Still very dark colored. Red and black berries with some plum notes. Nice balance between acidity and silky tannins. Oak is noticeable but nicely integrated. Drinking beautifully now. I don't know that it will get any better with further age but it seems like it has the structure to last several more years.

Bottle opened two hours before lunch. Last third decanted because grained sediments. Pristine cork. Still a dark colour. Initially on the nose showed pretty closed. Aromas emerging as notes of gooseberries, marzipan, stew, leather, blonde tobacco, coffee bean, oriental spices or that grass around the swimming pool. Elegant complexity, rustic no more what is very usual for well-aged wines from Toro. On the palate this wine performed like a younger one. Plenty of acidity, medium-bodied, warmly alcoholic, savoury and quite long. More on the RdD side this time. The power of vintage blended with terroir and winemaker's hand. Definitely recommend.

similar to last bottle. To me the American oak has distinctly different taste that I like less than French oak (is this all mental illness or true taste) but still a very pleasant bottle of wine

Mini Wednesday Wine Lunch (Rocknroller's (Kevin & Vicki's Place)): Very dark red/purple color. PNP, drank a glass plus over 90 minutes. This have served us well over the years and with 15 plus years it is still going strong. There's almost a mountain, wild berry character to the pretty dark berry fruits; sweet blackberries, creme de cassis and mulberry, very floral, dusty minerality and dried earth. The palate follows suit well showing that dark berry fruit with blackberry and cassis, hints of blue fruits, dusty tannins and dried earth. My last bottle and good to go out on a high note, but you can drink this over at least another 3 years easily. 93 to 93+pts.

Found this bottle at 33€ (or 36€ - I don't remember exactly) at a restaurant. Young San Román have never impressed me but this was a fantastic wine that without a doubt was better than the 2007 Pintia I also tasted same evening. More body, meaty and juicy and with better integrated - less raw - tannins. Harmony despite a bigger style. Long finish. This amazing wine put me in a state of happiness as if I had taken some kind of drug... This wine is only entering the plateau of maturity. I'm sure it will be even better in a year or two and should last 5-8 years.
Damn good. Rich, velvety mouthfeel. Purple in color. Deep dark fruit and chocolate on the palate, with a lengthy spicy finish. We popped and poured, but this could have used a little air. Still quite tannic, with lots of sediment in the bottle.

Awesome. Drinking beautifully now. Has a few years to go but why wait? Deep and rich with soft tannins (after decanting, which is recommended). Great body and texture. Wonderful bottle.
12/12/2020 - just drank our last one - even better than the last but probably not getting any better and may start getting worse - now’s the time!

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Followed over about two hours.
Dark garnet to almost purple looking in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of soapstone, talc, leather, currant and Kirsch. Flavors of boysenberries, raspberries and plums. Medium acidity, medium to firm tannin, full bodied. Drink now with a little bit of air.

Deep opaque ruby; highly aromatic, licorice, spice, complex but slight heat; palate is full bodied, plenty of pure black fruit, mid palate has medium-plus tannins, still prominent, modern, 14.5% alcohol; short-medium finish. Interesting, but I don’t see this needing more age. 90 The drying tannins on the finish are the most detracting part of this wine. 89

Luxurious wine! Deep ruby with barely any garneting. Unctuous body, high but very ripe tannin, expensive french oak, decadent fruit, some of it now seemingly cooked, malo-milk, chocolate, woodsmoke. Nose of course has the same notes as the palate. Absolutely delicious, very high quality modern spanish wine. But tell me again: why did I cellar it for 8 years before consumption?

Purple red color. PNP, split bottle over 2 hours. Hi toned nose, blackberry, black cherry, smoke, a little blue fruit, fennel, herb, spice. The palate is full bodied, very nice structure and balance, good black and blue fruit profile of blackberry, plum and black cherry, crushed rocks, earth, dusty, nice tannins and finish. This is drinking very well and should continue for at least another five years. 92+ to 93pts.

Decanted for 3 hours. More accessible due to aireation than previous bottles but overall little evolution. The wine is still rough with plenty of tannins, keeps showing a lot of fruit, mint and now a very remarkable minerality, as the biggest change I have seen from previous bottles. I think the wine is much better now, as the minerality gives it a more complex approach. However, I start to have my doubts about longevity as with time in glass the fruit faded and wood took more presence. I would drink up within 5 years . 90-92.

Deep inky colour. Oak has integrated nicely. Held up very well in a half bottle over a couple of days. This has the structure to go on for quite a few years jet. Only downside for me were the slightly drying tannins on the finish.

Wow! This is a great wine! Popped, decanted and poured. Tannins calmed down a bit after and hour or so. This deep dark glass staining wine showed dark berries and spice on the nose; then powerful, extracted dark cherries, plum, mocha, and toasted almonds on the palate. Tannins support a long finish. This is very well balanced! Actually, this wine has a Cali cab profile that I like very much!
Opened, filtered, decanted for 1 hour. Cork completely fell apart but not corked. Tons of sediment. Palate of sweet blackberries, chocolate, mocha, spice and vanilla. Dense but very refreshing. Long finish of black fruits and spices. Velvety tannins. Wonderful. Tasted at our vertical of '04-'09 and it was the winner by all but one person who thought the "07 was better.

This is the last bottle of six of the 2004 and 2005 I have enjoyed over the last 5+ years. All were very enjoyable, powerful, and rich. Decanted this for an hour and enjoyed with grilled fajitas. Full body, very dark, opaque, inky purple. Opens with aromas and flavors of sweet blackberries, toasty vanilla, smoky blueberries, spicy black plum, dark coffee, chocolate, licorice, and some evolving earth tones. Excellent structure, richness, and complexity with tannins that are fairly well integrated. Big, long finish. This wine can easily go another ten or so years. Wish I had more.

seems very very young and still lots of tannin and some oak and came off as somewhat hot and rough after the wonderful mag of 2000 Clos des Papes CNP...will leave the remaining bottles for quite some time or give it a lot of slow ox
This is my second time drinking this wine, the first was 4-5 years ago and it was tight as a knot. Now it's drinking beautifully. Nice mix of old world and new world style -- lots of dark fruit, dense and viscous. I'm glad I have a few bottles left... I expect it will continue to improve over the next few years.

Consistent with previous notes. Drank over two days. Needs to let it breath. Nose with red fruit, smoke, pepper, vanilla. Palate with vanilla and roasted coffee, still has wood and tannins too present. I enjoyed much more in day one. (90-91)
Monthly Tasting Group: Spain and Portugal (Rincon 38, Mpls, MN): Dark purple red color. Decanted for 45 minutes. Drank 1 glass over 1.5hrs. Nose has blackberry, black cherry, floral, tobacco, spices, cedar. The palate is deep and rich, with black and blue fruits, blackberry, plum, black cherry, a bit of licorice, lots of wonderful tobacco, oak, medium grained tannins, long finish. Its been awhile since i had this, and I almost think it was best right after PNP, but either way it was very good. 92+pts.

Dense color, to match the overall concentration of the wine. Deep, dark, peppery nose with a whiff of acetone on end. On the palate there is a pleasant sharpness to this wine; it is slightly tart, with a hot and sweet finish reminiscent of cinnamon candy. Tannins still provide adequate grip, indicating that a few years of additional maturation may bring yet more nuances out of what is already a complex and powerful wine.

A dense and serious wine, with an ambrosial nose of vanilla, brown spices, mocha and meaty blackberry compote. The palate pumps black fruit, but is augmented by chocolate and spice, and finishes with creamy intensity. Fine-grained tannins frame the fruit and add structure.

While many on the WL Forum have been popping their '05's and '06's, I've been holding off till now on the '04 and I'm glad I did. Aromas of leather, smoke, blackberries and oak explode from the glass. The full bodied wine coats your palate with gobs of fresh sweet blackberries covered with dark bittersweet chocolate. The tannins have integrated beautifully with just the right amount of grip to balance the fruit. It's such a delicious wine I even had a glass after dinner. Outstanding.

Decanted 20 min and consumed over 2 hours. Initially shown quite shy on the nose, only traces of vanilla, and remarkable smoky flavors and black pepper. The palate has a very powerful entry that hits you with its tannins and high acidity but becomes a velvet glove, expanding and covering the palate with the - a bit aggressive - tannins and a very strong woody-dryness sensation, to finish with a medium-long aftertaste of red fresh fruit. Given air and time in decanter, this wine grows exponentially: now we have the red fruit liqueur aromas that characterizes this wine and a much more smooth roasted coffee. After almost two hours the nose explodes with powerful balsamics like mint. Meanwhile, palate becomes more friendly, enjoyable, more velvety yet powerful with a elegant creaminess feeling. Much better bottle than a year ago. It seems to have the tools to keep improving and lasting a few more years. Great QPR. 91-92

Massive wine that still needs time to integrate; nose and palate are dominated by dill pickle american oak; after a couple of days, the oak begins to subside and the deep, dark fruit lurking beneath comes to the fore. Plenty of fruit here, but plenty of wood too. Will be interesting to see if it ever integrates. Check in again in 3 or 4 years.

NY/NJ Offline at Fonda Del Sol 6.15.11 (Fonda Del Sol, NYC): Notes of spicy oak, blue fruit, coffee and caramel on the nose. Similar notes on the palate. A big wine with medium high acid, high tannins and a medium long to long finish. Give it some time and it begins to open up in the glass. Drinking well right now.

2011 - Cata #7 (Can Vilallonga): Medium-high cherry color. Abundant dense legs that stain the glass. The nose is dominated by aromas of fruit liqueur, spices. Spanish Tasting (Twin Cities): Second time tasting this wine and it is great. Raspberry, wood, spice and floral notes dominate the nose and palate. A few times we agreed it might be slightly corked but it was really the wood quality of the wine. This should age nicely for a decade or more. Very well made.

Spanish Tasting at John's (Minneapolis): Purple color. 2 hour decant. Nose is floral with lavendar notes, herbs, blackberry, black cherry, mineral, cedar, spice. The palate is deeply concentrated with layers of fruit, spice, leather, oak. tannins are prominent but not aggressive. long finish. Second time with this wine, both were outstanding. The bottle had an odd quality initially on the nose before decanting and aerating. It was gone after about 30 minutes. This wine is still quite young and requires at least 2-3 hours of decant time in my opinion. My and group WOTN, 94pts

On Pnp, this guy is still a tannic beast. Initial nose is very smokey, woody, and oaky.
Color is deep ruby, turning slightly translucent at the rim, not even the slightest hint of any bricking.
The tannins just blow away most anything on the palate, but some good, deep blue black fruit fights it's way to the fore despite the tannin's best efforts. The is also a LOT of spice and bitterness, presumably from a high alc content - i'd guess ths one at high 14% alcohol, if not breaking 15%. (a quick check, label reads 14.5, but i think it actually clocks in higher.
After an hour's air, the nose has left the smoke in the background and taken on a strong mentholyptus air. Just plan delicious nose. A lot of the oak has backed off, and some fruit comes forward on the nose joining the ever evolving men's club oak scents. On the palate, the tannins have backed off, but still lurk on the ropes, hitting you when you least expect it. But now it is the acid that has come out swinging, bringing ten fruit forward in a tart, mouthwatering blue fruit.
At two hours in, the nose has subdued into a more mapley sweet oak with some roast nuts, and the eucalyptus pokes it's head in too.
The heat has burned off almost entirely, a hint in the finish. But now the acid is in balance, some delicious sweet fruits come to the fore like never before, and the tannins hover in the background before coming in for a one two punch in the finish with the alcohol - a stiff, warm, deliciously bittersweet and long end to every sip.
This is just a great study in a wine, simply because of the journey it takes over the time in the decanter.
This has a good 10++ years to continue to develop in bottle, but to the eager, it is a treat now too.

Drank over 2 days, Opened for 30 minutes each time.
Very dark crimson color with some brownish tones and garnet rim. On day 1 it's a bit shy on nose, with mature black fruit and some chocolate and liquorized fruit after giving some air. On palate it's a bit dry, mid-full body with present tannins. On day 2 shows a preview of what this wine is about, the nose opens up way more with blackberries, chocolate and black pepper, quite powerful nose but not there yet. Palate it's similar on day 2, with more presence of fruit than wood.
Overall this 2004 is not there yet and certainly needs more time in cellar. It's good but can be better. I would wait 2 years for next try. (on comparision 2002 - a lower vintage - was way expressive a few months back).

Do you like Spanish wine? You will if you don't already. Tempranillo, Garnache, and some Cabernet Sauvignon are but a few of the great choices. This is the first high quality Toro I've had and I must say, I'm very impressed.
Toro DO (Denominacion de Origen) wines are made mostly of a regional grape called Tinta de Toro. My first impression tells me this is similar to Italian Nebbiolo but with a higher smoothness and lighter tannin structure. Wine Enthusiast says it best - "... a high-speed train with agile fruit and bracing acidity.."
Big fruit late in the taste. Extreme smoothness in the middle with a mysterious nose that doesn't really give you any clues as to what's ahead. This changed dramatically with time in the glass. I would not pour more until you've finished all in the glass first. Watch it change and you will be rewarded. Take your time with this one.
Pair with lightly seasoned red meats or a nice big aged cheese. Let this be the star of the show and you will get a big performance.
Very refined, this 2004 is a 92 point Parker and 95 point Wine Enthusiast. I agree that this is a quite nice offering, probably best opened in the next two years.
T-Scale - 92.

Huge of nose of dark fruit, caramel creaminess, and toasty oak that jumps out of the glass. On the palate, a mouthfull of wine with rich fruit flavors, intense gripping tannins, and lasting creamy oak finish. A previous taster said it best. This wine is a monster. Big, big, big, tannins. Decanted for 4 hours. It is finally starting to mellow just a bit. That being said, this wine is delicious. At this point, I do find it a tad bitter but again, the tannins are huge. Medium to full bodied with hints of vanilla, oak (not over the top) and good fruit. As I write this, I can still feel the tannins. Leave this one alone for a few years. It has the structure for a truly great wine.

Quite ripe, mildly raisiny fruit but nothing too offensive. Lots of sweet vanillin oak. Underneath that, masses of spicy, leathery fruit, scorched earth, dust, rainwater. Quite concentrated but not viscous, gritty or bitter. Lots of tannin. This needs 4+ years to settle down but I predict it will be a pretty fine, though still big and ripe, drink.

When first opened there was a lot of oak on the nose. However as time passed creamy bluberries and vanilla became evident. Felt creamy and velvety on the palate, very well balanced. Nice wine that went great with the leg of lamb. However it has so much power and good structure that it definitely needs time to develop. After 2 hours in the decanter it was still opening up. Should buy another bottle to try a few years from now.

Great QPR. 91-92
