Blackish ruby color very young and less open than the 2015 very tight. Decanted and drank over two hours. Nose of perfumed cassis, sweet tobacco and dark berries. Medium to full bodied, solid structure and built for the long haul finishes long, dusty and tannic. Revisit in 5 years.

No notes taken. I only got a tiny sip of this, so this is in no way a comprehensive review but as it showed excellent, I still wanted to record it. This is another proof that the 2016 is a fantastic vintage, probably the best one in decades. What is true for the vintage, is true for this wine: A good level of complexity, high precision and purity, the right level of ripeness, high freshness and luxurious tannins, and of course the most beautiful balance. While some other 2016 might have closed down, the Lascombes, as is often true with Margaux wines, is open for business from an early age on. Easily 93+ pts.
Decanting: Not decanted, no extensive decanting needed.

Aromatic, big nose, slightly inky, fresh, blue and black berries, slightly cedary, nascently floral. Obviously still with oak to integrate which will take some time but it's balanced nicely and I think ultimately this will come good.

Round, fleshy, ripe and with a strong espresso and smoke character to the ripe, dense, dark fruits, give this concentrated, lush round time in the cellar for everything to come together. Perhaps 10 years or more will be about right.

Great Bordeaux 2016 Tasting: Drawing bouquet of riped plums and blackcurrants. Tasted black fruits, black cherries, riped plums, creme. Slightly austere. Not bad but I would give this at least 3 more years.

Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux 2016 Vintage Tasting (Las Vegas, NV): The 2016 Lascombes is a heavily-extracted, opaque crimson bruiser that is laden with blackberry, boysenberry, dark chocolate and licorice on both the nose and palate. Full-bodied, fresh, seamlessly alcoholic and with excellent purity of fruit, it wraps its flavors with abundant sweet tannins, has impressive mid-palate density and concludes with a lengthy finish that carries some tannic grip. Give this outstanding wine several years in the cellar. It has a very bright future and may merit a higher score once all of the components have melded. Drink 2026-2046.
UNION DES GRANDS CRUS DE BORDEAUX 2016 VINTAGE SAN FRANCISCO. (Metreon, San Francisco, Ca.): UNION DES GRANDS CRUS DE BORDEAUX 2016 VINTAGE SAN FRANCISCO. Nose of barnyard, black berry, boysenberry, and roasted coffee, same on the palate, medium/big body, tasty, rich fruit, simple, medium amount of soft tannins, hints of wood on the mid palate, medium finish, started strong and finished weak.

This was a stunner 2016 and clearly the best of the Margaux wines for me. In 2016, they went all in to produce a Merlot dominated wine that is masculine and pungent (contrary to the pink capsule) with a throwing bouquet of espresso, earth, and violets on the back end. Reminded me of a dense Pape Clement when they make a fat wine. This is clearly flamboyant now, and if time treats it good, it has nowhere but up from here. For its QPR, it deserves another 2 to 3 points. Don't be shy to DRINK but it can HOLD

UGC 2019 Los Angeles (Jeremy Hotel, West Hollywood): A little more Margaux in style; w/ more perfumed nose, showing sandalwood and more red fruit and some dark earthiness; the oak seems pretty well-integrated, but it's definitely there. On the palate, clean and good acid with soft tannin. This was enjoyable.

Château Lascombes, Margaux, 2016: The second kosher run of this 2nd cru Margaux. The 2015 is a little too "fat", parkerized for me although I have confidence it will come around beautifully. The 2016 is a different animal. I tasted it at 3 different stages: upon opening the bottle, then after about 5 hours of decanting and then after 50 hours of decanting. Extremely tight at first, it really opened up nicely after a couple of days... Dark, almost impenetrable inky purple in color. The nose reveals notes of wood smoke, cloves, blackberries, cassis, raspberries and cigars. Full-bodied, concentrated and dense but without ever feeling fat nor overly extracted. On the palate, layers of flavors unfold with juicy blackberries, cassis and raspberries at the front, followed by roasted herbs, nutmeg, cloves, graphite, roasted hazelnuts, medium-plus acidity with powerful, firm, searing tannins coating the mouth, as well as notes of luxrurious Cuban cigar on an elegant and seemingly endless finish. This is quite impressive, with a muscular structure that might take this wine over the 30 years mark. 14% Abv. Drink 2028-2046, possibly longer. 95+

The Grand Tour - day three (Bordeaux): Closed. Lots of agitation and it begins to show concentrated blackcurrant, violets, sweet spice, ripe plums, sweet tobacco, cedar…it smells exceedingly young. In the mouth it's juicy with big tannic grip, a cornucopia of black hued fruit persists. The wine is powerful and long.

With a good depth of color, the black and deep red fruits are aided by smoke, licorice and fresh brewed espresso. Fleshy and lush, the finish shows a lot of toasty oak, that masks the fruit to some degree. The wine was made from a blend of 50% Merlot, 47% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot.
