4th from 6 bottles, just stellar, paired nicely with sushi and sashimi. Citrus, orchard, slate, chalk, zing, long finish, tart acid. Everything I love in Vilmart. Drink this bottling through 2030 or so.

This rendition of Grand Cellier d'Or is really excellent. It has come together over time, but is really performing at a high level. There are notes of toasted almond, marzipan, and lemon confit. It has plenty of layered complexity and has aged quite well in bottle.

3rd bottle from 6 purchased, this is just simply amazing. Enjoyed at Thanksgiving dinner, and afterwards while playing some board games with family. Bright and incisive, with sharply delineated citrus flavors, green apple, saline, and kiwi. The acidity is puckeringly sharp, not for everyone, but I love it. The finish is long and citrus-laden. Drink this GCdO through 2030+. Just ordered some mags of this cuvée.

Holy deliciousness. 2nd bottle from a 6 pack, this was DG 07/2018, the cuvee is 80% Chard and 20% PN, no malolactic fermentation. Creme brulee and vanilla bean flavors, alongside green apple and citrus fruit notes, with a mineral and chalky finish, bolstered by firm acidity. This vintage Champagne is brilliant, and a perennial favorite of mine. Drink through 2028+.

Barolo Dinner (Mathilde Bistro - SF): Lemony, bright, with a touch of brioche and pastry. Excellent balance and length. Friendly and dangerously gulpable, but with a nice spine of tension. My favorite of the champagnes tasted and a great way to start the evening.

September 2018 disgorgement. Served side-by-side with the Coeur de Cuvee (both done blind). 80/20 Pinot Noir/Chard. 7 gms of dosage. The nuance between the two wines came through for me in the flight. While the CdC was more powerful and concentrated, the GCdO was more honeyed, juicy. Initially I thought there might be some TCA but that impression faded and disappeared, replaced with what I described as grated lime/citrus zest. Green apple, honeyed lime, tangerine (both flavors were in the CdC, just more richly expressed in the GCdO). Candied lime, with what I felt was a finish of good length. Retasted this morning, poured from the open bottle that was not sealed overnight. Definitely can taste the Chardonnay that is anchored in the wine's composition, and most of note, the acidity really comes through this morning. Almost racy intense. This wine had some detracting comments about it when we went around the table last night, broadly about presence and depth, but in tasting it just now again, I'm not sure those comments would get lobbed based on how the wine shows this morning. Like with 2014 Coeur de Cuvee, there is energy here, mainly acid driving it, kind of an electricity.

Champagne In My Backyard: Disgorged September 2018. I pulled this towards the end of our larger tasting, it saw no air and went right into glasses. Lime skin, tangerine, yellow apple and chalky, which helped to tighten the wine. This showed the flavors I expected but the tension was evident, too. Needs air so be patient if you open.

Comparable to a Krug (to which I gave a 100) we had years ago. Refined, soft on the palate, complex, elegant. Lively bubbles but not aggressive. An absolute delight to drink. At peak for me and Mrs Ozziewine. It has years to go but potentially at the expense of the verve this displays today. Best Vilmart we've ever had.

Brought to a large gathering. No formal note taken; going from memory.
Citrus with lime and tangerine showing prominently over green apple and toast. Medium+ weight, decent acids. Should age nicely though I don't have a lot of experience with this producer with age. Fun to try!

September 2018 disgorgement again (this time from my buddy's batch). Opened yesterday and I didn't get the stopper to the bottle in time so this is now still, sans CO2. I can offer that this bottle took some time to open up last night, as it started off a little dumb but after an hour, the structure emerged, as did the acidity. Roll forward to today, I would say a testament to how good this wine is (at least to me) is how well it shows as still. All of the components play so well together. Tangerine, lime zest, apple, and a really beautiful mineral note gently rolls across the finish, like a slate. You could pour this for me blind, and I may put this on a really good, finely balanced CA Chardonnay where the wood is judiciously used, yet the acidity and freshness is very present, expressed in a medium weight. For some, I suspect the acidity/citrus will feel dominant or out of balance, yet I don't view it this way. There is fruit here to complement the acidity. I've written enough about these wines from Laurent Champs, and this cuvee across many vintages. It's a superb example of why I drink so much Champagne these days, and why I find red wine more and more in my rear view mirror.

Opened another of the September 2018 disgorgement. This stuff is just banging. 3 of us crushed the bottle in 30 mins time. Pretty much like the last one where the richness is offset by the acidity, packed with flavor. These GCdO cuvees are just a killer value.

This is the September 2018 disgorgement, from a case we bought in Chicago last month. These were backfills, to get my inventory back to a level I could start aging a few more of these, yet share a few with friends during tastings. We took this to a meal with friends last night, I was able to save a glass in the bottle and bring it home for retasting tonight, so it's had a full day of air (under stopper). Gorgeous stuff. The flavor that this cuvee continues to exhibit vintage after vintage is a real treat for my Champagne palate. Citrus and fennel aroma. The palate is a winner, flush with tangerine, lime, golden apple and wet stone, and perhaps this may sound odd, but the Pinot Noir contributes a cranberry nuance that really brings it all together. Finishes with some pastry crust, lime zest, honey and orange flesh that is racy and bright. Backflling these (and we did the 2013 the month before, and it's probably time to chase down some more 2015), it's just a great wine to have in the cellar given the concentration, expressiveness and joy I get from the cuvee time after time, vintage after vintage.

I was eager to try this producer but I also think this bottle would have been better with a bit more time. Still, intense nose of golden fruits, hints of honey and anise, rye bread. On the palate golden apples, sharp lemon, some slight creaminess although racingly acidic on the back end. Fine mousse and plenty of it. I am really enjoying this but I can’t help thinking it has even better days to come.
Complex Champagne that tastes more like still wine with fine bubbles. Notes of honey, green apple, apricot, biscuits, and tangerine. Long finish and good finesse.

light champagne color, endearing nose of apple and citrus, slightly sweet and earthy, on the palate mousse just starting to form, primary and racy fruits, ripe on the middle but lean and elegant in tone, taut, berry notes with time, classic, my kind of champagne.

oh god, this was good and likely I need to grab a few more while they are still around. Disgorged June 2018, 80% Chard and 20% Pinot Noir as usual with GCdO, plus 7 grams of dosage. I have had several bottles of the 2014 up to this point, this one the best. For some reason this time, I got structure and spine in this bottle, more linear and focused. Apple, touch of saline and some tropical fruit with a lot of concentration. This bottle was excellent and speaks to the ability of the vintage to keep aging.

June 2018 disgorgement. 80% Chard / 20% Pinot, and I think 4 years sur lie, as usual. Sexy is this vintage, with a richer styled orange citrus, honeyed yellow apples and ginger candy, and perhaps a kiss of pineapple. Enjoyed this, it's more forward, yet it retains the consistent acidity that for me makes Vilmart top shelf.

Much less doughy than my previous experience with this wine. Holding for another couple years may prove to be a worthy endeavor. More freshness and a nice hit of acidity balance-out the otherwise fuller profile here. Those looking for a zero dosage or the stricter side of Extra Brut kind of experience need not apply. This is not an especially electric or vivid expression. The style here is more bread-driven and richer than I personally prefer, but the quality is evident given its class. Perhaps a little pricey for what it delivers. Still, it's a crowd-pleaser for sure. Hold remaining bottles for a few years.

Nose: Young and a little shy. But beautiful. Shimmering, golden grape, light toast, lemon confit, and oyster shell.
Pal: Intense, immediate strike. Excellent concentration and richness. But youthful, low dosage, very high acid finish. Very tightly wound right right now. Would benefit with up to 10 years age in a cool celler.
91: now 93-94: with age.
Disgorged June 2018. 80% CH/20% PN.

Following a 16 Adrien Renoir, this showed quite a bit different in style. Broad and yeasty (or was it the pizza dough in the background?), this was really delicious. Yellow apples and orange flesh, I enjoyed both the weight of the wine in fruit and good expansiveness on the palate. If 14 is like 12 with a little more ripeness, you can color me a big fan indeed

More vanilla and dough-driven, which pushed the yellow citrus and white stone fruit to the rear. The 7g/L dosage came off a touch more than I’d personally prefer, especially rounding off the finish. I was looking for more cut and verve, but otherwise it’s a tasty and agreeable bubbly. I’ll hold remaining bottles for now. 91+? points.

80% Chard, 20% Pinot Noir. This showed well, and of the 4 Champagnes, this was the most generous. The typical bright acid, lightly toasty with a good density and a bright citrusy finish.

Opened yesterday. Disgorged June 2018, 80% Chard / 20% PN. Delicious bottle, with golden apple, white flowers, tangerine and the same stony texture as the bottle from February. Finishes with lime, mineral and note of honey. The marriage of opulence and minerality, which is for me the Vilmart signature.......my wife and I finished the final glass tonight, a full two days after we had first opened the bottle. The wine is still displaying a fresh cut pippin apple, just as if I had cut slices right off the fruit. Then, a beam of lemon cutting right through. Delicious.

Nose: The nose is deep and complex, filled with red apples, quince, spiced pears, vanilla beans, brioche, custard, acacia flowers, saline, lemon curd, and freshly picked mint. There is a lot of freshness and verve to the tones while having an autolytic base.
Taste: The feel is Medium+ bodied with tart, high acidity. The feel is well textured, balanced, and deep with red apples, quince, spiced pears, vanilla beans, brioche, lemon curd, saline, and mint notes.
Overall: There is a lot to like about this already with its fresh fruits and doughy notes across the nose and palate. The acidity has a youthful streak to it, but it is well integrated and balanced. This feels like it can age for 8+ years but it is also expressive and fresh right now.

First bottle of four. 80% Chard / 20% Pinot Noir. Opened this last night, finishing today. There is evident structure here, and the dosage that I notice in the 2013 seems well integrated here, with the wines acidity and stony notes being more prominent. This is a very good vintage for GCdO.
