A great 93 village wine. Exactly what it should be at this stage if not better than that. Good red fruit to combine with nice structure. Berries, spice, soil notes. Perfect color and nice weight to this. Opened up and got better over a few hours. Very good

Warmed Cherry, mushrooms, old leather and herbal spice on the nose. On the palate, dried cherries, forest floor, hint of ash. Medium acidity and medium to long finish. Only nit here was that the mid palate was a but thin but it was in great shape and fully mature. Old burgundy…Yum!!

A recent purchase and a total stunner given it is a village wine. Color shows mild bricking and nose is oh so chambolle. Fruit still present and enough structure and tannin to hold for a while. If a village wine can wow, this would be it.

A simple village appelation from a so-so vintage and a good producer. The expectations were highly mixed, and most of us tipped it as being on the vinegar side. How surprised we were when the bottle was opened: a long cork almost uncontaminated by wine colour gave way to a strong whiff of cherries from the bottle neck. The colour surprised as well: clear purple core with only a hint of brown at the egdes. Intense aromas of cherries with that core bitterness, some vanilla, lots of minerals (iron), and some dry wood. Medium bodied, good acidity, has perhaps lost some fruit in the mid-palate, but it is still plentiful. Aftertaste of cherries and some dry wood that lingers for a long time. This is just fantastic, I would not have dreamed of this wine keeping so well. Life is good. Sometimes.
this was a 90 for the first five hours, my 7/7/16 note said it all for that period, then went back to a few hours later and it had rounded out a bit and become a little less angular, it was then singing, if I had another I would give it 6-8 hours in decanter before drinking... the last glass was much more like '93 than the '96 experience in the first few hours

this was very very good, red fruits -- cherry and bright strawberry, very good acid (more '96 like than '93 like), tart all around, with the smallest hint of sweetness, drank over three days and enjoyed it most when the sweetness came through a little more... on the whole could have been 1-2 pts higher if not so tart / acidic (which is saying something as I like bright / tart / acidic)... perhaps this is just a bit past its prime?

Melvyn's 50th Birthday Bash (Hua Ting, Orchard Hotel): One of the best village wines I can remember ever drinking. There was an intensely perfumed nose here, full of sweet dark tones of blueberries and violets sprinkled with earth and violets and sweet spice - heady stuff. It was rich and complete in the mouth, punching way above its weight with full, deep flavours of ripe blueberries and cassis playing against an earthy backdrop. All this was framed by mellow acidity and soft, resolved tannins leading into a long finish littered with sweet violets and spice. A whopper of a Chambolle-Musigny, and drinking quite at peak. Yum.

Delightful on the nose, very open and complex with a beguiling deep red fruited character. Very elegant on the palate giving the impression of a classic chambolle that still has plenty to give. Better on it's own than with the food

Another Library Release bottle. Opened and decanted about 90 minutes before serving. Another great showing for this wine. Dark red and black fruit on the nose and palate with great density. Alluring spice and floral. Well structured with a long, gripping finish.

Comte de Vogue Dinner with Jean-Luc Pepin (Les Nomades, Chicago IL): Domaine Library Release. Opened roughly 3 hours before serving, maybe 4. Very similar to the last bottle tasted. Dense black frut on the nose and palate with a savory herb quality; fresh crushed thyme leaves. A good bit of mineral structure on the palate. Fantastic texture. Lengthy finish with great acidity. Extremely impressive wine.

Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Dinner with Jean-Luc Pepin (Les Nomades - Chicago IL): Recent Domaine library release. Open several hours before tasting. Fresh, vibrant and concentrated black fruit. Similar fruit on palate, with modest spice hints. firm and highly structured. Much like another bottle from the same library release tried a few weeks back, I never would have imagined this as old as 1993. Somehow a 1/3 full bottle came home with me from the dinner, and was finished the following evening, where it came across as slightly less fresh, still very firm but longer and more elegant.

Mini Comte de Vogue Dinner (Yusho, Chicago IL): Library Release from the Domaine shipped in about 5 weeks ago. The cork was popped about 2.5 hours before serving, but it was not decanted. Powerful, seductive aromatics right from the start. Dark red cherry and crushed berries with damp earth/crushed leaves and bits of clove. Some mineral/iron notes in the background as well. The same red cherry/berry fruit and earth on the densely packed palate. Medium body with a lengthy finish. Wonderful rich texture and balance of fruit, mineral and acidity. This has quite a bit of structure remaining and I'm in no hurry to drink the bottles I stashed away, but not sure if I'll be able to resist. For drinking now, easily the wine of the night.

Library Release from the Domaine that was shipped in about a month ago. Popped, decanted, and immediated served. Very structured and tight upon first tasting. I served it blind to a number of people who thought it had to be from 2005/2006 given how youthful and structured it was. Agree with Alan that it was fairly hard properly assess at that point. I did hold a half glass back though and watched it evolve over the next (roughly) 60-90 minutes. The wine began to open up quite a bit and show some of its maturity, but it still did not seem like a '93. Perhaps '99. It was a mix of red and black cherry and berry with savory spice notes as well as damp earth. Great ripeness of fruit remaining with wonderful texture. Medium body and finish. Next time I try one of these I'll decant for at least 45 minutes first.

Another Saturday at Knightsbridge - mostly blind (Northbrook, IL): Tasted double blind. This is a library release bottle, recently arrived from the Domaine. Tough to assess because this was popped, decanted and then immediately poured. Since this was tasted blind, I thought this from a much younger well structured vintage, perhaps 2002 or even 2005 (!). There was no doubt about fruit quality and power here, just a question about overall integration.

The quintessential iron fist in a velvet glove. a layered on the nose as you got through the pristine oak you got a wonderful floral aroma tinged with elegant spices, fresh berried fruit, cherries and strawberries, savoury hints at the end. Perfect poise and balance in the mouth, more red currants and sweet strawberry fruit in the mouth, the savoury and herbal elements come through. The fruit isn't dense but it's full on and balances out with the racy acidity, tannins ever so slightly drying. This demurely fills the mouth showing it's pedigree rather than bursting onto the scene.
A wine which is a full 10 years off hitting it's peaks, shame on you Mr Cashman for pursuading me to bring this one down. Our wine of the night.

It’s a big, brooding, muscular Chambolle, bursting with black cherry, prune and plum fruits and still wearing some sappy, resinous oak. It breathes in the glass and has some sweet cedar and floral notes. It is certainly in need of more time and is not as elegant as the last few vintages of this wine.

Never been a huge fan of Vogüé but this 93 was on fire. So expressive and its aromatics soared.
