineral notes other have experienced in this wine.

Sojourn Tasting Solon Visit (Sonoma Sq.): Tasting room. Another of my favorites from the tasting. Full complex nose has red cherries, herbs and leather notes. Medium bodied palate is leaner and more structured than the other Pinots line up. Crunchy acidity. Red fruit and earth notes. Tight today. Needs time. 90-92.

PnP, no food. Deep red, clear. Big nose of ripe cherry, baking spice, earth. Intense palate of very ripe bing cherry, spice, hints of other dark/very ripe fruits. Nice acidity, medium to full mouthfeel with grippy tannins (for pinot), a bit disjointed at this point. Finish is medium at best. Not my style, feels a bit overdone and mediocre in a crowded $50 CA pinot landscape.

Drank the bottle with four other wine people and it was very good. Could benefit from another year in the cellar to help it come together more. Potential is there just needs a little more time. The Sonoma Coast is much more ready to drink at this point.

Nose of dark strawberries, cardamom and bright red raspberries. Upon pop & pour this fumbles a bit over itself, but withing 15 minutes it finds itself in focus and attack. Red berries with a note of sassafras, this is amazing in its presence and being. Pure and exact this show a nice distinction which in my humble unskilled estimation screams of site and place. You get some intense fruits, soil; pretty aromatics and a whimsical feel, the balance is spot on. Upside of waiting is positive, this has it all in a neat little package called Rodgers Creek. Love it.

Popped and poured, then finished the next night. Aroma has plum and black cherry, along with a bit of earthiness and some baking spice. The taste is a pretty nice fruit forward showing of dark cherry, but there is a good deal of acidity on the mid-palate and its finish trends toward being a bit hot. This is much more balanced than a couple recent CA Pinots I had from Siduri & Sandler. I think this will settle down some over the next year based on how I've liked prior vintages. I'll be interested to see how the remaining 3 bottles develop.
