Decanted for almost two hours. Aromas of blackberry, currant, black cherry, iron and mesquite. Flavors of cherry, iron, mineral and cranberry. Ends with a 20+ second finish with iron notes. Smooth tannins and lots of cab franc character.

Have you ever made a mistake that turned out well? I opened this by mistake and glad I did. I meant to open the 2018 but here we are with the still delicious 2016. Love this wine. Nose bursts from the glass with black and red fruit. Even after 48 hours open it is still beautifully aromatic. Dark brooding fruit, ripe acidity and a luscious yet delicate finish. Lovely with both red meat and chocolate maybe thanks to the 15% cab franc? Just a wonderful St. Emilion with the merlot supplying cherry and raspberry fruit and the cab franc additional structure. You can wait 5 years before it fully matures but if you decant and pour back and forth a few times you can enjoy today.

Color is deep red with slight bricking on the rim. Some sediment in the bottle. Nose has oak spice, dark chocolate and some earthy aromas. The palate is muscular, full bodied and well oaked with aromas of leather, spices, dark berries and dark chocolate. Wine manages to stay balanced despite being quite powerful.

Beautiful cork with zero run, in my cellar since issue. My favorite St Emilion for quality and value, never disappoints. The mostly merlot fruit supplies wonderful dark fruit and cassis fragrant notes and the palate is rich and complex. The oaky tannins are evident but well integrated with the fruit which to me is mostly blackberry but with some faint red plum notes. Love it and especially tasty after 24 hours open and decanted. Lovely wine now and has much more and development in bottle in its future.

Dark garnet in color. Full, fragrant & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, blackberries & cassis with overtones of earthy/dusty/gravel & floral notes, spices, tobacco, cocoa, herbs & a hint of cedar in the background. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, plush, ripe fruit flavors of sweet cherries, mulberries & dark cassis with spices, herbs, minerals, cocoa & a hint of oak/vanilla. Long lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present but has the fruit & structure to develop further with additional aging at which time, it may merit a higher score (93+).

Tonight a favorite from the right bank, Chateau Grand Mayne 2016. Wonderful aroma from Merlot, dark plump blackberries, available with dry fine tannins. A wonderful wine that will be even better in 3 - 5 years. Drink or hold.

The 2016 Grand Mayne is a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc which were picked from October the 10th to October the 25th. It was matured in 60% new oak for 18 months. I gave it two hours' decant. The fresh nose expresses gourmet scents of blackberries and crushed raspberries associated with a discreet floral touch as well as powerful vanilla and cedar. The empty glass reveals a dash of balsamic and some delicately truffled notes. The palate is medium to full-bodied with wonderful velvety tannins. I'm impressed by the perfect balance between concentration, freshness and purity of the fruit. It's a beautiful work with plenty of fleshy blackberries and strawberries, pencil lead and spice. It finishes very very long, almost endless, on captivating and elegant notes of tobacco, vanilla and earth. Focused and so harmonious: such a brilliant wine from the right bank! Still under the influence of oak, it's going to need a long time of bottle age. I'm already looking forward to revisit it in 2030. [Photo on Instagram]

Enjoyed. Modern styled, dark fruit, earthy notes, tobacco, tar, ash. Tannins significant but fine. Will last a long time. Opened too early but I needed something that would go with dinner and last a few days in the fridge,

Is this a tiny bit corked, or is it just quite oaky on the nose? Sweet vanilla, plummy fruit, dark meat verging on graphite, very perfumed and spicy. Enjoyable structure and potential.

Had to try Grand Mayne 2016 from Saint-Émilion. What a fruit, classic Merlot dominated wine from the right bank. After 3 hours in a carafe, dark fruit, wonderful tannins, cigar box, pencil, this will be incredibly good in at least 5 years. So glad I bought myself more bottles of this wine. You who can, buy from this vintage.

Quite youthful as you would expect, still it is difficult not to be impressed by the concentration, ripeness, elegance, freshness and energy here. Parked on the corner of elegance, freshness and opulence, the fruit shows good purity, length and vibrance. Kuch of what the wine has to offer is held in reserve at the moment. The wine be best after 2026.

Smelled like a Spring Mtn cab so I immediately liked it. Kirsch, plum and violet nose that wears its oak like a Pashmina, and fine tannins that are also ripe in a very Califorina-like way. We drank the decanted bottle over several hours and didn't see the tannins emerge further.

With truffle notes to kick this off, the wine is plush, polished, pure and fresh. Medium/full bodied with sweet, fresh, dark cherries at its core, and soft, elegant textures on the palate, the wine needs a few years in the bottle for everything to fill out.

They have been on fire here lately and the 2016 continues that trend. Silky, plush, polished, pure and fresh, this finesse driven wine offers good concentration and lift, with ripe, sweet, dark red fruits and licorice from start to finish.

Fresh nose. There is fine freshness overall, a hint of drying, but not too bad at all. Smooth overall, in fact a bit cooler than some premiers grands crus… Nice job. But – dear reader – don’t forget the fresher, more lifting 2014. A second sample was more suave and nuanced: a 2016 that rivals 2015. OK, a bit of drying on the finish, and I still adore the 2014 from this estate as a great purchase. But the 2016 is promising. 90-93

Silky, lushly textured and with, ripe, polished tannins, the wine offers intensity, concentration and purity of fruit. The sweet, ripe, dark plums and black cherries with freshness, giving it a lot of vitality, along with the added nuances of licorice, smoke and flowers. There is more depth and silkyness here than found in previous vintages.
