Pale lemon colour still with flecks of green. The nose showed stonefruit, fresh lemon and lots of vanilla at first with cinnamon and hazelnut emerging after a few minutes. Palate matches the nose, though is more citric with a little bitter grapefruit pith. Real mineral zing here. I wasn't tasting any butteryness but thought there would have been some malo in a Marg River flagship, but apparently not! No rush here at all, could wait 5yrs to try the next bottle but I'll probably have one sooner than that 😄

Robert's Holiday Dinner at Margaux's Table (Margaux's Table, White Bear Lake, MN): Very pale green color. Drank a glass over an hour plus. The nose has stone fruit, pear, tons of stony minerality. The palate also shows the stone mineral notes, stone fruits, lemon-lime, vanilla, creamy, oak witha long citrus-lime finish. This showed more than a bottle a year ago and it was more prominent over the hour.
Robert's Holiday Party (Margaux's): This needs more bottle age....drinking well now, but will be better with a couple more years of age on it. Lots of pear, apple and some citrus, with notes of stone fruit, spice and wet stone. Good, but will be much better later. 93 now with possibly 2 additional points down the road. Can drink now, but I would recommend holding.

Absolutely humming along under screwcap. Intense white peach fruit with some green melon and something mildly exotic. There's plenty of spice too. It is rich, powerful and layered. Has great volume and presence without excess weight. It finishes with authority and drives on. Australia's Batard.

One of the most impressive chardonnay wines outside old World. After one hour in Decanter fresh, with nice acidity, power and length. Orange, lemon, melon, fantastic hidden wood. A great wine.

Wow what can I say. Peak wine at its first stage of life. Comes into its own after 5 years and improves for another 10 to 20. Full of great old school Chardonnay flavours. Oak, melon, yellow peach, light honeysuckle and stone fruit sweetness.

Luis rides again (without falling off!) (Tilia): This was my favorite Chardonnay (has never disappointed). This is still drinking young, but also still pretty darn tasty! Will this get better? Undoubtedly! The nose shows plenty of citrus (mostly lime) with some sea shell, straw and hints of honeysuckle. Palate showed lime zest, green apple, pear, honeydew along with some steely notes, some oyster and shades of honeycomb with plenty of acidity. This should integrate even better, show rounder fruit, and be less acidic with more time in the bottle. I would hold for another year or two, but it is so good now! Easy 93 for me right now, but maybe a 93+ to 94 in another year or so!

Luis Returns! (Tilia, Mpls): Light gold color. Drank a glass over 90 minutes. Taut and intense is how I would describe this wine. The nose is filled with brine and oyster shell, lemon-lime sweet tart nose, white flowers and good lift. The palate emerges with intensity, tangy and tart, lime, some lemon, steely, brine, good acid, modest oak notes and medium full bodied. Nothing tropical here. Curious to see where this goes. 92+ to 93pts.

14% abv but very soft and smooth feeling. Start with lemon and tropical fruits, then stacking up white flower, mineral, and nuts. Very pure. This is an orthodox style not same to Burgundy or California.

First encounter with the famous Art Series - truly memorable. Deep straw-yellow, emerging golden, green reflections in the glass. Nose excels - lemon, grape, bag of mixed nuts, oak and a truckload of tropical fruits - melon, peach, pineapple, mango. Palate is superb - what a mouthfeel. Rich, round, refined, sleeker than expected from nose, fruit-driven with oak and vanilla backbone, m+ acidity, powerful throughout, elegance and intense, lingering citrus-dry and creamy finish. Looking forward to revisit soon.

Pale gold color. PNP, drank a couple glasses over 90 minutes. Well this is bright, crisp and fresh lemon and citrus with citrus zest and ocean breezes, lemongrass, oak spices. The palate is medium bodied, lean, saline, savory with tons of minerality and acid. This has a punch of acidty and lots of tart citrus. I think this is still improving. 92+ to 93pts.

My first bottle of a case and it’s been maybe 8 years since I’ve had this wine. This was my go to splurge Chardonnay when I lived in Hong Kong and Shanghai. Color is pale green straw. On the nose: rich but subtle citrus, apple and pear, a bit of oak and minerals. On the palate: Wow this is good. Tart Apple, ripe pear, lemon drops, grapefruit and great minerality and acidity. Flavor is broad and long. Mouthfeel has good weight. World class wine. I am loving the fact I have a case to enjoy over the years. Best white I’ve tasted in a while. Very good value for money.

Transparent straw. Strong aromas of paint thinner. Medium bodied with medium-low acidity and a palate dominated by alcohol, which crushed any fruit (there was a hint of pears I could detected underneath the heat). Not quite as hot, but similar to drinking white whiskey. Not sure if this was a bad bottle, or just not my thing.

Doesn’t really do it for me, as much as I want it to! Buttery nose, maybe some burnt notes too. Lacking fruit now but more butter but mid palate is flat. Finish lingers but not what I want I was hoping to sip and savour on my 50th.
Enjoying a Fall Day (Home): Pale green gold color. The nose has cedarbox, oak, lemon, patisserie, fint, and red apple. The palate shows lemon, peach, oak, tart lemon, young, flint. Still rather young and needs to shed some oak still. Give it at least a year and maybe two.
A young, pale and energetic Leeuwin. Right now this all about grace and elegance. Citrus fruits are bright but sort of in the background. Captivating now, the best likely to come.

A rare case for me. I recognize the high quality of the juice, but did not enjoy the wine. Hard to put a finger on it, but it was difficult to want to take successive sips. Very coiled, dense and tight and really hard to get a sense of the flavors and personality. Disclaimer - I was informed that this wine does take some time to unfurl and show its true colors, many times, years, so in this case it was probably bad timing.

I'm always a huge fan of Leeuwin, particularly the Art Series Chard. Having recently taasted the '14 and '16, the '15 felt a little hot on the palate. Indeed, it's 14% alcohol, versus 13.5 for the other two. Still one of my favorite chardonnays.

A lovely bottle of Art Series Chardonnay with a clear pale green gold colour, this wine has a complete nose of white freshly cut pear, white peach with touches of apple, grapefruit and nougat. This is a classic bottle of Leeuwin Art Series Chardonnay that is perhaps in an in-between phase at 4 years. The colour is classic pale green gold and the nose has the lovely melange of pear flavours with dried pear perhaps the most prominent and touches of white nectarine and grapefruit and yuzu, cashew and stone. The palate is just a little disjointed with a separation between the dense and layered fruit and the oak derived elements that seem to need time to meld completely. A quibble perhaps but in this famous line something to note and revisit.

Atkin Chardonnay Comparative tasting (Lismore): (Tasted Blind): Somewhat woody on the nose with a dry sauna wood that morphs to a wet spice, soaked nut and savoury edge. There is a Burgundian angle to the wine with funky attributes and savoury overlays. Still, as the wine unfolds, a persistent workshop wood does annoy slightly, reminding me of Francois Frere barrels. The palate has a fair flush of bracing acidity but seems light on the mid-palate. Linear in shape, some agreeable flavours of baked apples, lemon and grapefruit rind, tidal pool/sea breeze and hazelnut. The wine relies heavily on a cool acidic bite, reminding me of those cool, ice-like Margaret River styles. Certainly very precise and pure fruited, the wine has a long, persistent finish that, despite the protruding oak, is rather good.

From Star Of Greece restaurant wine list, Adelaide. Had tasted the 1999 vintage earlier in the same day, which puts it all in perspective. 2015 vintage: Served chilled and straight out of the bottle it was balanced and bright but extremely closed. Even after 1-2 hours in the glass it didn’t open up much. For my tastes the peak drinking window will be 2022-2027 and will probably be worthy of 95-98 points.

Tight right now, holding onto its lemony-acids. ALso shows the slightly lower alcohol being tighter and more mineral than vintages at 14.5%. that soft note of ripe pear that I strongly identify with Arty Chardy comes in after about three hours open. To hold.

Beautiful nose of bright tropical fruits, white peach, green apple, nougat.
The palate is luscious with the ripe stonefruit complemented by the nougat and hazelnut, showing how well these guys can integrate 100% new oak without overpowering it all and ruining the fruit.
It feels a little restrained compared to previous vintages, but I really like that, the fruit has been given more of a front stage and the concentration is more laid back giving it a more refreshing feel than previous vintages.
Fantastic vintage for this wine which should drink beautifully for many more years.

Exceptionally balanced and easy drinking drop with surprisingly bright acidity for a warm climate chardonnay and magnificently integrated oaky notes that never becoming overbearing despite how prominent they are on the nose. Silky smooth and ridiculously long on the palate with a good dose of green apple, peach and tropical fruit notes.

100% new French oak for 11 months. Lime butter, custard apple, sweet citrus and biscuit notes. Powerful and with length – white stone fruits, lime butter and white flowers. Really enjoyed this wine, but personally preferred the Flametree SRS Chardonnay – which was about ½ the price.

Fine Wines SG - “Judgement of Paris” Chardonnay Dinner (Manzoku Japanese Restaurant): Light bodied, and whilst having ripe pineapple and mango, it also has the cool minty scent. Adding in a touch of brine and cloves, makes it an enjoyable Chardy

To hold.

Perth/ Margaret River Trip; 1/17/2019-1/20/2019 (Perth/ Margaret River): Powerful nose, with flint, leaves, apricot, and also seen in the palate but to a lesser extent. Great finish though. Definitely needs more time

With a little bit of smokey spice which comes across as seductive to me. WHich is probably just me. Drive, polished, there's a back palate.
