Tasted after a 75 minute decant. Medium ruby in colour with aromas of leather & earthy forest floor. On the palate, medium bodied tart red/black fruit, red/black cherry, leather, earthy, cedar, hint tar, high acidity, medium-high soft tannins with a long finish to floral sour cherry & spice. This is lovely Sangiovese & has aged beautifully! Looking forward to my next vintage of this wine, 2016.

Ruby red. Incredibly aromatic. You could smell this from a few feet away as it was poured. Juniper, anise, black fruit, tobacco, charred wood. Beautiful. Medium bodied, with a perfect acidity to accentuates the back fruit and stoney minerality on the fire, then a minty oregano (nepitella?) on the mid to comingle with a beautiful blackberry and raspberry fruit. Silky smooth tannins. The finish is more of a roasted herb and espresso and leather. Just gorgeous. This riserva is in perfect stride strutting it's stuff. My last bottle, regrettably. This has quite a bit of life in it, but no sense in waiting. Excellent!

Deep black core with red edges. Aromas of blackberry, spice, pipe tobacco, and juniper. Medium bodied with lusciously smooth tannins. Juicy blackberry and black cherry with roasted herbs and toasty wood. Theres a nice lingering finish of pine and birch, which is enjoyable. Very nice Chianti Classico, drinking beautifully right now.

Youthful purple color. Smoky tobacco and juniper berries dominate, with minerals and cherries, ending with anise and flowers. Perfectly balanced, with great acid to hold up with good Tuscan food. Loads of black forest fruit in the mouth, with all those herbs and crushed stones. Very nice. This should age well yet. Not quite the depth or richness of some other riservas, but still a very good dinner wine.

Well, i am not too impressed with the wine as it seems to be more standard than anything else. i had it over 2 nights to see how it would fare, and it did not evolve into something better. So i start to think it will never turn into something better... i think i will let the rest of the bottles stay on hold and wait to see how they will do in 5 years from now.

Mazzei Visit (Castellina-in-Chianti, Tuscany, Italy): Nose: The nose is upfront, pretty, and quite red fruited with raspberries, strawberries, roasted herbs, red cherries, red florals, and spice tones. There is excellent balance to the nose, but it is lacking depth and distinction as it is mostly straightforward on the red fruits.
Taste: Medium bodied with medium+ acidity and medium+ tannins. The tannins are a bit coarse and the acidity is a bit astringent, but the feel has a refined quality to it along with raspberries, strawberries, roasted herbs, spice notes, and some red florals.
Overall: This is a good Chianti Classico, but, it doesn't truly sing. The feel is a bit coarse and it's a bit monotoned. Still, it's quite enjoyable and well worth drinking.

Well, from the other reviews here, it seems like i caught the wine in a phase where it is shot down, as i decanted it for an hour and had it over an entire evening. There was nothing going on at all.

The 2011 Chianti Classico Riserva Ser Lapo is dark, fleshy and expressive. A firm backbone of tannin lends support as the 2011 opens up in the glass. Sweet red cherry, raspberry, spice and floral notes emerge, but only with great reluctance. For a vintage that yielded so many open, radiant wines, the 2011 Ser Lapo is quite reticent at this stage. Readers should plan on cellaring the 2011 for at least another 2-3 years. It will be interesting to see what time brings. Drinking window: 2017-2031. Score - 92+. Retailer tasting (@ O in H): Cherries, some earthy flavors, a touch of sweetness, firm acidity and good tannin. Fairly full bodied. Good wine with a pleasant qpr. Wait a few years, for some more finesse and complexity. 88+

Sour red berries, lots of oak which was not so apparent in a previous bottle. Hint of espresso, herbs and spices. Vibrant acidity. The oak is on verge of being too much. For the price, will not buy again.

Lots of oak on this. Nose even has a Spanish touch of vanilla and American oak. Behind the oak there is some sour cherries, a little bretty barnyard, some more oak, wood, and some green herbs. Medium acidity, medium(-) tannins, medium body, lacking a bit of intensity and length. Still a rather pleasing wine, and even though the oak is very pronounced, for once it doesn't really bother me.

@Oenocosmos. Medium intensity nose with red fruits, some cedar scents with earth and leather in the background. Medium body with the same flavors, round tannins, which make their appearance more evident in the medium finish.

Dark ruby-garnet. Expressive nose with coffee roast, red cherry, earthyness and a musty element that I initially perceived as cork taint but probably it was not. Medium-bodied with very soft tannins, ripe fruit, medium acidity and a disappointingly short aftertaste. Nice, typical and easy-drinking Chianti Classico whose only draw back is its rather short finish.

Very traditional Chianti.
