A blend of 1990, 98, 99, 2008, 09, 12,13 and 14. 3 g/L dosage. A very pleasing scent with green apple. Very delicate with creamy bubbles and very fresh palate with apples and limes with hints of age in thr back. Good finish. Neither overly complex nor simple. Worth the price tag.

40th anniversary tasting (L'Esprit du Vin - Axelborg): My notes from this fantastic gigantic tasting are in general extremely short (because of the many wines) but with ratings. We spent a whole day tasting and tasting quality wines.

In 2022 my impression was: “ Very light mousse - needs more bottle age (disgorged 11/2018). Bright, soft hints of brioche, sharp finish. 90 now, 91 with time.”
Time has improved this bottle. Same disgorgement date. The depth and complexity has increased a couple notches, though the energy and brightness has remained intact. Excellent.

Family Holidays; 7/28/2023-9/10/2023 (Alicante - España): By the glass. This champagne, created in 2013, is made with a blend of theorically its best vintages: 1988, 1996, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010 with an alcoholic volume of 12.5%. When only reserve wines are used, ripe aromas of white fruit prevail over other notes of toasted almonds or candied fruit. The palate maintains that serious, abundant and mineral tone, with a lively acidity and a long aftertaste. Maybe the best you can taste of this sharp declining house.

(Disgorged in June 2017, bottled in November 2013 with base year 2010 and with selected reserves from 2009, 2008, 2006, 1996 and 1988, dosage 3 gr/L) Lovely yellow colour with streams of very fine bubbles slowly rising in the glass revealing a delicious nose with lime citrus, Bourbon vanilla, mandarin citrus and some ginger and with a pleasant spicy oakiness covering it all as it opens up in the glass. Very creamy palate focused on lime citrus acidity and some hints of tarragon showing on the mid combined with some ginger spiciness and a pleasant and lengthy finish showing lime zest bitterness. This has evolved very well over the last couple of years, but still focused on a youthful intensity.. (Best 2020-2035)

Disgorged 06/2016. Really nice balance. Good acidity, bit of drying, fine mousse, slightly golden yellow. Brioche aromas, and a steely minerality, lemons, and ripe apples. Long finish. Flavours also show above as well as a lemon pith bitterness, some burnt orange and caramel. Nice complexity.

Blend of 1990, 1998, 1999, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010 & 2012 - aged for a minimum of five years. Pinot Noir is 45%, Chard is 27% & Pinot Meunier is 28% of this blend.
Baked apples, lemon zest, brioche, almond, apricot, hint of salinity, with nice dryness.

Disgorged 2018. Glittering gold yellow with a nice citrus & biscuit nose. Fine, though almost non existent beads. Lovely mouthfeel, light to medium bodied. Some citrus, ripe green apples and honeysuckle. Decent length. Could definitely do with a bit more bottle age for our palates. Went well with moderately spiced Korean food. Coped with the heat of the spices whilst enhancing the flavours.

Very good persistance, though, and one who kept the last of the wine in the glass all evening reported great and wonderful development. So maybe good things come to those who wait? Served blind. Subtle aged nose that was quite welcoming but never would have placed this as reserve wines with such age. Some chalk / talc on nose. Rather bland and feels bit short / light and the low dosage gives it a leaner profile. Surprised it delivered so little.

Not a regular fan of Veuve Clicquot, but this is the second bottle of Extra Brut Extra Old that I've had and I really like the richness, balance and refreshing acidity of this Champagne. 47% Pinot Noir, 27% Chardonnay, 26% Meunier. From reserve wines of 2010, 2009, 2008, 2006, 1996 and 1988. Dosage 3 g/l.

EBEO #2. I'm not generally a Veuve/Grande Marque kinda guy, but this was pretty intriguing. With base wines going back to 1990 or so, this pours a beautiful gold colour and instantly gives golden orchard fruit, a light oxidative note, and almond paste. The mousse is quite fine and it feels like it isn't bottled super bubbly, which is nice; it's well-balanced on the palate with more golden apples and light brioche, with fresh acidity and a zesty finish. I don't know if it's going to develop that much more from here. Tasty and something a little different from a house not known for its reserve wines.

10 karat gold in colour. Supremely fine and delicate mousse that is barely there. Certainly in no way exuberant or excessive. Complex nose of red and yellow fruits, brioche, light rancio (likely from the older 1988 wine in the blend), limestone and even a hint of treacle. Medium-full palate, very smooth, mellow acid (perhaps an oxymoron but taste it and you'll see what I mean) and quite lush for a Champagne. The richness of the fruit masks the fact that it is extra dry. The palate is similarly complex and just lovely with the same flavour profile as the nose. The fruits tend towards red and white currants, yellow plum as well as button mushrooms and straw. Eminently sippable on its own but also stands up to a wide variety of food. I have to go with a 96 points on this one!

Intriguing blend, a little tighter and more austere than the regular house blend, needs food perhaps (caviar?!) and/or maybe a little more bottle age. Date of disgorgement: 11/2018

1st of 3 magnums. ~52% PN, 18% PM, 30% Chardonnay. DG date 07/2016. 3 G/L dosage. This is brilliant, everything I love in Champagne. Enjoyed with baby artichokes and some various cheeses and crackers. 3 of us drained the magnum over a few hours. Hazelnuts, fresh bread crust, lemon zest, green apples, chalk and minerality. Lovely mouthfeel, bracing acidity (which I adore), and a long and energetic finish. Drink now through 2028+.

Disgorgement date 2016. Liked, and definitely better than your average NV, but a poor QPV in the $80s. Stylistically it is Veuve, with a certain evenness and roundness. Definitely a bit more acidity and less richness due to the low dosage. Complexity of the "extra old" part didn't really show through that much. Again, liked, but not a great value.

a well made champagne, in a mildly oxidative style. Very gentle bubbles - this, I believe, was bottled under lower pressure than normal. though this had low/no dosage, the age of the underlying wines gave this a sensation of ripeness/sweetness which I enjoyed very much. Some green apples, plus a hint of lemon and honey and nuts. Bought this for cheap when it was first released - but at current pricing, not going to rebuy this.

Golden straw colour. Lots of baking bread notes on the nose. Apple and citrus flavours gain added complexity from the honey and almond notes. This wine has wonderful texture, a smooth richness that is defined and precise. Gentle mousse (4.5 bar) adds to the sensation of smoothness. A big step up from yellow label. www.advinetures.ca

Fresh red apples but still with a touch of oxidation and citrus. The fruit is sweet but the wine is quite dry. Developed nicely in the glass but the aftertaste is a bit short. This was their second release of this wine. Vintage 1990, 1998, ..., 2008.

(Disgorged in June 2016, base year 2010 with reserves back to 1988, dosage 3 gr/l) Light yellow colour showing a youthful nose showing gunpowder, hazelnuts and citrus in a pleasant way. Fresh on the palate with red apples and a creamy mid and with a nice and lengthy lime zest bitterness on the finish. This has evolved nicely over the last year and should still be even better on half a decade or so. (Best 2020-2035)

Moderately shrunken cork. Lemon colour - paler than expected. Lemon on the nose, unassuming and quite lactic. Youthful, high acid taste. Lots of citrus, green apple. With air, a strong note of orange. Bracing, entirely lacking the aged character I was hoping for. Could do with more dosage - and I hardly ever say that. Disappointing. Bottled Nov 2013, disgorged Jun 2016. [Cork + cage; 12% abv; Drinkmonger, ~£67].

This is a blend of several of Veuve’s vintages (1988, 1996, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010). In the glass, it has a medium straw hue, with gentle, focused bubbles. The nose is interestingly reminiscent of both vintage and nonvintage champagnes, with a citrus forward scent that is accompanied by a toasty crème brûlée backing. In the mouth you’ll find that it marries the flavors of lemon peel and creme in the front with what seems like a pear backing. Not overly complex, but incredibly interesting as it has a swirling, 10-12 second finish. This is Extra Brut and completely delicious. Have not tried EBEO2 as of yet, but will be interested to see how the “sequel” compares.

Sunday Pot au feu at Pokai Parera (Pokai Parera, Ekatahuna, New Zealand): Marvellous champagne - very much in the Verve Cliquot style, but with a beautifully refined balance, with great mouth feel, and a rare equilibrium between older and newer material. Frothy texture, and a great modulated finish.

Tasted at 30,000 feet. This is a six vintage blend '88 to '10 and a low dosage of 3g/L. Super dry palate. Clearly old material with lemon/red apple/biscuity notes. Too me it could have done with a little higher dosage to showcase that old fruit and it would have been a better wine that way (but against what the House was aiming for). I think this could age still. Still looking for the perfect champagne.

Härlig doft. Väldigt bubblig och brusig. Hade förväntat mig ett tyngre vin men det är mjukt och känns väldigt rent med mineral. Lite kort i smaken men väldigt fin.
Två dagar senare var bubblorna inte lika intensiva. Lite mer och längre syra som satt kvar i gomen en stund. Efter ett tag blir den lite krämig. Fortfarande väldigt bra!

New Year's Eve, 2019 Pokai Parera (Pokai Parera, Ekatahuna, New Zealand): Gentle, frothy texture. Light on its feet, but possesses a wonderful balance between freshness and aged nuance. Subtle wine, no hard edges, very refined. Perhaps lacks a little intensity, and layers of flavour in the middle, but it is completely convincing in its smooth as silk style. Great wine to start start a meal.

With a fresh and creamy palate, citrus acidity and red apples and a very intense lemon peel finish and a hint of fennel. Much drier palate compared to standard release as well as vintage cuvée. This has evolved very nicely with a year in my cellar compared to the first time I tried this cuvée and shows that this will keep maturing in a positive way for years to come.. (Probably best with 2-20 years of extra cellaring)

Happy Father's Day! This has the rich, biscuit-like persona of Veuve without the sweetness, which I expect is what they are going for. The mouthfeel is full, then tapers to a lemonade tinge that lingers long enough to impress. I enjoyed the richness and complexity, though I'm not convinced it couldn't have benefitted from a higher dosage. For the money ($85), I'm not going to purchase more, though I consider it an interesting, informative experience. Also, I'm feeling "extra old" these days so I appreciate a label that speaks to me so frankly.

Hög ganska pigg syra som hänger kvar lite i munnen. Mycket citrustoner och jag upplever frukten som lätt och nästan tillbakahållen. Där finns ändå någon form av elegans. Små lena bubblor. Kan vinna på att lagras.

Enjoyed this over dinner last night via the generosity of Steve Nordhoff who brought this bottle back from his visit to Veuve. Based on the back label, it is a 6 vintage blend--1988, 1996, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010. Dosage is 3 g/l and it appears to be disg'd in June 2016. It's not available in the US to my knowledge and is sold (for now) only in Europe, perhaps limited to the domaine, too. And, this is the first time the domaine has made this cuvee, a new project if I understand it right. I really don't care for anything Veuve that I have had to date, as the wines are too sweet for my palate. However, this bottling of Veuve is terrific. The dosage level reflects a wine of leaner tone. Lemon, yellow apple, grapefruit and a brushing of saline that gives it a cool, drying finish. Great balance, nothing cloying here and has a lightly nutty tone, I presume from some of the aged components? Delicious.

Dg 11/2017 3g/L
Opens up beautifully with a mild creamy vanilla note. Fine bubbles, good dosage, medium acidity.
Slightly floury ripe apple note on the finish.
With some time it opens up nicely…
Now pretty sharp lemon notes and acidity working its way into the foreground.
This wine is definitely quite focused and linear especially because of the extra brut dosage.
I am pretty confident this will become more fun in 5 years.

Wow!
Nice straw yellow with reflections of green grass when viewed at an angle.
Very fine bubbles that rise like in a chimney.
The colour leads you to believe that the taste will be something and it turns out to something that is totally different yet wonderful.
Nose: Dried fruits, the age of done of the reserves in this champagne come through. Yet there is a feeling of freshness.
Taste: Fruity, refreshing, medium bodied with a very nice length.
This can be had as an apéro with a mix of finger foods or with a dish of fine fish taretare, scallops, creamy fish dishes,,Asian starters etc.

Light yellow colour showing a youthful nose showing gunpowder, hazelnuts and citrus in a pleasant way. Fresh on the palate with red apples and a creamy mid and with a nice and lengthy lime zest bitterness on the finish. This has evolved nicely over the last year and should still be even better on half a decade or so.

Yellow colour with a intensive stream of fine bubbles in a youthful way and with a nose going from youthful to mature showing with sulphur, minerals, baked bread, red apples, flowers, licorice and in a nice and positive way.

Delicious.
