  • My previous note still stands. Natural cork. This is a pretty good Bordeaux, not amazing. Decent balance, silky tannins are nearly integrated, good fruit, long mineral and tobacco finish. I would say that this is in its drinking window.
I'm sure it could go longer, it still tastes like a young bordeaux, I'm just not sure if I'll like it more however. 1.5 years on since the last time I tried it and I wasn't wowed. It improved in the glass.

  • Quite Pauillac in character with classic notes of ripe black fruits, graphite minerals and a hint of roasted nuts. Drinking well already with some air and the texture is smooth and even creamy. The finish shows a nice licorice flavor with some tannins still to resolve and they are a bit astringent to me. A nice Bordeaux and a bit unfair to compare it to the best of the commune.

  • Intense minerality with blackberries, clove and black pepper on the nose. Palate is penetrating with black fruits, earthy spices and dried herbs on a medium-bodied mid-palate. Transition to a deep and clean finish is uneven. Need some breathing for the elements to open up. Let this age for another 2-3 years for better harmonisation.

  • God balanse, typisk rød Bordeaux, fortsatt litt ung og kantete. Bør ha 3-5 flere år i kjelleren

  • Deep garnet. Nose was minimal even after 3 hours after open. Taste was more typical, graphite, tobacco. Tannins clearly present. Closed?

  • Deep ruby colour. Pronounced and developing nose with blackcurrant, blackberry, green bell pepper, black pepper, licorice, cloves, leather and tobacco. Pronounced taste of blackcurrant, blackberry, green bell pepper, black pepper, licorice, cloves, leather and tobacco. Long and dry finish. High acidity. Medium tannins. Medium body. A very good Pauillac. Drink now or over the next ten years. Goes well with beef or lamb.

  • Noticed that Englishmansclaret had posted about this wine while mine was decanting. A fortunate coincidence. Can’t disagree with his apt description. Cassis, leather, graphite, cigar box, chocolate covered cherry.

  • The 2016 Pedescalux is one of life’s easy joys - a wine which is just delightful to drink now, yet for all of its accessibility it offers Pauillac classicism too. There’s loads of cassis, pencil, mineral, and cedar. Yes, it’s not particularly deeply pitched - but the flavors are right and the balance is terrific. Drinking well now, yet with a good life ahead.

  • Decanted for two hours prior to a tasting with four other wines. Clear deep purple in color; cedar, tobacco and dark fruit on the nose; tannin forward on a long finish. This will be drinking better and better over the next 10-15 years.

  • A potpourri of Brett, sweet floral scents and cologne alcohol, yikes. Brett lingers, alcohol dissipates, perfume remains. The extraordinary complexity of this 2016 explains the varied tasting notes, often contrasting, often accurate. Mink silky entry, delicately concentrated violet fruit, flint edge engrained but nearly in hiding, brisk but subdued natural acid kissing the tongue. "More" begs your taste buds.

A wine to sip, let your mouth unwrap - no need for food- say grace, sing hymns, savoring life by the glass, but heed Proverbs 23 :31

"Do not gaze at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly"

  • Nice nose with cassis, cigarbox and exiting violets. Harmonious and precise with sweet cassis, tobacco and graphite. Nice concentration and a pretty long finish. Very Pauillac and many things to like. Doesnt develop much on day 2, besides more graphite.

  • Similar to prior bottle, this checks many boxes! Delicious blackberry and plum flavors up front - with or without food, no oakiness, tannins present but smooth, and a sense of concentration and grip that indicate this has many years left of life.

  • Lighter style for pauillac. Good

1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comment

  • Decanted for several hours. On the nose, classic Pauillac aromas of cassis and cigar box, along with some plums and tobacco. Pretty classic on the palate too, with silky blackcurrant and blackberry, joined by some dark raspberry in the middle section and a little liquorice on the finish. Very foursquare, sleek and with just a little asperity on the finish, which will disappear in time. Good grip, but not too much - good potential. Some dislike the term, but "linear" here is very suitable.

I disagree that it's made in a "modern" style, if that is supposed to mean gloopy and oaky, for me this is made in a classic style improved by modern methods. I didn't notice any excessive oak and I admired the restrained style and reasonable ABV level (13°). If anything, it is a little too restrained - the fruit is a little too subtle, at this stage. It could do with more fruit, more velvet, more silk.

So a good wine, but not a great one, unless it greatly improves in bottle.

Certainly one of the best Pedesclaux that I've tried - which is not hard - a good effort which confirms its place among similar wines (GPD, Batailley, Lynch-M) but at the same time, which demonstrates quite clearly that any ambition to challenge the top Pauillacs seems like wishful thinking.

  • We rate this lower than the excellent 2015 and 2018 showings of Pedesclaux, which are two of our favorite recent tastings.

Nose is more subdued than the 2018: not necessarily closed, but subdued. Palate has a very light mouthfeel, almost watery, a bit astringent and mouth drying. Pencil shavings, cherry.

  • Decent QPR. Really oaky on opening, which resolved after being open an hour or so. Basic Cabernet qualities that would go well with food. Despite 13% alcohol (a big plus), not something to have on its own.

  • Modern style Bordeaux and an interesting choice to compare it as lesser one to a 1989 Lynch Bages. Deep Garnet with purple hues. I would say this is more California style not Bordeaux. Very fruity nose. Medium-bodied, refreshing acidity, vibrant. Tannins needs 2-3 more years to resolve. No complexity, no depth, it stayed almost the same for 4 hours. It is a good wine to drink, nothing special.

  • Concur with previous note. This is excellent and i particularly like the acidity lifting this wine.

  • Deep garnet. Nose was all young notes of plums, tobacco. Taste was young, tannins. Give 10 years

  • deep purple colored / nose: intense, plums, blackberries, dark cherries, dark chocolate, cedar wood / palate: medium+ acidity, medium+ tannins, medium+ bodied, ripe cherries, licorice, little vanilla / glass I used: Zalto Bordeaux / overall: A great Bordeaux which is still very juvenile. I have decanted it for two hours. I will wait at least two more years before opening the next bottle. 9/10 (special plus for intensity an complexity)

  • 92/93. Trade tasting. This estate is much improved. Visited the Chateau in 2015. Has fragrant aromas of cedary plums, gravel, iron, blackberries, raspberries and cassis. Its medium bodied silky, elegant, nicely oaked linear yet deep blue, black and red fruits palate ends long, fresh and tapering with good tannin. 13%. This is really good and drinkable. Lay down 10-20 years+. Needs 4-5 hrs aeration. At the provider it is 60 Euros which is steep. Another has it at 45 Euros and that is better value for a Bordeaux Grand Cru.

  • Very nice all around. From the nose (like Peter Michael Les Pavots?) to the medium bodied wine of silky blackberry and cassis. Definitely some tannic bite (and some citrusy tartness) on the finish but the tannins aren't harsh. A wine that’s good in its own and with food. 2016 is my first experience with Pedesclaux and it’s definitely a positive one. Glad I have 3 or 4 more bottles.

  • This is very good. Dark ruby/violet opaque color. Nose is Cabernet to me with cassis and dark fruit and a bit of wood. Lovely. Concentrated, juicy dark fruit with a good bit of acidity. Tannins are nicely integrated for such young wine. Long and powerful finish. Good now and great in a few years.

  • Much too young of course, but my curiosity couldn't help it, very concentrated, likely to develop very nicely over 10 years

  • P&P bei zunächst 15°, langsam sich erwärmend auf 18°
    Farbe: dunkles Purpurgranat, leicht durchscheinend

  • A little light for our taste but really nice for the price from Costco.

  • A bit lively at this point, not surprisingly. Nose is dominated by black fruits with hints of Pauillac graphite. The blackberry and cassis are supported by a touch of coffee. Tannins are soft, even at this point. Really some potential here as the acidity softens

  • Tried as part of a tasting. Fantastic - smooth and fruity, but balanced. Paired well with a grilled ribeye.

  • One of the more obscure Classified Growths deserves a lot more attention because this is a very good wine. Good levels of concentration allow you a rich bite of juicy, dark red fruits in every sniff and sip. The fruit has lift and crunch. The tannins are soft and firm and the finish tastes as good as it feels. There is length, structure, energy, and the ability to age and evolve for at least 2-3 decades.

  • (GG Wine Tasting, 1 Glass) - Knew very little about this producer but this was a pleasant surprise. Vanilla profile, with a smooth, elegant mouthfeel. My friends pick of the tasting.

  • Dark and inky, with some earth and toast. Good black fruits and spices. The texture is fantastic. There is a little nobility here for sure. I thought I was perceiving just a touch of brett, but may be the oak. The tannins are lurking. Would have to revisit. This is quite slick and a property to watch. Give this wine some time.

  • Langtons Chateaux of Bordeaux (Luna Park, Milsons Point): Hmm, smells annoyingly disjointed, a little blackcurrant, cedar, plum, sweet spice but all separate and doing their own dance. More of the same on the palate with the same level of disjointedness...Perhaps time will help.

  • We didn't want to taste this one so soon after the last tasting but, ... we're taking the day off tomorrow, we have a couple of nice steaks, and this was such a nice wine for the price that we went for it. Gale smiles and just says,"mmm ... that's good." She never needs to use a lot of words. Her soft smile and the way her eyes close slightly, ... I know what that look means. And I know this is going to be a very nice evening. Black fruit, subtle tobacco scent, dark garnet color, long, slow moving legs, not completely integrated but has some potential. Seems to be a bit closed at the moment but still a very nice wine. The tobacco/cigar scent seems stronger as the wine is in the glass longer. Based on the professional reviews I keep looking for the lead pencil/graphite nose but am not detecting it tonight. I recall the very first time that scent hit me and how amazed I was: the 1982 Maucaillou that I believe we tasted in 1986 (?) $10 from the old "Sam's" on North Avenue in Chicago right around the corner from the old, classic Golden Ox restaurant on N. Clybourn, which sadly has closed since then. We will enjoy our remaining 2016 Pedesclaux over the next 10 years and hope the 2018 vintage turns out as good if not better.

  • From Coravin. slightly savoury, wild blackcurrant, a little crushed rock and plum, very slight cedar, mint, tobacco leaf. In the mouth it's a little hard and out of whack. Wild black fruits, herbaceous notes and chewy drying tannins. Time will help here.

  • From the start the nose was just so inviting. Clean, fresh, distinct. Medium body, smooth, drinkable now but feels built for some age. Blackcurrant, some of that lead pencil that I love in the nose, and maybe some tobacco. It did not have the staying power, the stuffing, nor the silkiness and elegance of the Grand Puy Lacoste we had the previous evening. But, for half the price, a very good wine to have.

  • Hearts Delight 2016 Bordeaux Tasting (Hay Adams - Washington, DC): Bold and juicy cassis fruit, fleshy, dark and spicy. Juicy fruit, grippy tannins, vibrant acidity, there's some good tobacco, graphite and scorched earth, significant oak, too. Needs some time to come together, it seems a bit tightly-wound and a bit muted at this point.

  • Expressive fruit, quite ripe and a little blunt on the nose, notes of oak. On the palate polished and again generous with good depth and decent length. A little simple straight after tasting 2016 Haut Bailly, but at less than half the price probably better value. Very well made. 91-92+

  • Still considered the new kid on the block in Pauillac, this wine was made from blending 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc, reaching 13.3% alcohol. Richly colored, the wine shows off its ready, saucy, crunchy cassis, tobacco, cigar box and lead pencil aromas with ease, together with a duvet of tannins, serious concentration, lift and length. As more of the vineyard becomes planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, this will keep getting better and better.

  • Black and violet fruit, jumpy on the nose. Spicy, taught, energetic, has cabs structure.

When they arrive they immediately remove six hectares out of merlot because it was planted on Cabernet soil. The haut de pedesclaux is not young vineyards, it's vineyards that are all within Paulliac, but for whatever French governmental reasons these vineyards cannot be stuck into the paulliac label.

There is room to grow for them they say, they are a hidden gem, and I would agree with that.

The precision of the tannins, the balance, freshness and the strength of paulliac. Very complete, and it's just a baby I am being told and I would say that is the case.

On the haut - blind it could be a saint julien.

50% new oak. On the main wine. Fleur is 45% and four months shorter.
