This had distinct green bell pepper notes; gooey, rich mouthfeel, ripe sweet attack, very oaky but with very tangy long finish. Thought this would be Cab Franc/Paleo Rosso. This is way too young and too oaky. Not sure the oak will integrate at this point. This was my last place and the group's as well. Tuscan blind Dirty Dozen at La Paella. ranked: 10th out of 10 wines. 80% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. I guessed '16 Tuscan Cab Franc

At family dinner, Blue Mountains, NSW. This terrific wine remains very primary with a deep dark crimson colour and a nose of dark cherries, blackcurrants, creamed cassis, autumn spices and dark chocolate. The palate is richly textured with deep fruit characters balanced by lovely savoury touches of herbs and tobacco. There are plenty of fine tannins but the finish is like gentle cashmere on the palate and persists long after the wine is swallowed. A wonderful vintage for the Tig !
[Restaurant purchase] Off the list at a good price at restaurant Coppola d’Oro, Marche, Italy. PnP, no decant, probably a bit too warm (as it was still 30 degrees+). Medium+ intensity with cherry, dark plum, cranberry, blackberry, ceder, some leather. Medium+ acidity, medium+ tannins, long finish. 93++. First signs of aging are appearing, curious how this will develop
Exceptional wine, enjoyed with a wonderful Bolognese. The wine is dark and intense with polished tannins that are luxurious. It seems to be a proud wine, balanced, long and holding restrained power. Black cherry, subtle oak, black tea running start to finish with hints of black licorice and tobacco. Definitely a wine to spend time with.
SUPERBE!

Super Tuscans - Berry Brothers; 6/28/2023-7/28/2023 (St James St, London): Dark ruby red and still very bright. Warm spicy nose, soft black cherries but structured, cassis and liquorice. Flavours are superb, tannins structured but fine. Excellent wine, perfectly framed with dusty tannins and forward fruit. Lives up to the hype.

Again from half-bottle. The Tig didn’t get much help tonight: the menu skewed light/fresh and the preceding wine was especially fruity.
In any case, this (half) bottle didn’t open in the same glorious manner as the last and the tannins were less integrated. This one could be entering a more muted phase.

$100 wine event (Liz's House): A 3 hour decant. This was bigger and meatier than the 2015, but had less complexity. Purple fruit, very full-bodied with a lot of weight right now.

$100 Plus Tasting Year 2 (Minneapolis, MN): I liked this better than the group and this has more aging potential than the 15. Nice perfume, funk spice, Chesnuts, tobacco and earth. Featuring dark fruits. While young shows great long term potential. Drink this through 2032.
Drank right out of the bottle. Dark purple with notes of cedar, cherry, tobacco. Awfully bit with firm tannins at the moment. Needs either more time in bottle or a long decant. Should develop nicely with time.

Briefly, opened 6 hours before drinking, decanted for the last hour. This is a wonderful wine- rich fruit on the nose, a palate beautifully balanced, with a lengthy finish, all in perfect harmony. Superb QPR at the ~US$99 that I paid.
Slightly subdued nose but then nothing subdued about the wine. It’s flat-out beautiful. Deep, brooding wine with notes of black currant, black cherry and oak. Black tea runs start to finish, yielding to licorice, tobacco and earth on the finish. Nicely balanced, with moderate but slightly rough tannins that linger with the acid for 30 - 40 seconds. I’ve been drinking Tignanello since the 1997 vintage and this is the best. Good on opening but remarkable at the four hour mark.

Opened way too young I guess. All oak notes on PnP - but much better after 3 hr decant. Plum, blackberry jam, black pepper, tobacco and green pepper, but like a really delicious velvety green pepper that’s been braised in mole sauce or something. Have the opportunity to pick up a few more bottles at a good price but I’m undecided.
Decanted 2 hours, followed over two days Very energetic nose with a lovely depth. Dark cherries, worn leather, saffron, crushed rocks, damp earth and bell pepper make for an impressive nose that kept on giving. Nice balance between the high acidity Sangiovese and dark fruited Cabernet. The palate is close to full bodied, fine tannins, this is actually drinking very well already. The slightest hint of warmth on the long mineral-infused finish.
Even more extrovert on day 2, which bodes well for the future. Very juicy red fruits and a more pronounced spiciness compared to day 1. Still a slight touch of heat on the backend which prohibits an even higher score.
This vintage of Tig is electric, with notes of black currant, black cherry, cigar box and saddle leather leading the way. Hints of oak weave in with air. Rustic and modern at the same time, and with added freshness from lively acidity. Brisk tannins also emerge late, lingering on the long and powerful finish. A contender for my WOTY.
Drank with Serge, dekanted for more than one hour, it was beatuful, cassis, dark fruit, "sweetness" - interesting to see qwhat itll be like when its more mature - fantastic!
Cassis, ripe red cherries, plum, some mocha and dark pepper. Good complexity and depth. Fruit driven style. Nice balance. Lovely medium long and savory finish. Drink now until 2032. (IG)

Restaurant purchase, short 40 minute decant before dinner.
A lot of fruit on the nose, very ripe. Plums, blackberries, cassis on the front and the notes of wood, leather take a backseat. Tannins give the wine a very good structure. A bit primary for my taste. Nonetheless, an excellent wine, 92-93

Deliciously intense with lots and lots of fruit: cherries, blackcurrants, ripe strawberries. Also that unmistakable Italian feeling with warm herbs, pine needles and roses. Medium acidity and tannins, very good balace. Young of course and lacking some complexity but oh so yummy! Great stuff with an even greater future. Wish I had a case or two in the cellar.

Surprisingly approachable right from the off. There's serious power here but it never overwhelms. It shows initial restraint but then builds and builds with layers of rich mocha, stewed strawberries, a lick of thyme, a touch of black pepper and a long dry, mineral infused finish. The tannins are ripe and will benefit from a few years lying down but this is certainly very enjoyable right now and a lot more open than I expected it to be. A great bottle of wine that will only get better. 95 now with 97+ potential.

My oh my... thanks for the generous sharing, KN. Loved this Tig 2016, which marked my first ever Tignanello experience!
This Tuscan (once again no one guessed this right at our blind-taste) demonstrated refined oak, vanilla and cherry notes, and the young sharpish tannins indicate a healthy lifetime of cellaring ahead.. mid 2020s perhaps?
Chinese New Year CNY gathering at my home (SKT, DQ, WMK, EC, KN, Mika & JY) this Year of the Tiger 2022. Our wine gathering had a theme of Italy v France just like in the 2006 World Cup Finals, and the score for this 3rd battle was a tie with WMKs GPL!

A terrific evening of 2016: Saffredi, Tignanello and Argentiera. The Tignanello was unanimously the third best . A superb wine nonetheless, the only one of the trio not ready to drink. Probably best to wait at least until 2026.

Spectacular — This is a little on the young side. We decanted through a filter and let it breathe for 30 minutes or so. Rich fruit and earth flavors; superior wine making. Superb. Drink or hold for 10+ more years.

Arguably one of the best vintages of Tignanello to date! Glittering, ruby red and dense in appearance. Classy nose delivers fruity blackberries, black cherries, plums, violets, tobaccco, spice and earth. Palate is full-bodied, bold as always, vivid acidity, firm tannic structure, lots of energy for the new year, juicy and silkier on days 2 and 3. World-class 40+ sec tannic-dry, saline, sappy and spicy finish. Very harmonious today, obviously huge ageing potential.

The one was Garnet a big brown at the core and lighter at the rim The wine had medium viscosity and was in good condition. On the nose there was Brandie’s cherries , chocolate , coffee cedar and Chinese five spice. On the pallet it was well balanced with medium to high acidity medium tannins medium alcohol and medium bodied . I tasted chocolate mocha cigarbox leather and no fruit at all and it had a long finish. I really enjoyed this wine!

Dark, sour cherries, red fruit and oak. It’s remarkably well balanced yet young. Just the right level of acidity, gripping tannins and a long finish. Generally speaking not crazy about most Italian wine, but this one surprised me in a very nice way! I had it with pasta and game ragout, and it worked perfectly.

What can you say..... You will not easily get a better super tuscan. 2016 top of the bill year of course. Great meal at Restaurant Loewengrube in Bolzano with our best friends. And then coffee with Tignanello grappa!!!! Too late in the evening now too give a serious review. Maybe tomorrow. Cheers to you all.
Beautiful, almost raisin-like nose. The palate shows a vibrant acidity, plums, dark cherries, grippy but already refined tannins, some oak. An amazing, well-made wine from a top vintage.
Medium ruby color On the nose there is a nice mix of red fruit - raspberry, cranberry, cherry and the dark expression from the Cabernet - blackcurrant, dark cherry, herbs and a bit og spice. After a lot of air a bit of leather aswell. On the palate it has a beautiful structure. Lean but open, considering the age. Great power but a friendly tannin which is hanging for some time. Looking forward on opening a bottle in 5 years. High acidity Medium+ tannin Medium alcohol Long finish
Ordered off the wine list at Bell and Anchor. No time to decant and needed a few minutes on ice to come down to cellar temp. I was pleasantly surprised by how open and expressive this was... my experience with older vintages of this wine had me worried this would be tight and closed down at this stage, but I found this to be quite good right out of the bottle with no air. More fwd and less rustic than I expected, we enjoyed this a lot.

SLDS May 2021: Red berries, cherry cola, dusty earth - youthful with good energy. Plushly styled on the palate, plenty of red and black fruits. Good length and plenty of potential on this one.

Enjoyed this at Antico Posta in Atlanta with a thick cut veal chop and pasta with one of my daughters. Decanted prior to dinner. I’ve had prior vintages of this, but honestly, this was absolutely stunning. Still youthful with lots of unresolved tannin and acidity, but the fruits are there, and the food was a perfect match. Finishes strong and long. Many years of cellaring ahead for this...a definite buy.
Deep ruby red, almost black at the core. Aired 2 hours. Nose dominated by Sangiovese in the beginning: red, sour cherries and some vanilla. After a while in the glass - and when heating up from 12 degrees Celsius - tones of cabernet become much more prominent: blackberries with a hint of eucalyptus. Fascinating. Medium to full bodied, very high acidity in the beginning, silky tannins, beautiful fruit from beginning to end: blackberrries, blueberries, eucalyptus and sweet cherries. The aftertaste is dry and fresh, with a pleasant cherry stone bitterness. Very long. This is just a great wine, balancing power and finesse just perfectly. Also a perfect balance between CS and Sangiovese. Probably the best Tignanello I have tasted so far. And it has a great future ahead! Will earn a higher score in five years or so, and will probably provide great drinking for the next decade and more.
Got a couple of bottles for under US$100 each, and felt I had to taste it now, young though it is. (Tignanello has some sentimental value to me as one of the first upmarket wines I tasted a couple of decades ago.)
Decanted for 4 hours; drank with a simple steak with a mushroom sauce and risotto.
On first opening the tannins were a bit dominant and rough, but 4 hours air smooths that out and then the wine is very approachable. Dark berries, cherries, just a little heat on the nose. Smooth (dark red) fruity entry on the palate, then a little jolt of acidity, mellowing into a quite long drying finish.
It's very nice indeed, and drinking very well, but, as everyone else has said, will, hopefully, gain some complexity in the coming years.
As to QPR, well I think there is a bit of a premium for the name, but not outrageously so.
Agree with other notes. Very drinkable for one so young and we drank straight from opening after a short decant. Tannins are present but soft and don't get in the way of the multi-layered dark fruit and cherry. Might get a caee just to see how it develops over the next decade!
Wow-this is a young wine with an enormous amount of power and spunk. It’s surprisingly well balanced for such a young wine, though it is definitely lacking in overall flavor complexity at this point in time. This is bottle 1 of 12 and I won’t be opening another for at least 3-4 years. Buy this up and lay it down-you won’t regret it in time.
Well balance Super Tuscan with good structure. Wonderful nose of cherry and tobacco. I would’ve expected a little more complexity from this wine and look forward to tasting again in the future
Tasting note DAY TWO: The wine is smooth, easy to drink, and about as complex as your average $30 Super Tuscan. In many ways it reminds me of my early experiences with the 2004 Tig. Patience is required with this for the "wow" factor.
This is so good. It is a “wow!!” wine, for sure. Decanted for 2 hours. The nose is gorgeous. There is just the right amount of jammy fruit to put the palate at ease, which quickly hands over to balanced grippy acid and perfect tannins. This is a very challenging wine to drink slowly... you just keep reaching for more, effortlessly.
Really a beautiful Italian wine. Drank next to another spectacular Italian wine that is well known and I would put this one ahead of it right now. Just opened for an hour and poured. Loved it.
Deep ruby. Scents of clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, dried candied citrus peel. Some blueberries and violets with big enveloping vanilla and cedar notes. Medium full bodied. Cherries and bramble notes beam through on the palate with beauty and intensity. The sweet tannins are so incredibly melded into the wine that you might almost be forgiven for drinking this '16 now...almost. Oh, and needless to say, the acidity is in perfect balance with the rest of the wine.
I'd love to hear from anyone who's tasted a Tig vintage that was so approachable young, and what it speaks to its longevity.
Epic. The length and complexity of this wine is endless. Decanted 6 hours, enjoyed over 4 more. Could have decanted overnight and uncovered yet an even deeper profile. Surprisingly, this wine seems approachable now, though still an infant. Bright cherry, currant, mineral notes, spice, creamy all the way through. Astonishing. Oak, vanilla, subtle leather, forest floor and so much more. One of the best wines I’ve had the privilege to enjoy. I should let the other bottles age for a few years but I might not be able to wait!

Had at a 50th birthday celebration. Classic Tig Gorgeous on the nose and the mouth.. tannins were aggressive in the front of the mouth and smooth to the back. this was closer to being ready to drink thnt the 2016 Sassicaia we had side by side with it.. Id drink this every day if i could afford it. buy it hold it for a few more years.. or decant for half a day..
Decanted for an hour. Red / ruby color in the glass. This wine was ready to go. Intense black and red fruit aromas, with some cherry hints. On the palate, very silky velvety wine, with pronounced red berries, cherry and some dried fruit after taste. Medium body, well integrated tannins even this young, with plenty of acidity to make your mouth water and go after another sip. Paired it with chicken parm alla vodka and it was delicious! 2 more bottles to go that I don't plan to open for another 2 years at least. 96+
Ruby in the glass. Deep and rich. Raisin, gamy on the nose, which I have never tasted before. It is fantastic. Black cherry, blackberries, smoke, tobacco in the mouth. Tannins are smooth and at the end. Smoky and dry.
This is quite a dense wine, opens up fairly quickly. Darkish fruit. Cedar, sweet oak, truffles and the taste gives up some serious tannins and acid, well balanced, and there is a slight heat at the end. It reminds me of a melange between Pauillac and a Californian cabernet.

Black & red cherry, plum, violet, and cedar. Plushly textured with vibrant acidity and supple, polished tannins. Dark fruit and chocolate flavors coat the palate and offer excellent persistence. The 2016 Tignanello is a bit too stepped on for my taste but you can't deny that this is a very well made wine. (80% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet sauvignon, and 5% Cabernet franc)
Palate: Lovely bright acidity. Palate turns to great dried fruits after 15 seconds. Gripping tannins. Lovely overall structure. Even getting a citrus component. Very fresh. Tobacco. Oak. Medium body.
Finish: Terrific long finish. Lasts for minutes. Dried fruits.

This is clearly a quality wine. But a bit too big for my palate. And obviously not ready yet. Air helped to bring some balance to the wine, but it never became a fun wine to drink. Dark and deep fruit, imposing tannins. Definitely a food-wine. Don't touch for another 10 years at least. I'm scoring 92 pt for the quality in the bottle (with upside) rather than pleasure it brings today.

7 hrs slow o. Long story short, served in less than optimal glasses. Despite this, and despite the youth and aggressive tannins, this is shaping up to be a fantastic Tig. Cherry, pencil lead, espresso, burnt wood on the nose. Dark berries and maybe some candied orange? on the palate. Chalky tannins nowhere near settling down. Very solid acidic spine. Even with the limitations of the circumstances, feeling like I was missing half of what this had to offer, I expect this will be a glorious wine in a decade. Another ridiculously tasty crowd pleaser in the best sense of the term. Score: 93+. Relative to expectations: ++
This wine is evolving since my last tasting 8 months ago. Big dark fruity nose, spicy palate of licorice, and firm tannins that promise further integration in the coming years. This will be interesting to try again in a few years. Had over steak, rice, and kim chi in Seoul during quarantine.
deepest purple red color, after an hour of airing a lovely rich nose of cassis, dried herbs, a bit of bramble, blackberries, a firm chalk note, on the palate tannic but also with very present and forward fruit- notably blackberry and black cherry, vibrant chalk notes throughout and fragrant dried tea leaf notes with hints of rose petal on the fine long lively finish, this has the opulence and heft of the 2016 vintage as one finds in Bordeaux and Burgundy, I am not generally a fan of the "SuperTuscans" because some degree of terroir has been sacrificed in the interest of pure hedonism (the audacity of it- making a wine so that more people like it!) but I have always had a bit of a soft spot for Tignanello because it has a unique profile that many of its more expensive brethren lack, and 2016 is a most spectacular vintage at this address, it has the loads of joyous ripe fruit of the vintage- but also all of the serious structure, complexity and unique herbal profile that makes Tignanello special, this will surely mellow and improve some with age- but don't miss the chance to enjoy it young if you have a few extra bottles.
Great fun from First poor no decant required. juicy open delicious style with nice caramel blackcurrant raspberry notes. didn’t benefit hugely from time as was great from the start but hardened up about 3 hour mark. Peaked at 1 hr. overall delicious juicy enjoyable wine - great with food or solo.

The color is deep ruby. Delicious aromas of dark red fruit, spices, tobacco and wood. Although the Cab percentage is only 20, its presence is notable in form of an distant herbal scent which adds even more complexity. On the palate, the wine is full bodied with raw and intense fruit, gripping acidity and a long finish. This is a well structured wine that is built for a long life in the bottle, but it is absolutely brilliant now.
Dusty berry and blue fruits nose, with hints of evergreen. Palate is smooth and lush, with some oak, black and blue fruit, iron and tea leaf. Nothing ground breaking, mind boggling how the professionals can uniformly rate this above 96 pts . . . Sell outs!

Tasted blind. A seriously nice showing, probably the best Tignanello I had so far. Medium bodied palate, elegant with great Sangiovese typicity. I like the restraint and symetry here despite the youthfulness and ripeness.

Straight out of the bottle, the nose reminds me of the wonderful 2000/2005 left bank classified growths of Bordeaux, fragrant, balanced and layering bouquet of ripe blue and black fruits, minty chocolate, tobacco, crushed river stones, leather with a touch of sweet and savoury spices. Nothing stands out alone, every notes are in harmony, the new oaks are well integrated. This smells delicious and sophisticated. The palate is so rich and smooth with depth and extension all the way from the entry to a slightly minty mid-palate. But this is medium-bodied, it is not heavy at all. The tannins are there but they are fine and provide a supporting role for the rounded structure. The balance is quite amazing for this young wine. Transition to finish is already seamless and velvety with layers of flavours linger at the back of the throat. And I get all these without even seriously decanting the wine. You can drink it now if you want to, but I think it will greatly benefit from another 3-5 years in the bottle for the wine to open up even more, and this will be drinking beautifully for another decade. 96-98 pts.

I Coravin’d this FAR too early and can’t honestly give this a score. I had a 2015 Tignanello in Florence in late 2018 and it was a 94 pt wine even then.
But the 2016 is a different beast! It clearly has massive potential from the smell and the underlying flavors of dark berry, tobacco, leather and spice. There’s a lot going on here but it needs several years before i open the next bottle.

Excellent Tignanello with a great future ahead(94+). Bouquet of sour cherries, herbs, dark chocolate and ripe amarena Cherries. Full bodied with a very long finish. Time will tell, if this will be one of the greatest Tignanellos out there. Give it at least 5-10 more years. Drank by the glass when skiing in Alta Badia.

Far too young right now. Muted nose, we waited and waited for it to come out of its tight shell but never did, even with a 2 hour decant. Quality fine tannins and balance show a nice pedigree, but will not show for 5-7 years maybe. Tignanello has long been one of our favourites, but this vintage is one which we will revisit in a few years with cautious optimism.

Tasted at the Wine & Spirits Top 100 Symposium in NYC. I have a good bit of this in my cellar from other vintages, but this is the first I've tasted the 2016. 80% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc. Solid wine, potentially Excellent, but I don't quite get Galloni, et al with 98ish scores. This is very oaky with mixed black, blue and red berry compote underneath pretty hefty tannin. Needs 8-10 years before considering dinking this for pure enjoyment, rather than out of curiosity.
2 hour decant. Odyssey Characteristic Sangiovese cherry and red berries , but with depth , spice and some surprising secondary flavors. Oak tannin is still prevalent but in balance. This will become really interesting with maturity

Dark ruby, almost impenetrable. Decanted for 3 hours but still pretty closed, nose of dark cherry in alcohol, leather, pipe tobacco, dark chocolate, vanilla, cloves. Mouth is full and rich, very dense but refined tannins even at the stage, very long and elegant finish. Too young of course but you can feel the potential even at this point. Drink 2026-2040.

very surprised how good this is drinking now. Nose on black cherries, cedar, herbs, leather. Color is deep purple. In the mouth the wine is surprisingly well balanced. Tannins are medium hight but fine, alcohol is medium and acidity is medium high. Very dry mouthfeel. The taste is on cherries chocolate leather and spices. This bottle was opened 1 day ago and it is very drinkable. 2016 seems to be a good year for Tignanello!

Basser's Super Tuscan Tasters (Basser's): Very young wine. Notes of blackberry and some bell pepper on the nose. This needs time, unsure of how long this was decanted. There were a lot of good components to this wine but they are not hitting all together, somewhat angular. Tannin very much present. Finished tied to last out of six.

Dyp ruby, skinnende briljant Stort sett primær.

Sleek and racy, with a bit of a bite for a frame in its current state. A good degree of class, but somewhat primary in its execution at this stage. Black cherry, plum skin, wet cedar, embers, leather, and a hint of mushroom. Mid-palate rides a little high, with a finish that remains linear and chiseled. Needs time. Try again in 2023+.
I much preferred a ‘13 Guado al Tasso Superiore served the night before.
Pure class. Not as opulent as the 2015 (which was delicious) but this is more intense, balanced and complex. An hour of air really softened it up and wow really beautiful. Nice tannic backbone.
A ripe wine with sweet plum and dark cherry fruits. There's a hint of bitter chocolate, some florals and a little tobacco. It is complex, deep, intense and super long, carried by supple tannins. A very young wine but you sense the greatness here.

Really powerful and charming wine aromas with wonderful depth. Wild powerful red fruit, pepper, pencil tip and leather. Pretty full-bodied wine with a great touch that slides into a perfect mouthfeel. Deliciously concentrated red berries, fruit peel, coffee, heavier coffee and white pepper and a little Asian spice. Tends for weightlessness in the middle section. Very good acidity in the wine. Excellent tannin structure that provides perfect resistance. Long and complex finish. This will be an extremely delicious Tignanello in 7-10 years. The best Tignanello tested. 95 points
Clear deep ruby; clean medium plus nose of ripe cassis, graphite, barnyard, juicy red cherry, toast and vanilla; dry; medium plus acidity; high tannins; high alcohol: medium plus body; medium plus flavour intensity; pfn; long finish; outstanding; so tight - still a baby - score will likely improve with time
Complex, intriguing, elegant. Cherries and leather, excellent structure, delicate tannins, very pleasant even at this young age. I was however not blown away - had it at a restaurant and shared with 3 other people, so it went before it could properly open up. Will have to try again and letting it breathe a little more.

This is even better than the 2015. Tasted it as young as it is and full of fruity flavors. Time will soften the fruits and allow secondary and tertiary layers to arise. Drink it now or keep it for another 7-12 years

From a halve opened the night before, re tapped with ,60 left and kept in the fridge. Warming up in the glass. Glowing deep red similar to the 2015 Intense Sangiovese, orange fizz, rosemary... excellent length, slightly better than 15, more freshness...accordingly almost perfect structure. 95+

A very good wine, powerful, ripe, blue fruits, with apparent but well integrated oak lending it a silky vanilla kiss towards the finish. Finishes a bit sweet.

Visiting Rome and Tuscany; 6/18/2019-7/2/2019 (Lazio and Tuscany, Italy): A true tour de force, Antinori's 2016 version of Tignanello is perhaps its best ever. An opaque ruby blend of 80% Sangiovese, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Cabernet Franc, it is loaded with dark bramble fruits, cassis, baking spices, Provençal herbs, espresso and tobacco. Full-bodied, fresh, seamlessly alcoholic (14%) and with gorgeous purity of fruit, it wraps its flavors with substantial fine-grained tannins and a judicious amount of spicy oak. Dense on the mid-palate, it proceeds to a very long, mineral-laden finish. As good as this is now, it will benefit from a few years in the cellar. Thereafter, look forward to more than two decades of enjoyment. Drink 2023-2046.

Tasting at Antinori winery in one of their cellar tasting rooms. What a treat. Their new, beautifully modern (and sprawling) headquarters in Chianti should be on your bucket list. We had the following wines in order:
2017 Cervaro della Sala - A crisp and tasty white, but otherwise undefined. A fine starter but might as well have their Bramito for 1/3 of the price. Rating: 90
2015 Badia a Passignano - Tasted like the chianti that it is. Nothing memorable but tasty nonetheless. 89
2014 Pian delle Vigne Brunello - I’ve had mixed success with this Brunello over the years. It strikes me as highly variable among vintages. This vintage is fine. Nice balance but didn’t stand apart from the Badia di Passignano. 89
2016 Tignanello - Still young and undeveloped; but absolutely delicious. It totally outclassed the 2015 Solaia. This has always been one of my favorite Antinori wines because of its consistency and complexity. Fruit, earth and tobacco. Rating: 92 with potential 94+.
2015 Solaia - I’ve always found Solaia a bit overrated. It’s chianti location is supposed to make it less jammy and more complex than its Bolgheri counterparts; but I’ve never found a taste profile that says this wine should stand alone. It’s a great Cabernet with some Sangiovese notes. 2019 was also too early to drink this wine. It was jammy and well-balanced but will need some time to develop into something commensurate with its price. Probably a 90 with a 92+ potential.
2013 Muffato della Sala - This was delicious. We drank this with our lunch, and it was a very hot day. Fans, misters and Muffato allowed us to sit outside and enjoy the heat. Rating: 93

Very energetic nose with a lovely depth.

This Tuscan (once again no one guessed this right at our blind-taste) demonstrated refined oak, vanilla and cherry notes, and the young sharpish tannins indicate a healthy lifetime of cellaring ahead.. mid 2020s perhaps?

Arguably one of the best vintages of Tignanello to date! Glittering, ruby red and dense in appearance. Classy nose delivers fruity blackberries, black cherries, plums, violets, tobaccco, spice and earth. Palate is full-bodied, bold as always, vivid acidity, firm tannic structure, lots of energy for the new year, juicy and silkier on days 2 and 3. World-class 40+ sec tannic-dry, saline, sappy and spicy finish. Very harmonious today, obviously huge ageing potential.

On the nose there is a nice mix of red fruit - raspberry, cranberry, cherry and the dark expression from the Cabernet - blackcurrant, dark cherry, herbs and a bit og spice. After a lot of air a bit of leather aswell.
On the palate it has a beautiful structure. Lean but open, considering the age. Great power but a friendly tannin which is hanging for some time. Looking forward on opening a bottle in 5 years.

Score: 93+. Relative to expectations: ++

deepest purple red color, after an hour of airing a lovely rich nose of cassis, dried herbs, a bit of bramble, blackberries, a firm chalk note, on the palate tannic but also with very present and forward fruit- notably blackberry and black cherry, vibrant chalk notes throughout and fragrant dried tea leaf notes with hints of rose petal on the fine long lively finish, this has the opulence and heft of the 2016 vintage as one finds in Bordeaux and Burgundy, I am not generally a fan of the "SuperTuscans" because some degree of terroir has been sacrificed in the interest of pure hedonism (the audacity of it- making a wine so that more people like it!) but I have always had a bit of a soft spot for Tignanello because it has a unique profile that many of its more expensive brethren lack, and 2016 is a most spectacular vintage at this address, it has the loads of joyous ripe fruit of the vintage- but also all of the serious structure, complexity and unique herbal profile that makes Tignanello special, this will surely mellow and improve some with age- but don't miss the chance to enjoy it young if you have a few extra bottles.

Etter et par timer i glass hjelper betraktelig og mye av det grønne blåser litt av. Selvfølgelig alt for ung per nå og meste flaske skal ligge lenge. 91p, kan det blir 2-4 poeng mere tror jeg.

96-98 pts.

I was however not blown away - had it at a restaurant and shared with 3 other people, so it went before it could properly open up. Will have to try again and letting it breathe a little more.

80% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc on this Tuscan legend.
Really powerful and charming aromas with wonderful depth. Wild powerful red fruit, pepper, pencil tip and leather.
Pretty full bodied wine with a great powerful touch that slides into a perfectly masculine mouthfeel. Deliciously concentrated red berries, fruit peel, heavier coffee and clear white pepper. Excellent tannin structure that provides perfect resistance. Long and complex finish. The best Tignanello tested. 95 points.

Bought on Celebrity Equinox USD140 showed almost as well as my previous note with good fruit and pliant tannins and solid mouthfeel and good balance with acidity and tannins for a good length.

Glowing deep red similar to the 2015
Intense Sangiovese, orange fizz, rosemary... excellent length, slightly better than 15, more freshness...accordingly almost perfect structure.
95+

A very good wine, powerful, ripe, blue fruits, with apparent but well integrated oak lending it a silky vanilla kiss towards the finish. Finishes a bit sweet.

Colour of youthful dark purple with fading rim. Nose so voluminous and palate full and plush with rich tannins and delightful length - this is a Tig that will continue to please for years

Rating: 93
