2nd time I have had this wine but the last time was in 2017. 75% Cabernet Franc and 25% Merlot from Sonoma County. 14.6% alcohol. Crimson color. Full bodied. An earthy wine with blueberry, cassis and wet earth notes. Firm tannins. This wine has gotten more rustic since I last had it. Drink now. 88 points.

Opened and slow ox’d in the bottle for 2 hrs, then drank over 2hrs. This is drinking exceptionally well. Spectacular nose - a lot of tobacco, some black fruit, some floral notes. Tertiaries emerging, and very delicious. Hints of coffee. Palate follows the nose. Intense and generous, but the tertiaries add a sense of elegance and balance. Tannins are much better integrated than in previous bottle. Same goes for oak. This bottle was fully mature and I suspect at its peak. Really, really good. Wish I had more.

Aging beautifully still...tannins hanging on but softening. White pepper, smoked meat, leather, black fruit on the nose - nice. Good minerality, balance on palate with raspberry and rock. Long, light finish. Two more left!

Opened and slow ox’d in the bottle for 3 hrs, then drank over the next 2hrs. This is drinking very, very well. Spectacular nose - a lot of tobacco, red and esp. black fruit, vanillin, some floral notes. Hints of coffee. Palate follows the nose. Intense and generous, but not cloying. Tannins are still quite noticeable, but do not get in the way. Ditto for oak. Some minerality - in the form of crushed rocks. Hints of tertiary notes emerging too. I will revisit in 2-3 yrs or so. My sense is this could further evolve in interesting ways, with more tertiary notes emerging. Quite impressed.

Really good and drinking much younger then 13 years. Dark ripe toasted red fruits with some tobacco leaf. This is both intense and saturated.. Nice friendly red fruits with a creamy rich texture. A real guilty pleasure and plenty of life left. Classic Bob Foley from his heyday years. Very Californian.

Drinking very well right now. No tasting notes recorded, needed very little air, maybe 20 minutes and it built from here. Good balance between fruit and tannin. Drink now, but still has some time left in the bottle.

Very scary upon first opening, we were concerned it was past its prime. But over the course of two hours this bottle of Cab Franc really opened up and became a delicious example of Pride CF. Great mouthfeel, great nose that grew better with each glass. No sign of the alcohol or heat. Drink soon - it's not likely to get better.

I tried one of these bottles a few months back and it was drinking well but this bottle was past its prime. Decent structure and drank like an older Bordeaux but most of the fruit had been lost. Have 2 more bottles so will see if this is bottle variation or I pushed the envelope a little to long on this one.

This wine is drinking quite nicely currently. There is fruit and structure with some nice tertiary flavors noted. I have liked this wine historically and still do. The wine best pairs with food....

In perfect shape, don't its at an ideal time to drink - no hard edges, has shed the majority of they heavy fruit and shows superb notes of tobacco, spices and currant. Acid and tannin completely in tune, right at that perfect stage between primary and secondary.

No decant, drank right out of the bottle. I like this wine but mostly I find it to be a bit too dry on the finish, so much so that it's overpowering the fruit for me. Everyone else seems to think this wine is at the end of its life, but I actually think I would want to hold it a bit longer...

Dark, inky crimson color. Aromas of herbs, mint, tobacco, red currants and black cherry. Tobacco and herb notes become more prominent as it sits. Medium-bodied,with spice, red fruit and herb flavors. Almost has a garrigue quality to it. Finishes well, with good length, balance and fruit. Drinking very well right now.

Pulled the cork and allowed to breathe in bottle about an hour before dinner. Crimson color. Aromas of tobacco, dried herbs, red fruit and underbrush. Medium-bodied with full-integrated tannins and lavers of lush red fruits, herbs and plum. Certainly not dead- definitely in its window and should hold for a while though probably not improve. Drink now-2018.

This wine never disappoints, my 3rd bottle and I love it just as mush a the first. I feel like this is Foley with some reigns as the alcohol is not perceptively high, the fruit is plush and persistent, with silky smooth tannins and a long, perfume and fruit laden finish. Mocha dusted cherries, blackberry, licorice and spicy/sweet oak aromas and flavors.

We had this bottle with a couple of flannery nys. This bottle did not reflect the TN of another CT user from 1/6/13. This had another 3-5 years left. We popped and poured and it started opening after 30 minutes and was continuing to do so for 90 minutes. After 90 it didn't get any better. Wonderful nose of dark fruit and violets from the get go. Nice and soft on the palate with dark fruit, spices, and earthiness. This was the last of my 04s, haven't touched any of the 05s. I drank because the CT window shows this is the last year -- not so for this bottle or others like it.

Plum, dark current and acidity on the front, tobacco and cocoa on the finish. A real mouthful. We cellared this wine from the beginning and it was worth the wait!

This was my first of 4 bottles of this wine/vintage. I was skeptical as a friend of mine recently opened one and said it was "dead". He couldn't tell if it was simply corked or maybe had been "cooked" during shipping to Florida. So i immediately opened a bottle to see how mine had fared. I was very pleased with the blueberry and spice that showed through. I only hope the next 3 bottles are as good.

Popped and poured. Nice wine, but I would not cellar it much longer. Retains distinctive cab franc fruit, mountain fruit sinew, broadly herbaceous, reasonable weight.

What a disappointment. I am a big fan of the vintage and varietal and just recently returned from a visit to Pride. However, this bottle was beyond disappointing. PNP. Earth and barnyard jumped out of the glass at me. I thought I was in Bordeaux for a minute. My group of four turned their noses up at this and it ended up getting poured down the drain. Given that, I do not have more detailed tasting notes.

Pop and pour from a 1.5L. A nice improvement compared to a recent tasting out of a 750, this bottle had more heft and weight, with a lusher mouthfeel, more depth, and a longer finish. Really enjoyable, and a nice reminder how a larger bottle can make a difference.

Pop and pour. Pipe tobacco, plum, and leather, with a heavy dose of blueberry. Wine has a nice overall polish to it, with silky tannins that are in the later phase of life.... drinking very well right now, if slightly beyond its peak.

Opened last minute and was delicious. Very nice California Cab Franc. Had some bell pepper and spice, but I did not taste the heavy oak that others have. It went well with the Chicken Braised with Figs, Honey and Vinegar I made for dinner (a Zuni Cafe recipe - delicious).

WOTN at a party. Opened and allowed to breathe for oh, maybe ten minutes. Good from the start, but really opened up after an hour or so. Nice nose of fruit, spices, and vanilla. Unlike other Pride cab francs I've had, the vanilla and mocha were present, but not the dominant flavors, which were various blue and black fruits and just a hint of bell pepper. Extremely well balanced right now, with adequate tannins but no rough edges. Very luxurious texture and a reasonably long, rich finish. Based on my impression of the wine, along with my recent experience with an over-the-hill '03 Pride cab franc, I'd say this one's at its peak right now but probably not for a whole lot longer.

Pop and pour, drunk over 4 hours. Best in the first 2 hours, began thinning out and taking on some green notes afterwards. Would drink over the coming 3 years, sooner if only 2 were drinking the bottle. Shows traditional CF blue and spice notes, medium-light in weight/body, good amount of pepper.

The Blind Drunks monthly tasting (Rich & Dana's): Garnet color. Gorgeous bouquet of red fruit, herbs and roasted red bell pepper. Amy detected some iodine. Lush red fruit, herbs and dark fruit. Bordeaux-like. 93+ pts. Guessed Cali Cab.

This is back to its own self after a dissapointing bottle last time. Leafy, minty, medium bodied, it has fully adopted varietal character after a few years impersonating a Cabernet Sauvignon. The acidity is a bit higher than the Merlot and Cabernet of the same vintage, this is excellent wine that is ... less filling (to paraphrase the 1980s Bud Lite commercials).

Upon opening, medium bodied, fresh black olives. In the back of the mouth and finish, it just disappears. At first I though I didn't take enough of a sip so after 3 more mouthfuls it was clear. It's a bit bizarre but enjoyable.

Friday Night Brown Bagger (Rich & Dana's): Deep crimson color. Notes of roasted red bell pepper, tobacco, a little funk (maybe a bit of brett?). Flavors of currants and berry, with a nice earthy undertone. 93+ pts. I was sure this was Bordeaux, as was everyone else. Most agreed on Pauillac. The surprise of the night in my book.

Probably began at an 87, but after about 30 minutes really opened up. As is the case with most Pride Cab Francs I've come in contact with, the oak is a solid presence. But after a little time in the decanter it really balanced out with good mountain fruit.

Very sweet nose redolent of oaky vanillin. In the palate, it is a shame to discover the fruit does not stand up to the oak, which dominates the flavor profile. Age has not been kind to this wine as the initially brighter fruit masked the overt oak treatment. I wonder what would have happened to this wine with half the new oak. Not tasted blind.
No probado a ciegas.

Green pepper, barn yard, and mud on the nose. A strong vegatal quality with hints of mineral/graphite, but some interesting dark fruit as well. Something about the smell and flavor of pure Cab Franc reminds me of a napa barrel room - the first morning sip of a wine flight. This paired nicely with food.

Decanted 3 hours. Nose - briar patch, oak, black cherry and licorice. Creme de cassis, cola, tobacco, shale rock and gravel. Old world taste and body. Tannic and tight with abreviated finish. A bit on the green side, needs another 3-5 years in cellar.

nose was very muted at first, but then opened nicely into a floral nose and a sweet choclolate sniff to it. Gritty tannin on the mid palate with dark cherries, chocolate, and a sweet flowery texture, maybe the best pride cab franc I have had

Dark garnet, translucent. Somewhat dusty/weedy smelling. Medium bodied with cocoa and high toned red fruit. Violet finish. Rather fragrant, but somewhat dried out and lacking the fruit that I usually expect with Pride. An '02 Pride Merlot which followed this was remarkably more youthful and richer than this.

Double decanted and poured, and then consumed over 5 hours. Full-bodied wine that is dark magenta in color. On the nose, dark fruits and herbs. On the palate, creamy cassis, dark chocolate, and toasted oak on a very long 30-40 second finish. The balance is decent, but the tannins are a bit chalky/bitter compared to other Pride wines I've had. In the end, what you get is a nice wine, but I'm a touch disappointed when considering my expectations.

PnP after 2 hours open. Still holding in there, but seems to be 'going soft'. Graphite and cherries with significant vanilla/oak and chocalate/olive tampenade on the nose. Fleshy palate with gritty (ripe) tannins and lower acidity than I noted last year. While this lacked finesse or complexity, it did deliver on intesity of aromas and flavor and the tannins, though softening, were a great foil for the filets (which stole the show tonight).

Way overboard after a Pecchenino dolcetto, but without that transition, a joy to drink. Quite rich but it does have structure to support most but not quite all of that richness. Other than that quibble, my other thought is that this doesn’t to me exhibit what I think of as the characteristics of cab franc, the slightly green or herbal iron tang that I get in a lot of Loire or Spanish versions. Of course, my character is someone else's thin and tart, so YMMV...

A long weekend in Seaside, OR; 6/5/2009-6/7/2009 (Seaside, OR): Upon opening, the nose had some bell pepper, brett, and tart red fruit aromas. With about an hour of air it picked up some earthy aromas, but the horsey note was still there. The palate showed flavors of dark fruits, and notes of olives or mushrooms. Nice mouthfeel and a fairly long finish. A nice bottle of Cab Franc, and a good bottle to have with a pizza.

An initial nose of cocoa, coffee, blueberry and toast that later developed a not unpleasant raw steak note. A big ripe, palate with blueberry, cherry and acetone. Definitely a new world Cab Franc. Wonderfully complex and flavourful but even after an hour of decanting I found the flavours too concentrated for my liking A good dose of acid, but maybe not enough tannin for the high alcohol and super ripe palate.

Previous tasting back in 2001, this Cab Franc has lost some of the high fruit wow, but it's still drinking very well. One hour of air certainly required to open up, very saturated chocolate, oak, vanilla and spice. Very flamboyant in style, very nice.

dense dark berry and chocolate notes; hints of green veggies in the background; tannins and medium acidity in the background; bright, sweet and almost liqueur like; delicious, in a big california pride way; not sure if the fruit will outlast the chocolate; more open on day two and the chocolate blew off making this much more food friendly...reassuring that this can come together with more time

Purple color. Not the usual ripe/sweet Pride CF bouquet; nice but not jumping out of the glass as in prior good years. Dark fruits on the palate, medium finish, not tannic or acidic. A nice, very nice, bottle of wine but not nearly the quality of the 2001 or 2002. This one was also seriously outclassed by the 2005 Wolf Family CF (had the previous night), which sells for the same price.

This Cab Franc has a very Cabernet Sauvignon personality. Missing are the aromatic mint and floral notes. The usual dash of acidity that Pride Cab Francs from great years have was also missing. This is a fuller bodied, serious, low acid Cab-like wine. There is good flavor coverage and surprisingly tight tannins. It is very enjyable if you can resist the tannin attack.

Popped this to help "explore" the decision to order off the new mailer from Pride; it's making a persuasive case. Rich earth, beam of oak and slathered with purple fruit on the nose, it's even more diverse in the mouth. Could be too rich but well balanced with thick acidity, even minerality. Still chewy and tannic, only thing I found off putting was a medicinal note on the midpalate or so. Long finish that left me smacking my lips for more. Ok, hell, I'm in on the mailer, at least for more of this.

Earthy on the nose and palate on first tasting. Teeth coating tannins. All these integrated and softened with air to produce a lush wine with strong red fruits and some cherry and a long, warm finish. Nice concentration while not being an overpowering fruit bomb.

Deep ruby red with fruity/oaky nose. Almost has a jammy zin like quality on the nose with hints of mint, menthol and licorice. On the palate the wine has dark fruit and good acidity, with no under ripe or green flavors. The oak is not reticent, and could use some more time to integrate. The wine is not soft or supple, but might well become so...perhaps opened too soon. Has enough acid and tannin backbone to last a few more years. Moderate finish...could that be from youth?

Double decanted for four hours and consumed over another four hours. Very dark and teeth staining purple color. Still very tight and primary with the tell tale Foley aromatics of blueberry and oak. The wine is still very primary and a bit all over the place during the course of the evening. Medium bodied with a bit of sweet blueberry and kirsch flavors. Very smooth tannins but the finish was short and a bit thin. This is not an early drinking Pride at this point.

Kavana Wine Tasting - California Cabernet (Seattle, WA): Opened to have one final wine that was a little softer and less tannic than the rest of the Cabernet Sauvignon lineup. Textbook Pride Cab Franc. Big, spicy and leafy, a real winner. Lots of sappy, lush mocha notes ala many Pride wines but with a softer, more generous delivery than the Cabernet. People really enjoyed finishing up with this wine.

From magnum. This tasted less young than the '03 I had at about the same stage of development, and without the decidedly "green" element of that wine. Rich and mouthcoating, this still had plenty of backbone and delineation. Dark red fruits, a bit of mocha, some toast, espresso, and maybe a bit of tar. Much more interesting finish than the '04 Merlot served along side.

No tasting notes recorded. I made a quick drive up to Pride on Labor day to pick up some wine in storage and had a quick taste of the 2004 Cab Franc. Wow, that’s some juice, such a huge powerful and sweet wine. Just loads of blackberry, blueberry, cassis, vanilla. A medium finish and just drinking surprisingly well right now. Tasted alongside the 2004 Merlot and 2003 Cab and the Cab Franc was my clear favorite of the three.

Decanted for 20 minutes. Full-bodied wine that is dark garnet/purple in color. On the nose, dark berry fruits, menthol, and herbs. On the palate, creamy cassis, dark chocolate, and more herbs. Unfortunately forgot to write my tasting note and have forgotten some specifics. That said, it was an amazing cab franc. It had the floral quality and spice but unlike many cab francs, it also had good body and a nice finish. I haven't forgotten that I need to pick up more of this beauty.

Deep, viscous garnet. Powerful nose of blueberry, black berry and vanilla. There is a distinct oak influence on the nose. That said, this seems nicely restrained compared to the ’03. This is certainly a full mouthful of wine. The finish is mostly fruit with little heat and a noticeable dose of tannin. This begs for 5 to 7 years of cellar time – at which time I think this will be really good. (15+)

Sampled at the winery. Early morning tasting, bottle open 30-45mins. Big blue fruits, a little sharp from the oak and alcohol, but I'm thinking from prior Pride CFs that'll soften in the coming year. I really enjoyed this, and bought a few more. They are still selling this at the winery, if not through the mailer, at the moment.

I expected this to be a little better even at this young stage. It took a good half hour before it got kick-started out of its tannic shell. Oaky throughout, it started showing some nice fruit after a bit, but never really went full throttle. For those fearing (or hoping for) a fruit bomb, this is not it. The fruit also never overtook the tannins or the green notes (more herbal than stemmy). Just seems a little disjointed at this stage. I expect it to all settle down and it has the stuffing to be pretty good, if not typical of Pride.

No decant, drank right out of the bottle. I like this wine but mostly I find it to be a bit too dry on the finish, so much so that it's overpowering the fruit for me. Everyone else seems to think this wine is at the end of its life, but I actually think I would want to hold it a bit longer...

Earth and barnyard jumped out of the glass at me. I thought I was in Bordeaux for a minute. My group of four turned their noses up at this and it ended up getting poured down the drain. Given that, I do not have more detailed tasting notes.

Fleshy palate with gritty (ripe) tannins and lower acidity than I noted last year. While this lacked finesse or complexity, it did deliver on intesity of aromas and flavor and the tannins, though softening, were a great foil for the filets (which stole the show tonight).

Amazingly consistent impression as I had in January. Again decanted 2 hours and this wine was at full throttle. Nice combination of weighty spicey fruit, oak, tannins and acid. Really food freindly. Not terribly complex or riveting.

Decanted and consumed over several hours. Took about 25 minutes for the wine to open up and have the alcohol blow off. More complex and full than I recall from my last tatsting.

Big brash and bold. Mocha and blueberry fruit that is rather clumsy – in tough company tonight. The old world wines just so much more depth and complexity. (87)

deep garnet. Nose had less overt fruit/sweetness than the young 2004 tasted a few years ago. But it still was all Pride. Taste was a touch oak, plums/dried herbs. Very good but I don't see it getting better with more age.

Fun bottle with cherry, brown sugar and some cedar on the nose. Soft mouthfeel and nice fruit complexity. Medium finish. Nice little party in the bottle.

Popped and poured. It was my WOTN. Probably would have been even better with an hour or more in the decanter.

While this has the concentration and finish and overall enjoyment factor to warrant a 90 point score, my TN experience is closer to Parker's than Tanzer's.

Not nearly as aromatically flamboyant as the 1998, 2001 & 2002. Decent, but not as good as the best vintages.

Decanted 2 hours. Violet red. Great nose of red currant and cherries with vanilla-oak and spice. Very nice balance of slightly sweet fruit, acidity and grainy tannins. With this balance this could age nicely, but it is wide open now. Paired well with beef short ribs braised in a red wine-based braise.

Excellent. Dark ruby red violet color with currants and oak mixed with a bit of a peppery scent on the nose. Lucious fruit flavors with acidity and tannins nicely in balance. No need to wait on this one, it is drinking great right now.

Cherries, earthy currants, tobacco and bright acidity. Oak is present and noticeable but not too offensive and rather typical of Foley style. Not up to the level of the 97, 01 or 02 but this is pretty nice. 91

Opened and decanted for 1 1/4 hours, then consumed over 3 hours. Fairly soft and approachable after the decant time. Light in weight, some chocolate. blackberry and a little alcohol on a the 15 second finish. Was more enjoyable than the notes indicate, but I'm admittadly a Pride CF whore.

Paired with braised veal short ribs with five asian spices. Balance is good but needs more time in the bottle. Decanted one hour than back in bottle for 3 hours. Love Pride but following a Marcassin Blue Slide pinot in this food/wine tasting was a bit of whiplash.

Pleasantly surprised -- thought I would be overwhelmed by the sweetness and upfrontedness of this wine, but what I found was a refined flavor that was extremely enjoyable. Still very modern in style, yet showed the class of something produced by a truly great winery.

Lots of upfront charm but lacked the stuffing to be a great Pride. Also detected a bit of that vegetal green element as reported before. Good but not gret. Also preferred this to the 2004 Merlot.

Wonderful structure and balance to this wine, but the tannins are still a bit grippy for prime drinking pleasure. That said, I enjoyed it greatly and look forward to trying it again next year!

after about an hour in the decanter it was pumping out concentrated purple flower flavors/smells and round grainy tannins wer eveident. It also had a meadowy smell/ flavor to it that wasn't quite herb and wasn't quite earth (wouldn't go as far as barnyard) medium finish. very nice.
