Deep and rich with that dark mysterious flavor of red fruits and earthiness if fine Mourvèdre. Made the mistake of putting it up against an Yves Leccia O Ba 2015 that was voluptuous.

I've consumed 10-12 bottles of this wine over the past few years and this one was different from the others, tasting much younger. But with several hours in a decanter, it becomes more easily drinkable, even if still showing very primary dark fruits. One way or another, it's a great wine. Cellared since original release.

Notes from memory. Still very much wound up and primary even after a few hours of air in the bottle. Super juicy/nervy core of acidity and thick tannins. Will be best 2025+. Technical score: 92. Enjoyment score: 90.

PnP, with barnyard notes jumping out of the glass. Black cherry, black licorice, smoke, and tar coalesce throughout on the palate, with garrigue and tar lingering on the tannic finish. Ripe, but mouthwatering acidity keeps it feeling fresh. Delicious now and likely for years to come.

3 hour decant. Pretty violet color. A little funk over the fruit and floral nose. Very dark fruited but fresh. Good chunk of tannins, a bit of a carbonic note on the finish. The funk finally blows off 4.5 hours in leaving the dense blue fruit battling the tannic structure. Hold for a long time.

Popped and poured the first third, kind of a waste... tight, barnyardy, intense. Really opened up nicely on day 2, boysenberry, savory and deep earth and blood flavors, floral notes and acidity lift it on the finish, lonnnnnnnnnng as expected... delicious.

Absolutely gorgeous, but utter infanticide to drink this now. Deep and powerful, with dense black fruits, black liquorice, olive tapenade, black pepper, and herbes de provence. Intensely coloured, it hits your palate like a wall. Immense structure that is rather unapproachable now but sure to blossom into quite the stunner.
Slightly shut down compared to previous bottles, but still enormous potential here. Medium-full body, dense, smooth; spicy dark fruits. Cellared since original release.

PnP. Similar to previous notes - floral, cedar, dirt; lots of terroir. This bottle though had lots of spice that really tingled the tongue and was unattractive. I’ve had a lot of this wine over the years, so not sure what this was, as it never happened before. Wasn’t totally obtrusive, but strange.

After four years of hell, it seemed like a good day to open a celebretory bottle, but in fact I was too emotionally exhausted to open something that was top of the top. So I reached for a reliable in plenty of supply and was not in the least disappointed: smooth and silky with intense cherry fruit that is just short of jam. Beautiful wine with potential to be even better in the future.

Informal note. Very nice Tempier. Super clean version, more polished than I remember older vintages being. I would not have guessed a Tempier in a blind tasting. Sun drenched ripeness, good energy, not very tannic, very distinct raspberries on the nose and the palate. Nice wine.

Mourvedre 75%, Grenache 14%, Cinsault 9%, Carignan 2% Initial notes just after popping the cork: Nose is earthy, meaty with lots of garrigue. The palate is a smorgasbord of flavors. You get savory, a little sweetness, then acid, and then savory again with some mint. Dark cherry notes. Anise. Black pepper. Present but rather elegant tannins for such a young Tempier. Good length. I think this is more elegant and fresher than the 2015, which was more voluptuous. After an hour decant and over the course of the meal, it became even more integrated and smoother. What I love about Tempier is it makes you think of Provence. The garrigue notes are of course common in Rhone and Provencal wines. But also the black licorice/anise notes which is typical for Bandol reds, make you also think of another drink from this region, pastis. Tempier always manages to be beautifully rustic-representative of this less glitzy town in the Cotes d’Azur compared to Cannes or St. Tropez. Overall, approachable now with a short decant and with food because of its balance and sweet tannins, but it has potential to gain complexity without losing its elegant potency for many years. 93+
Bought after being warned of high quality by previous cellar tracker tasters. Pnp. Very dark hue with violin borders. Nose closed and discret, iodin, tar, wet wood, and fresh cutted branches by road workers. Mouth fresh (18°C), almost fizzy, crunchy, some tanins indeed but a nice core of natural red berries juice, ending with licoricce. No globalising style here, but terroir expression. Perhaps a new natural bandol style. So early and good potential. 90-92 34 euros here in Provence, southern France.
Medium purple color. Classic nose filled with violets. This wine really struck me as a mix between Burgundy and Bordeaux. The sweet fruit of Burgundy and the earthy, cow shit from Bordeaux. Deep and bold, with a medium plus finish.

A very dark colour; the palate is quite noticeably sweet, with dark, slightly burnt fruit and a noticeable spritz, which detracts. Ready to drink now but will keep. Rather expensive at £29.
Way too young, but so delicious now, nonetheless!. Dense, sensual texture with dark cherry fruit, still a tannic backbone. Great potential for the next 25-30 years.

This is fantastic. Fresh out of the bottle, it's not identifiable as anything other than building in intensity. It takes a few hours - like, at least three - to come into its own, but it thickens right up, it's almost like a gravy. Amazing balance of acidity with tannins - your mouth doesn't know whether to water or dry out. Fruit is subdued for me, but it's got the savoury character I associate with mourvedre in spades. Every sip hits your palate like a ball hitting a bat in its sweet spot, it just whacks all the right notes and everything sings
A word of warning: my partner left a little in a glass and drank it after 6 hours air, and it was unpleasantly metallic in aftertaste. I topped up from a recorked bottle and didn't suffer at all.

Half bottle. 30+ minute decant. Definitely a top echelon nose - perfume, flowers (violets?), dirt, dark cherry fruit etc. Well balanced wine on the palate with dark fruit and a perfect combination of richness and finesse. Medium plus finish. Aging potential but don’t give too much air. Paired great with Chinese food. All the reason I’ve been buying this wine for the better part of a decade!!
Still a little shaken up compared to bottles drunk in France, but this is a magnificent vintage for Tempier, the best since 2011, at least. Smooth and velvety with deep dark fruits. Will continue to improve for many years. Cellared since original release.

It was decanted for 2 hours and consumed with a Striploin steak.
The nose gives me oak, chocolate, vanilla, white pepper with lots of dark berries with hints of smoke and herbs.
The palate is quite the same, but I do get a strawberry jam and spices.
Tannins are medium+ Body are medium+ Acidity is medium+
It is worth knowing that the same grapes are used in both CDP and Bandol, but in other scales. And that the two regions are very close to each other.
I do find this Bandol delicious, complex and funky. This wine is not for anyone. 4 years of age is nothing and it could be fun to watch it over the next 20 years. There is a lot of potential.
I have to say that it was fun to try this Provence wine, but I have tasted other wines from other regions that suits me more.

Tasted together with the same wine in the 2015 vintage, as well 2015 and 2016 "la Migua". Clearly inferior to the la Migua, but still a great drinking wine. Dark colour, nice aromas of dark berries, smoke and a mineral tone (iron). Full bodied, very tannic attack, high acidity. Sweet fruit emerges in the finish, plums, dark berries, as well as a mineral tone. This is younger that 2015, and will need some years to come around. Keep for five years, and then drink over the next decade or so. My exerience with these wines is that they are almost immorta

My first experience with this wine was a bases loaded home run. Have been a huge fan of their Rose, but have not had their red Bandol till today. A stunning wine. Floral, jammy, stony blue fruit aromas waft from the glass. A welcome, delicious acidic bite prepares the palate for a mineral infused, medium to full bodied rush of fruit. Fine grained tannins are in the mix, but not obtrusively so. The savory, crushed stone aspect of this sets it apart. Impeccable balance. This is a very serious wine for the price point, with maximum QPR. Looking forward to future developments. What a wonderful wine.

A bit carbonic to start, though this did blow off with air, this has a gorgeous core of concentrated dark fruit. Appealing in that it has plenty of requisite acidic freshness, and is as much savory as sweet. The concentrated fruit covers up the tannin for the most part, though you get a feel for its quiet power. Excellent material here for a village wine, it just needs some time to unfurl. Followed over three hours. Revisit in 3-5 years.

Red fruit, blood orange, white pepper, spices, and a hint of raspberries on the nose. Good structure with medium+ tannins and flavors of bitter orange, tart dark berries, and more red fruit on the palate. Good finish. This is painfully young and needs at least 5 years in the bottle. Don't touch it now. 91-93

For those who know Kermit Lynch’s “Adventures on the Wine Route,” Domaine Tempier should stand tall amongst the fabled unsung French heroes. Perhaps because Mourvèdre is an equally unsung hero.
2016 is a field of herbs de Provence with a texture slippery like jello. Barely ripe strawberries and raspberries, and a good dose of chalky limestone.

Closed at first, takes an hour or so to show some ripe blackberry aromas. Moderate acidity keeps things reasonably bright. Some chewy tannin and just a little bitterness/earthiness. Fine I guess but feels like this wine needs some time in the cellar to come together.

Quite nice dark, meaty blackberry fruit; good, somewhat reserved flavor, nice balance, medium acidity, fine slightly grippy tannins. Very deep and tasty, so good, particularly for the base Bandol; cries out for a thick grilled steak. Love the somewhat backward, reserved nature of the vintage, nothing overripe or sweet, but it needs time in the bottle.

Bright black fruit up front... blackberry & boysenberry... moves eventually into the expected dense, slightly meaty, pepper and herb driven core with hints of sage and lavender. Finishes long on good tannin and some acidity. A little more fruit than expected, not a bad thing just interesting. Kept opening up over the 4 days (!) we had it open, towards violets and lavender on the front and a general smoothing of the tannins.

Dense and spicy with dark fruits. Maybe starting to close up a little now compared to earlier bottles.

Still a little shaken up compared to bottles drunk in France, but this is a magnificent vintage for Tempier, the best since 2011, at least. Smooth and velvety with deep dark fruits. Will continue to improve for many years. Cellared since original release.

Sooo... My first wine from Provence!
It was decanted for 2 hours and consumed with a Striploin steak.
The nose gives me oak, chocolate, vanilla, white pepper with lots of dark berries with hints of smoke and herbs.
The palate is quite the same, but I do get a strawberry jam and spices.
Tannins are medium+
Body are medium+
Acidity is medium+
It is worth knowing that the same grapes are used in both CDP and Bandol, but in other scales. And that the two regions are very close to each other.
I do find this Bandol delicious, complex and funky. This wine is not for anyone. 4 years of age is nothing and it could be fun to watch it over the next 20 years. There is a lot of potential.
I have to say that it was fun to try this Provence wine, but I have tasted other wines from other regions that suits me more.

Excellent. a fantastic food wine. Fresh, medium body with savory fruit. A great finish. Well balanced wine. Drinkable now, and years to come. Best of this class of wine.

A beautiful purple black color. Violet nose. Really delicious for a young Bandol. Lucious fruit, with layers of complexity. White pepper, spice followed by a long finish. Tannins are present, but far from overpowering. Should evolve beautifully.

Robe dense sur des teintes violets;
