Wow. Perhaps my wine of the year for now. Far better than I was expecting and the best La Tache I have had by some margin. The 16 was balanced and super cool with its phenolic greeness. Perfect harmany with the fruit and delicious young stems. A wine that has so much energy and terrior - hard to find anything to complain about here.

blind, side by side with Conti same vintage I guessed both wines right. I would "go" with the Conti but most of the more Burgundy experienced people at the table preferred the LT. Lt is spicier and wilder while the other one is more elegant and subtle. Great experience. Thanks Ingo. 98

The 2016 La Tache is more reserved than the 2015 La Tache, requires more time in the glass to reveal its floral and spice-infused nose. 31hl/ha, interestingly slightly higher than 2015 (26hl/ha). Explosion of exotic spices, fleshy dark cherries, ethereal notes of rose petal, delicate stems and liquorice. Extremely captivating and detailed scents. Top concentration and poised tannins. Satisfying now and will benefit a few more years of ageing. Drink from 2026. (97/100)

Again not rated, having kept a bit of last nights bottle people deemed the wine not clean and another was ordered but the result was the same, perfect cork, provenance etc but just not a Pinot at this point I am afraid. Jammy, heavy and heady, painful to drink even… I fear to say it but to me it’s picked too late.
I will withhold from rating this. Was always an early pull - day 1 if I had been blinded I could have mistaken this wine for a Rayas such was the heady sweet stems perfume and density that this liquid exuded. Decided to decant but it didn’t change much and then kept some back for day 2. A touch more restraint then but still atypical or not in the vein of my desired red burg profile - I frankly state it was the opposite of „pinote“ while certainly a good wine but if I wanted this flavour profile today I would pop a Rayas (maybe 06 comes closest with some air). Lesson learned? Just because it’s on the wine list (and won’t be there in 10-20 years) it’s not necessarily a good idea to pop it. Totally and utterly overshadowed by a pair of Romanee 06 and 11. Bottle 13294.

A late night grab off the list...I've never seen a bottle of DRC go from cork pulled, splash decant, poured in glasses, then drunk, SO quickly! My initial impression was how wonderfully red fruited and elegant the wine was! A brighter, more feminine LT than I've had. Just SO pretty with crushed wild redberry fruits, exotic dusty and floral tea spices...killer dryness of red licorice and crunchy minerals...bright and focused, yet reserved power that doesn't want you to see all the goods just yet! Can't imagine how much even better it would have been, with a couple hours in the decanter! WOW wine for sure.

Amazingly crisp and precise aromas with incredibly refined and complex fruit of red berries, purple fruit peel, most delightful spices and this distinctive deep saltiness that really impresses. A entry that takes your breath away and puts you off a bit. So present. So clean. An indescribable balance between being deeply concentrated and powerful, yet so refined and elegant. Dark powerful fresh berries, forest floor and deep salts that impress. Light animal tones in the background. Perfect tannins. Long and energetic finish. Not much to draw here. 98 points. For now. (98-100 points)

Part of a 2016 DRC tasting, a vintage that impressed with how approachable it already was, purity, elegance and versatility. For me, the La Tâche scored best, followed by Richebourg and Romanée-Conti – although the latter may well surpass the La Tâche in the long run. Corton came in last. Montrachet, Échezeaux and Grands-Échezeaux were not produced commercially that year and older vintages offered instead.
There is lots of depth and finesse. Intense red cherry, maybe unsweetened cherry jam, just a tad bit of smoke, bacon and a fruit that finds further support from mineral notes such as graphite or flint stone. A drop of rose water perfume. A beautifully juicy palate brimming with ripe red cherry, fresh acidity and tightly knit texture with soft tannins. Medium+ length finish. Microscopic precision. Over time sweet spices and herb are being expressed on top. Whether this will be the long-term winner in a race against Romanée-Conti over the next decades is a different question, but for me the wine of the night, no doubt about that.

DRC 2016 – what survived the frost: Intro: Another great vintage. At this early stage I slightly prefer the 2016s over the 2015s at the same point last year as the former show a bit more open and complex (due to a less dominant fruit core). Out of the 5 reds, the Richebourg is my #1 with its early charms and seductiveness. The La Tache is the most complex and shows a tad more open than the Romanee Conti, which is so dense and packed that it very likely will reach higher highs than all other wines. The RSV also boasts the fantastic structure and finesse without the incredible depth of the big 3.
TN: Incredibly complex and ever changing aroma profile on the nose and palate with dark fruits, dark forest berries with time more and more pure red fruits with strawberries, cranberries, cherries, strawberry candy, rose hip, fresh herbs, loads and loads of minerality with wet stone, granite, earthy tones. The complexity and the purity of the aromas are off the charts. The structural frame comes with the softest tannins and a very round and high acidity which will need some more time to further integrate. Great length. Incredible 97/98 nose thanks to the unbelievable complexity, 95/96+ on the palate thanks to the complexity and structure with some deductions for the acidity. This could become a masterpiece and a (nearly?) perfect wine in 20 years.

Dégustation Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Verticale 2016, avec Déjeuner (1243 Bourgogne Society - Beaune): Sit-down tasting with Aubert of the 2016 lineup. Ripe black and red cherry on both nose and palate. Less perfumed/ spice aromatic character vs Romanée St. Vivant or Richebourg, but there is a seamless harmony here between aromas and flavors that is stunning for a wine this young. Everything is already so integrated and elegant and hinting at unfolding layers upon layers of complexity. Perhaps a bit drying right now on its finish, but I fully expect that will easily soften. 96-98 point potential.

Deep and richly spiced nose. By far the best texture of the DRC line up. Lots of Vosne spices on the palate. Darker fruits. Still hard to assess other than to say this is greatness in the making.

Winos' excellent adventure in France; 6/22/2017-6/27/2017 (All over France): Despite still going through malo, the nose is absolutely sensual. Refined nose displaying pure decadent black fruit, blackberry jelly, cherry compote, liquid smoke, incense, lavender, a hint of stem, Vosne spice and limestone. Exceptional concentration, layers upon layers of intense black fruit, weightless, silky, perfect amount of acidity, strong mineral presence and an intense long finish with incense and blackberry at the end. Absolutely sensual. Excellent showing and the greatness is already evident.
