This producer is always a hit or a miss for me. This was a miss. The wine lacked structure and felt sort of watery without much acidity and very little fruit Maybe it was an off bottle or it’s already past it’s prime.

An eclectic lineup including a 2002 Valbuena, 2016 SamiOdi Hoffman Dallwitz Shiraz, 2009 Reserve de la Comtesse, and 2009 LeMacchiole Paleo. The nose and palate of this wine is brambly raspberry, cola, and fig jam. Definitely not your robust youthful fruit bomb that you see from Gap's Crown pinots upon initial release, but was showing a lot of different character today. Really good wine. Went very well with a spiced nut combo. If you have these, it's time to start popping them open!

Drinking beautifully, with some age resembles a younger Burgundy. Ripe cherries, vanilla, silky and delicious. The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry, cherry and mushroom. The body is medium/full. The wine has silky texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity.

This bottle of Pinot was brought to a wine dinner and was smooth as silk. Cranberry, cherry cola, and spice box. Great wine and finished extremely quickly.

Dark ruby with a touch of brown around the edges. Medium legs. Cherry and some vanilla on the nose. This became more prominent about an hour after the bottle was opened. Light to medium on the palate. Some cherry and raspberry with some slight spice. Nicely balance. Medium finish with hints of dark fruit.

Terrific Pinot Noir. Pours medium garnet clear and medium legs. The nose is exquisite and classic PN. Pure redfruit. First taste was fresh black cherry and raspberry with a hint of pepper on the finish. Medium tannins and medium acidity. Oddly as it opened up, the wine became heavier, more tongue coating and stronger acidity with more tart cherry and dare I say cough syrupy notes. I had some cheese to see if that would soften it as normally a wine will mellow or soften but this wine got harsher edges. Still an outstanding California PN. Enjoyed with @samuel de lafoye

I waited for years to be able to buy the single vineyards only to find that in some vintages the appellation wines outshine the single vineyard wines. Gaps Crown is not my favorite single vineyard--it seems too monolithic. I do not believe this estate has held its quality since the founder's sold.

Holidays 2021; 11/30/2021-1/2/2022 (Dogwood Grove, Arlington, VA): A very interesting wine, with an amaro-like bitterness woven into the pinot noir red fruit. Like a great wine should, it evolves in the glass, changing from a lithe, sparkly pinot into something more brooding and sophisticated. That all being said, I might prefer a more straightforward expression of pinot.

Medium garnet in color. Cherry and red raspberry fruit, a little baking spice, and then well integrated oak on the finish. Nice wine, just didn't stand out as much for me as others have written.
11/5/2023. Still bright color and fruit, though more of the bramble sort than cherry. Not much in secondary notes, but nice, subtle oak finish.

Notes similar to last time. Medium garnet color. Sour cherries with spice and forest floor dust. A little savory note underlying the red fruit in the well rounded body with good acid balance. Tannins are resolved with a long finish. Loved it.

Dark fruit on the nose when first started decanting, black currant, Concorde grape, and strawberry jam. Up front, currant and a fair bit of heat. Long finish lingers with a bit of black pepper, oak, and overripe blueberries.
A half hour after opening, has mellowed but the flavors are consistent. Fruit fades a bit and more oak comes through. Pepper remains. Really delicious.

Served with pork cordon bleu, salad. Pretty, medium-deep ruby. Nose was initially muted, opened after a bit to floral with a touch of earthiness and a touch of dark cherry. Medium weight, nicely balanced acid and tannin (mild on the tannin). Worked very well with the rich pork. Strong 91 or mild 92, take your choice on a score for a lovely drinking wine.

Well this is my 56th tasting note on KB wines and in one word, delicious. This was splash decanted and chilled to cellar temp to sip outside on the first 80 degree day here in central CT. I got out the tape measure, 6' apart and we had our neighbors over for non-shared wine and apps on the back deck. (They sipped a Turley Zin BTW). The nose was very appealing, red fruits and a floral note, maybe hyacinth. Smooth tannins medium finish. Sad when my wife and I noticed the bottle was finished after 2 hours of chatting and laughter with our friends. That being said I am never sure the single-vineyard bottles are any "better" than the appellation bottlings. I do intend to do a blind Coravin tasting of the 2015 vintage and test that out at some point. Stay tuned!

Tremendous CA pinot. This wine needs at least two hours to open up. When it did, it filled the mouth with wonderful red and dark red fruit flavors. It is also very pure and without defects.

KB put forth a really nice wine here. Sometimes the Gaps Crown offering can push the limits of ripeness and hedonism; but this great offering was held in check nicely. Rather shy nose at first that took some time in glass to evolve. Dark cherry, strawberry, menthol, and red raspberry on both the bouquet and palate. There are some excellent secondary notes of umami and mushroom that have evolved nicely. I believe this has hit its prime drinking window now. Certainly not the elegance of a Chambolle Musigny, but a great expression of Pinot here !

Dark cherries, a note of spice, and a touch of lead pencil (just the recently sharpened point, I think), this is a lovely drinking wine with a round, balanced texture almost no tannins. I think I'll use the lead pencil to check the box for more.

Decanted about 1 hour and drank over several hours. Side by side with 13 Russian River. Started out hot, lot’s of alcohol. Leveled out quicker than the RR. Ended the night very balanced, nice berry flavor. Although a very nice wine, not sure the $30 difference in price for a Pinot is worth it.

A stellar effort with dark red fruit, cherry and spice predominating the flavor profile. As it got more air it seemed to relax and open a bit more but this clearly has the ability for a long cellar life. Fruits are fresh but beginning to fully integrate. The mouthfeel is exquisite.

Pnp, Nice rose petal, cherry creme, almost a strawberry chocolate on nose. Very soft and fruit nose. A bit of watermelon candy nose. Alcohol seems a bit high, but not overwhelming. Almost a waxy strawberry chocolate flavor. Nice mouthfeel, coats the pallet well. Strawberry nose comes out also on the flavor. 93+

Rich, full of red and dark berry flavors; a little punchy but not tart. Was worried that this was too young, but turned out to be well balanced already after 30 minute decant.

I think it still may be a bit early for this one. Opened as the first bottle of wine in our new home. Didn't decant and first glass, while very well balanced, lacked the complexity that I thought it should have. After being opened about an hour the second glass took on a totally different personality. Opened up nicely and much more to my liking. With that being said, I think this one will age VERY well and so we will be in no rush to consume the other 5 we have remaining.

After years on the waiting list finally got my first Gap's Crown, I was not disappointed. A little savory note underlying the red fruit and spice box in the nose well rounded body with good acid balance. Tannins are firm but not harsh and medium finish. This will definitely cellar another 5 plus years so may let its twin rest awhile.

This is a beautiful deep red with lots of chocolate and cola flavors. I decanted for about 45 minutes and it opened nicely. It was excellent with a green curry pork loin. Should continue to age very well.

Pnp,
Nice rose petal, cherry creme, almost a strawberry chocolate on nose.

Very dark color. Very developed with tons of flavor! Dark cherry, spice, cola and a super long finish.

First of their single vineyards I've had the opportunity to try - very impressed with the Gap's Crown. PnP was quite nice but it improved considerably the net day.

Confirms that we just don't love the KB's. A bit too big, alcohol coming through.

Beautiful ruby red color in glass, scent of tobacco, lead pencil and black currant fruit, medium body with a nice lingering aftertaste with some tannins

Got my 1st single vineyard KB, and the Gap's Crown didn't disappoint. Well worth the wait.

30 minute decant at Morgan's Steakhouse with non-wine-nerd audience. Wowed the group. Very drinkable - certainly appears to be age-worthy. Full nose and body but not overwhelming in any area - seemed surprising balanced to me for only about 15 months in bottle.

Still a baby, strong cherry and cola flavors...needed an hour to calm down. Full bodied, with a long finish, it will be interesting to see where this goes.

Very interesting nose. Lots of minerality and smokiness on the nose. A hint of cherry. Great fruit on the palate soft but good complexity. Very fun to drink and seems like it will develop well.
