Dark purple color. Dark fruits - bluberry, blackberry, black cherry with touch of oak (nice, not overdone) and dark chocolate on the nose. On palate, similar flavor profile with medium+body, medium acids/tannins and long finish. I really enjoyed.
Will buy more of this. Pretty big for a "Mencia" but well structured. 91-92

From the wine list at ABC Cocina (NYC). Dark fruited, nose is a bit too the jammy side but luckily the palate is not. Dark fruits with quite a bit of earthy bramble and dusty tannins here. Finish is on the short side. This is a good drinkable wine but does not make me want to revisit.

Forest, rocks, and blackberries on the nose, you can practically smell the acid. Dark complected fruit, rocks and underbrush on the palate. Nicely structured with plenty of acid and medium to fine grained tannins. This comes across as more structured and serious than the Beberide "M" while still having plenty of delicious fruit and increased complexity. Drink now and Hold for years.
I've always felt that this wine shared more in common with saumur champigny than it does with burgundy. Granted it doesn't have the pyrazines but it reminds me of that wet concrete after a rainstorm in the hot summer.

Fantastic wine, no doubt. Comes across as a structured Pinot Noir crossed with a Beaujolais Cru. The nose just gains and gains, offering red berries, red licorice, fresh roses, and pastille aromas. It's tight but accessible, a touch brooding, with a tannic backbone, tremendous polish and focus, and succulent mixed berry fruit and hibiscus tea flavors. Closes the deal with exotic Asian spice on the savory finish.
note: I bought a bottle, but it was not as good as at the tasting, but I am just giving the impression as I wrote it down at the time here (that is, before I opened an entire bottle at my home, some time later).

Mencia, you say the name of this grape with a lisp. I recently had another Mencia wine that I did not enjoy and I was interested to see how I would view this bottle which I have previously enjoyed.
Much more enjoyable, ripe fruit is the difference I think. Black/purple color with ample fruit and solidly bitter tannins. Acidity to match. A very good effort, this is a semi-obscure grape produced in an acceptable/enjoyable style.

The first sniff is not very pleasant but that calms down quickly and you get a lot of oak, pepper, violet and dark fruit. First I thought of returning the bottle, but now I like it. Really matched the pasta with bacon, broccoli, onion and parmesan. 86, better with the food.
Have another bottle. Saving that for a few years.
