{Corton Clos des Corton tasting organized by JL at Black Cat}. Almost sexy nose, very attractive, delicious, very good length, can be drunk now (very unusual for this vineyard). I was quite surprised by how much I liked this wine!

Reddish pale ,woody aromas and a hint of graphite reduction, black ripe cherry scents and soil, these aromas extend in the mouth. The toast is quite prominent at that stage, the coffee and burnt flavors tend to mask the fruit, the barrel lending its sweetness. There is however good sappy silkiness, tannins are soft but present, decent concentration of flavors but slightly short for grand cru, ending in a chalky, persistent and fresh finish. This is a soft vintage, and the extraction is well judged with soft tannins, so this could be drunk quite young. If you like oaky Burgundy, then go for it. However for my taste it is just too oaky for that soft vintage, and the oak masks the fruit. It is a pity because the wine has qualities, so let's see if Erwan Faiveley will make in the future some changes in the barrel program and make purer expressions of Corton.
Deep garnet colored. Ripe red cherries, blueberries, some pomegranate and soft sweet tobacco notes. In the background some spices and dried herbs. Medium (+) bodied with a nice medium (+) intense acidity. The tannins are a bit chalky and not completely integrated yet. Great complexity and depth. A quite powerful and fruit driven Pinot. A very good structure and a nice overall balance. The finish is very savory and long. It’s not as precise and elegant as the 2018 Meo Les Chaumes (see notes two posts before) we had the same evening but it feels a little more powerful and complex. It’s not completely ready yet and patience will definitely be rewarded. It will peak in 7-10 years. Drink from 2026-2038. 93 points for now, but +94 is definitely possible. (IG)

La Paulée de New York Grand Tasting (Pier Sixty, Chelsea Piers - New York NY): Walk around tasting. Lots of red and black cherry with hints of roasted meat and spice. Surprisingly approachable this young, but that's the vintage. Good weight now, even if not quite at the level I expect from this wine, so I see 90-93 point potential based on how much weight this picks up as it ages, and I would not open a bottle until 2027 at the earliest.

La Paulée 2020 Grand Tasting of 2017 Burgundy (Pier 60, New York): Medium weight but quite sappy. Sweet red fruit with a squirt of citrus. Pure, deep, and long. Remarkably approachable and friendly for this cuvée and Corton in general, but built for substantial aging. Very well done.

Really concentrated and so far a little tied aromas with dense red fruit, lovely saltiness and wet leather belt. Nice full bodied and fresh wine with very concentrated and great mouthfeel. Lovely pure red berries and clear saltiness that impress. Fresh and long finish. Nice tannins. Reference Corton! 94 points.

A baby, of course, with almost hystericaly young fruit - not very Corton-like at the moment, but extremely healthy and well structured. It has lightness and elegance galore, will be very interesting to see in ten years - would not look at it earlier than that - on day 3, it is showing even better, you now feel some roasted notes, well integrated oak. Tis will last. 93+ #X-pensiveWinos

Tasting at Domaine Faiveley (Nuits Saint George): A real step up here. Dense and primary nose with black cherry and plenty of spice/earth that lurks beneath the fruit. Rich, dense and powerful on the palate with GC concentration in full display. The tannins are surprising tame and there is a nice restraint in the wine's finish. Perhaps this vintage will drink well early, relative to other vintages any way. 93-94

Five winos excellent adventure , mostly in Burgundy; 6/7/2019-6/15/2019 (Beaune, France): Expressive nose displaying pure black fruit, blackberry, black cherry, rose, sweet spices and limestone. Very good concentration, fresh and pure black fruit, silky and sensual, medium acidity, strong mineral, very fine tannins and a medium to long pure black fruit driven finish. I much the 16.

2018 Visit to Domaine Faiveley (Nuits St. Georges): From the barrel, drinking more open and accessible than the 2016 Corton Faiveley did from bottle. A bouquet of dry clay, spices, blackberries and mainly dark cherries. A fine, precise entry. Powerful with fine grained tannins. Mainly dark fruited. Chalky minerality. Some grip and structure on the long finish. Very good. Could it be like the 2007 Corton Faiveley and never really close down, remaining relatively accessible throughout its life?

Faiveley Cellar Visit and Tasting (Day 10, Visit 2) (Nuits St.-Georges): Barrel tasting at Faiveley. Slightly sweet red and black cherry with very good density and balance already. Surprisingly approachable, with good complexity, perhaps not at the level this wine shows in its best vintages. 91-93 point potential.

Modern style. Dark fruit, meaty, some oak, good concentration. Good length. Give it much more time.

Musique & Vin Pre-Concert Dégustation (Château du Clos de Vougeot): Walk around tasting. Red and black cherry with so much more going on as well. Meaty, layered and fun now, better 2027 forward. A great success in the vintage.
