Popped and poured. It became clear to me pretty quickly this would have benefited from a decant as it was quite tight and restrained. Black cherry, violets, herbs and spice. Medium bodied with some tannin still evident. Plenty of life left.
Two days later out the fridge it’s better. More open with lots of cherry liqueur, tannins better integrated, still a little four square but pretty delicious. Plenty of life still. Upgraded a point.

i thought I would check on a 2005 Grivot village Vosne, at 16 years old it was worth a try I said to myself. It’s a lovely jewel like colour and medium body, after 2 hours decanted the nose is showing just a hint of fruit and Vosne spice, but you have to work pretty hard to get that. The palate still seems somewhat shut down, there’s still plenty of tannin and not a lot of fruit, and it could be drying out based on this bottle. It’s hard to know if this will finally open up and shine, I’ve a couple of bottles left and I think I will leave the next until It’s 20th birthday or there abouts. its not a lot of fun tonight to be honest

Popped and poured. Right in the sweet spot in terms of drinking window. Medium bodied, transparent, red fruited, good acidity but also a fair amount of punch indicating a long life ahead. Red cherries, herbs and spices. Straight forward, classic, well executed Vosne romanee in prime time.

Second and last bottle consumed. Really good village level stuff. The detail wasn't there for a PC, but it opened up nicely after and hour and just had beautiful broad pinot aromas and flavors. Looking at current vintages on Wine Searcher though makes me cringe for what it costs now.

Plenty of ripe black and red cherry with a kiss of new oak and a hug of Chinese five spice. So much depth for its level, with length and nuance to match. Much better tonight vs when last tasted (in 2012), but that’s the ‘05 vintage coming through. A great Village level wine, just now hitting its stride. Best 2015-2025+.

The secondary elements of mushroom and damp earth have begun to infuse around the red and black fruit that are still standing in the forefront. The wine is bolstered by a nice fruit, tannin, and acid structure affording it to develop nicely over the years.

Solid effort that seems closer to drinking window than not. Still lots of life yet but no harm in popping. Lots of typical Vosne spice with the dark and dense qualities of the 05 vintage.

PnP last night with Indian and yes wine does go well with Indian food. Lovely mature red fruit and earth aromas. Started to tighten up after about a half an hour but never really shut down. I'd guess this bottle is out of it's dumb phase, but I'd certainly decant an hour or more unless you are going to drink it right away. I'd buy another, if I could.

powerful, regal Vosne nose of dark cherry, red currant, lots of anise, sandalwood, whiffs of humus and spice. Glycerin-like feel to the fruit on the midpalate, impressive texture, core of fruit. Ends spicy but with distinctly drying tannin today. Show more harmony after 2 + hours. Try again in 5+ years. Great potential and high quality for village. 90-91.

This is dark and almost Cabernet in color (not to mention flavor). The nose is equally large with dark fruit. Loads of tannins. Vosne is bold, but this is ridiculous and certainly more to do with the 2005 vintage, which is incredibly tannic and really slow to mature. There is no reason to touch this for another 5 years.

I recalled having this last year which was one of the first few burgs that got me started in the maze of burgundy. This is just as good as it is. Fine aromatics of red and dark cherries and vosne spices. Medium to full bodied flavors of rich mouth coating red Pinot fruits and spices with a silky texture. Still quite firm with a good structure, very fine tannins and a lingering finish. Definitely punches above its level. This is at the start of its drinking window and will last for years to come.

Dark ruby - darker and less translucent than is typical of burgundy. Floral, spicy nose with blackberry and red currant notes, again not typical burgundy (no "farmyard" earthiness), but a lovely, friendly bouquet nevertheless. Balanced, full bodied flavours, spicyness continues in mouth and plenty of Pinot fruit and mild acidity on the medium finish, not at all overwhelmed by silky tannins. This wine is drinking well now but will probably improve with age for 3-5 years.

First Wednesday Wine Group (Coral Gables, Fl.): Tasted with a Burgundy expert and we both agreed that this wine has not matured into its potential yet. Medium to light body, soft flavors, not well balanced. Not what I expected at this point.

Still a light bodied wine, but becoming more elegant, velvety. Flavors are maturing and tannins are well resolved. Light flavors. One hour decant needed.

The most expensive of the Wine Society 2005 Burgundy villages case & the most disappointing. I agree with the other recent reviews, too bright, sharp, tannic for me despite 2 hrs decanting, need to wait longer

Still waiting for this wine to be ready. Tannins are unbalanced, very tight with high acidic. Flavors of dark fruits is nice, but cannot compete with the tannins and acidity. Will this eventually transform into the wine it is supposed to be? We will see.

At first some delightful red fruit but they quickly faded and gave away to dark fruit and concentration. This wine needs to loosen up a bit, it will require a few more years in the cellar before it is ready for my palate. The material seem okay and it should turn out just fine.

Popped and poured. All black fruit aromas with faint spice hints. Very firm black cherry and blackberry flavors, still quite tannic on the palate, even after three hours. Impressive concentration and raw materials for a Villages level wine, but this still needs a few more years.

Drank with Matt N and others at Thalassa. Very closed in my opinion - shut down as many 2005's are right now. Showing a little wood, flowers, and dark cherry fruit. Big on the palate - showing a lot of force, but again very tightly wound - good acid, dark cherry fruit, wood, and some minerals. Nowhere near as impressive to me as the 05 D'angervilles - this is less showy now, and also not as much potential either. Very hard to judge at this point. Matt seemed to get a lot more from it than I did.

Out of 375. Nowhere near ready to drink. Black cherry fruit profile, with some black tea notes. Nose starts off bright but fades with air, palate does the opposite. Good ripe black cherry on the attack, but the fruit fades in the midpalate as the structure takes over. This has quite a bit of structure and is still very tightly wound. Some rich food helped. Score is for how it drinks now, but I think there is ample material here for serious improvement. Put this away for at least a few years.

1st of a half case just out of bond. This immediately looks v serious for a village wine. Colour deep and bright. Confirmed on the nose as a serious wine with ripe but reserve fruit and balanced new oak. Moderate weight and a lot of tannin. Closed. Definitely well above village quality and with years ahead--5 even 10. Maybe will always lack a little subtlety or complexity. I look forward to drinking alongside the 02 which has been excellent now for several years.. This may well be better. Whets the appetite for the more grown up 05 burgs! Completely different beast from the gentle New World concoctions.
