  • Dark purple, almost black. Varnish, hints of savory and dark blue fruits on the nose. On the palate its soft, not jammy but rounded, with soften tannins and with just enough acid (barely) to keep it moving across the palate. The 15%+ alcohol is evident in the finish. I have drunk worse (of course) but this big bruiser is disappointing.

Its not that its a poorly made wine really, just that its an over extracted, high alcohol, style that lacks nuance or much interest.

Will definitely appeal to those who just want their nightly hit with out any challenges to the palate.

  • Fairly open with massive body and forward fruit. Tannins showed more with some air, but this was defintely drinkable and enjoyable, though somewhat low on varietal character.

  • Hot, with plum, raspberry, and a lot of acidity. Worked better at 70 degrees than fresh from the wine fridge at 60. Jammy, full, and inky.

  • Stimmel's: Jam Session (Bowling Green, OH): Jammy raisin nose, with hints of bacon. Acidic, almost to the point of sourness, medium+ tannins. Inky, long legs. Black fruit, raisin, porty, but everything in relative balance. Even slightly elegant. $30

  • Started a bit tight and tannic but quickly opened up very nicely with dark black fruits and nice balance.

  • Typical Rosenblum extraction with black ink color, some nail polish and intense bourbon aromas and elevated alcohol but being a petite sirah it all somehow worked in a sort of balance. I don't know if it settled down since last tried or if the hard ciders and barbecue ribs I had affected my palate in turn making it feel more balanced.

  • Rather bland, bit of alcohol on the palate and decent fruit but nothing remarkable about this one.

  • Saturday, July 26, 2008 - Saturday, July 26, 2008 - Saturday, July 26, 2008 - As guests at friends' wine group tasting. Using their 20pt scale:

    Appearance (0-2): 2
    Color(0-2): 2
    Aroma(0-4): 3.5
    Acescence(0-2): 2
    Acid(0-2): 2
    Sugar(0-1): 1
    Body(0-1): 1
    Astringency(0-2): 1.5
    Flavor(0-2): 2
    General Quality(0-2): 1.5
    Total: 18.5

    Adjusting for 100 points scale:
    100 point score = 20 point score * 2.5 +50
1 point out of 20 = 2.5 points out of 50 (50 is low end on 100 point scale)

For each wine in this tasting, this adjustment results in values a little higher than I would normally give, so lowering each by 3 for margin.

    18.5*2.5+50-3 = 93

  • G10 - Rosenblum; 7/26/2008-8/3/2008 (CW @ Spengler): Winner of the night. All facets were outstanding. Will age well for 5+ more years.

  • Typical Rosenblum offering of major extraction. Color is spot on with deep inky blackness that shows the varietal of Petite Sirah correctly. ON the nose however it shows the disjointed effects of many Rosenblum bottlings. Very hot from the alcohol and leaned into that mean nail polish note. Fruit is definitely there but at this point the alcohol and oak completely obscure it. Not sure how this will ever come around. Dissapointing as to how heavy handed the wine making is becoming.

  • Very nice big black fruit. Nice balance and structure, the tannins still a bit strong but not overly so, with a little more time they will settle down.

  • We loved this wine - seriously, what's not to like about a deep intense wine whose cabernet brethren would unnecessarily cost 2X-3X as much. Anyone forking over $30-$50 for cabs probably needs their head examined. There are some very nice Zins and Petite Sirah under $20 out there and this is definitely one to try.

Decanted for a short period before consumption to observe the evolution over the hour or two it takes us to down a wine. This wine was striking to decant as its strong aroma and inky color were impressive. Not surprising, this wine tasted just how it looked - very deep, perfect touch of pepper, and solid long finish. The finish was less than revealing, but was a straight-forward lasting good-bye. Most prominant flavors included plum, currant and pepper, but detected a hints of rasberry, cherry and vanilla. The best attribute of this wine was the perfect integration of the pepper. Overtone, undertone, whatever it was it was subtle yet refined and definite.

This failed to develop further character after decanting, but felt this wine hit the mark anyway. I would recommend this wine as it was worth the price ($18) and plan to pick up another one next time I'm in the market.

  • Deep drak chewy wine. Black purple color - what did you expect - it is a Petite Sirah. Touch of menthol and medicine. Lots of tar and earthy notes with hints of blueberry and spice. Tannins galore.

  • Purple-black ink makes for lovely teeth. Big on plum, cassis, and tannins. Finish stays spicy and reminds a little of Ny-quil. Yes, it's pretty hot (15.7%) , almost fortified, but I like that. Also goes incredibly well with lamb or cajun blackened entrees. Still prefer the Guenoc North Coast over this.

  • $20 a bottle

A: Deep purple ink. The Wine Dark Sea! Legs like it could stand up and run on its own.
N: Black cherries. The nostril hairs burn and so i suspect high alcohol.
P: Fruit driven or what? Black currant, black cherries, violets and anise. Jammy plums, raisins, leather. Cant feel the alcohol burn which is miraculous given how high it is (15.7%). Solid tannic backbone.

C: i might buy again. No i will while i am enjoying fruit forward wines. This stuff is well worth the price tag. Its not trying to be complex.
