Sweet fruity nose of dark berries, hints ofsmoked sausage and acetone. Dense and packed with fruit, some earth aromas. Rather heavy and with high alcohol but overall in good place with great balance. Full bodied with a very long finish. Felt more mature than any of the other 4 in this flight. Again hard do pin down as this seems to be a rather light version CdP. Tasted blind. 93p

Not as good as last time around, though it had tougher competition this time and was scrutinized more intensely.
Lots of fruit, blackcurrants, dark sweet cherries, root beer (or more correctly, julmust), dried fruit, some bay leaves and a little herbs. Not the most complex nose of the night. High acidity, but balanced by a sweetish fruit. No tannins to speak of and a long, but slightly warm finish. Lacking a bit of elegance, but still very, very tasty!

CDP Offline at Heyday (Donjon Vertical; Clos des Pape, Charvin, plus Whites) (Heyday, Mpls, MN): Very dark red color. PNP, followed one glass over 1 hour plus. This was definitely the most disappointing of the group. I certainly was expecting more given the reviews and CT notes. But this was a disjointed mess of a wine tonight, alcohol on the nose and palate, oaky, very spicy. Not something I could drink on this evening. No score, impression mid-80's.

This is a truly impressive wine. Spicy nose full of barnyard, olives, meat and dark fruit.
Had it not been for the very warm alcohol this would have gotten even a higher score. Full bodied, good fresh acidity. Round, but distinct tannins and a long, long, long finish. Drinks very well right now, feels very open and has some nice maturity. Wouldn't be afraid to cellar it for a few more years though. Let's see how long we can keep our fingers of the next bottle!

2014 New Year's Day Tasting $100+ (Marietta, GA): My second bottle; dark ruby purple to rim; smells noble, tart berry, rich, layered, spice, orange; alcoholic, rich and deep, red and dark fruit, fig, tannic, grainy texture, sandalwood, sweet spice, meat juice, very masculine and structured; people all over the place from Italy to Bordeaux (it can get that way 13 bottles in); very young and delicious but in need of 3-5 years at least; 91+.

Sabon Prestige/Secret Vertical (Restaurant AOC): Nose: a bit strange. Mostly black pepper and only a little dark plum. Cola? Palate: Almost no fruit, short flavor profile, dry and very unstructured. Could be a bad bottle?

Châteauneuf-du-Pape prestige cuvées. (FOF): Dark red center with a purple rim. A restrained nose with ripe cherry, pepper, herbs de provence and black ink. Some cherry and raspberry on the well structured palate, and a herbaceous note. Some pepper on the midpalate. Superb balance and good length ending with powerfull tannins, but this seems to be holding back on all fronts at the moment.

Debatable, but slightly corked, I think.

CH9 semi blind vertical tasting of Pegau, Beaucastel and Salon 1990-2009 (Nordsjaelland): Lots of farmyard. No caramel at all like I found in the other two vintages from Roger Sabon. Seems like Secret de Sabon develops faster than Pegau and Beaucastel as the tertiary notes are more prominent
