Great bouquet of dark berries, jam, flowers and spices. Fantastic palate, intense, black berries, quite some tannins, some acidic bite but a great sweetness that carries a long finish with spices. Still young but great to drink.

Served en magnum. Far too young but a step up from the Brun/Blond. Lot’s of red fruit with a bit more concentration than the Brun/Blond. Maybe in 5 years this merits 93ish.

Drink after slow oxidation for 4 hours. Medium to deep purple. Plum, blackberry, black pepper, coffee, with earthy and floral notes. Medium-to-full body, chewy but silky tannin, with balanced acidity. The fruit and oak are also well-balanced. The aftertaste is reasonable long but lacks something exciting.

Blackberries, black pepper, dried spices, smokey dust notes. Medium/full bodied with grippy tannins. Youthful. Two hour decant wasn't long enough. More air time elevated the ripe fruit. Much smoother second day.

Clean closure. Still deepest purple with the narrowest clear rim. Nose is so blackberry with a little blood and iron. Big palate - fruit very much blackberry, even blackcurrant. Nice salinity and serious tannins - and I mean serious tannins - fine grained, soft but big, bold and handsome. This wine has another 20+ years minimum.

The only old world syrah in a 3 bottle 2015 syrah lineup that was served with a beef rib with mushrooms. The tobacco, figs and dates. Mushroom au jus in the middle. Savory. Compared to the SQN Trouver l'Arene Syrah, both of these paired amazingly well with the beef rib for different reasons. I think the SQN went better with the beef, whereas this wine paired remarkably well with the mushroom sauce and it was really neat to see the differences that each one of these brought out in the dish. This wine is a baby! Was open for a few hours before enjoying. I think the proper rating for this wine right now is NR, with potential for 95+.
Fabulous wine that is entering the start of its drinkability window. Opulent, fresh, silky and loaded with with sweet, ripe, vibrant, red fruits, flowers, smoke and spice, this is not far from level of quality of the more famous and expensive La La’s, if you like Cote Rotie, this is probably the best value of the vintage. Drink from 2022-2040.

Decanted 3 hours. A completely different showing than 3 years ago. This time the nose offered up a very prevalent scent of grouse blood, supported by blackberries, blueberries, leather, tobacco and almond. The palate is close to seamless despite its big volume, just a touch of tannins on the long bitter finish. Fine complexity with very juicy cherries, leather, pine needles, muscat, dirt(earthy note) and dried mushrooms. I liked the way this came together in bottle, though IMO it will never reach dizzying hights.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, this took 1st place among 6 N. Rhones by an extremely wide margin in the vote. 4 of the 6 were classic in style, but this one also was "velvety" smooth with a hint of vanilla and oak that really set it off.

One off buy by my generous brother in law ($119.99) in DC for dinner of sablefish in sake-miso with him, K and sis. On nose and palate, potent notes of blue and blackberries, sweet black cherries, earthy minerality, ground spice, lavender, violets, white pepper, mocha and note of red currants on the back end giving some lovely contrast. Purple black, medium bodied, thick legs. Rollicking acidity and tannins, no heat. Highly complex with very good persistence and intensity. Built like the Great Wall of China, this presented with a wall of tannins and acidity on opening, yet even at that point, was never unwelcoming nor unyielding. As time went by with a near 7 hour decant, the tannins and acidity, largely relented and receded, making for a more accessible quaff, although the fruit lost a touch of intensity as well. Well-balanced, subtle and elegant with moderate power, this drank equally well on its own and with the highly seasoned dinner, and has the versatility to work with almost anything this side of lightly seasoned white meat chicken or white fish. I’ll cop to minimal familiarity with this bottling and drinking preferences are personal and vary for sure, but for me, I have to disagree with YoYo that popping this now is in any way infanticide, as the fruit shone and the elements, even when at their largest, were more or less in sync. Sfwl has concentrated most of his Rhône fire on destinations south and Grenache, but learning more about the Northerners and his third favorite grape, the uber versatile Syrah, nears the top of his agenda for 2022 and years on. Much more like the recent taut Astralis than Amon Ra or Andremily, with relatively low alcohol (13.5% abv) and superior structure. At the oft ridiculous tariffs my desiderata trade for, this constitutes more than solid value. And if you don’t want to mediate drinking window squabbles, buy 2, drink one now and the other in a decade or more and let us know what you think. 95-96+
Just forget about this for at least a decade, probably two. Double decant, 4 hrs of air and this was still in fighting mode. Tons of tannins, high acidity, dark fruit, brown sugar and massive new oak scents (dill and vanilla). Scorching tannins on the palate hid the spice and fruit tastes. Weighty mouthfeel, almost port like. A day later, still very youthful, but no longer searingly intense. Very complex spice notes, still hard to pin down. Wood mellowed, leaving very rich dark cherry behind on the palate. This could be an absolute stunner in about 20 years. Sheer infanticide now. Glad I have more. Thought the baby Guigal might be approachable with lots of air so young. Wrong. Don’t touch. Score : 91-96... who knows? Jeff Leve might be right but I am just a random guy. Relative to expectations: anywhere from 0 to +++... who knows? Right now, it’s a beast.

Beautifully balanced. Still a puppy but yum.
Got to be honest, just not my style. Certainly understand that this is way too young as it has very grippy tannins on the finish. Seems to be a little ripe and sweet right now, possibly because of the vintage. Need to sit for a few years.

No decant, gorgeous from first pour. Fresh cherries, ripe deep dark black fruits, perfectly balanced, joyous and fun. Lost it’s fresh punchy fruit interest after two hours. You may want to not decant, the peak was 30-60 minutes where you get access to the primary joy of this terroir and vintage. Interesting to see how it evolves over time.
Very dark in the glass. Long, thin legs. Nose on PnP is immediaely both blue and purple fruit, a streak of lavender, cured meat. On the palate the entry is a very lush texture with a lot of mouth-coating tannins. Medium+ in body. A lot of presence. Very tight on PnP. Will decant.
Re-visiting: After just an hour, it is a bit more open. Smoky toast. Palate is spicy. Sweet black plum and black cherry.
Will benefit from a very extended decant and/or many more years in the cellar as this feels a little closed.
