Gracefully aged, it has smooth and mellow tannins. The Bouquet has some fruit and underwood. Good for barbecue and other grilled meat. Definitely still enjoyable.

dark red colour with a pale rim Stewed fruit, plums, on the nose - not too stewed though ,menthol and warm spicy notes Melty tannin and a creamy/ nutty texture like chestnuts, warm earth, cherry fruit and cinnamon. Mellow like a mature Chateauneuf. Takes on some leather and dark chocolate with time open. Good balance carries it's alcohol - 14.5% - well. Drink now

Black as a moonless midnight, with only a thin outer ring of red. Perfumed aromas of black raspberry, black plum, and blackberry fill the nose. Glides through the mouth on velvet skies. Overall, concentrated, delicious, refreshing, and endlessly savory.

Really not showing well. Has a synthetic candied fruit quality that is really weird. Juicy but no real structure. This wine as tough to find good things to say about, but maybe I'm spoiled. Probably also too old, but still somehow super fake-fruity....?
difficult to put a score on also.

Light and fruit forward. No structure or tannins to provide counterbalance. Light garnet color, raspberry fruit but like chewing gum. Disliked enough to discard and open alternative bottle.

Fourth note since 2007 and first in 30 months. Still drinking well. Dark clear garnet with salmon edges. Not tasting old, but it has taken on a dusty quality to the tannins most apparent on the finish. Plenty of fruit remains, plums, cherry and dark berries, with a grippy dusty character not previously noted. But the pepper remains.

Garnet, bricking at rim, ripe rad cherry with developed thyme, cherry pips, touch of black pepper, ripe cherry with pronounced herbal notes, full bodied with medium acidity and soft tannin, toasty oak and stingy alcohol. Very good example of Grenache based wine, up there with most CdPs. Holding up nicely but at peak now I'd think

Had this one with a rack of lamb take out on short notice. (Thanks to my employer for the overtime meal.) Thought I better drink this one last 05 so as not to feel guilty trying the 2010 before stocking up Very nice pairing. This is now fully mature with little tannin, but rather a smooth balanced wine with garrigue notes and a peppery finish. Very enjoyable still. Buying this one since the 2004 vintage has been one of my reliable purchases. I haven't had a bad bottle yet. Thinking seriously of increasing to 6 bottles for the 2010 vintage.

Decanted for 1 hour. Drank with a butterflied leg of lamb. Great QPR on this wine. Old school Rhone, soft tannins and dried fruit with a touch of white pepper. In my opinion at its peak. Drink up and enjoy!

Initially on opening, a suphurous, funky nose coupled with surprisingly yoiuthful garnet color. The funk blew off quickly, and what remained was delightful: smoky dark fruits, herbs, and flowers on the nose, marred by just a hint too much heat. Less compelling on the palate, but certainly enjoyable: peppery and earthy, but with substantial dark berry fruit and a faint hint of asian spices. Not profound, but absolutely competent - still-lively tannins, balanced acidity, medium finish. Very enjoyable.

This was surprisingly good. Popped and poured without food. Nice dark garnet approaching black in colour. Barnyard on the nose with a hint of cement dust. Fabulous dark fruits with fading tannins. I'll drink the balance of my bottles over the next couple of years.

Served without decanting. This wine is very accessible. Garnet color. Aromas of earthy fruit and sweet wood smoke. Medium weight and texture. Flavors of red fruit, black fruit and anise that linger. It has mellowed, or faded depending on your perspective, since the last bottle.

Medium red, cloudy at edges. Nose of bacon, chocolate, black/blue berries. Nose very pleasing and moderate. On the palate black pepper (!), meat, blackberries. Firm tannins but by no means overwhelming. Beautiful balance. Very ready to drink, probably peak but may maintain for quite a while. Quite nice, very pleasing. Moderate finish. Better than I remembered from a couple of years back. Great with steak.

Nose: Spicy and jammy red fruits with BIG white pepper and some mineral undertones. Palate: Spice and red fruits up front with sizeable tannins. Fruit is a little hollow in the mid palate with a medium to long finish. While the tannins might lead some to think this is still quite ageable my take is the hollow aspect of the fruit (an Isosceles versus an Equilateral triangle) leaves this another 1-3 years of potential. While a pleasant wine there are far more compelling Vacq offerings out there (see Sang de Cailloux ~ spelling?). Nose is the highlight on this one.

Another 18 months or so since the last bottle, and the third in 3 years, this is now a youthful looking maroon to crimson with meniscus edges. A clear pretty wine. Still plenty of grip but opens faster than the 12/22/07 note would suggest which is to be expected with the bottle age. Dark fruits abound in a medium bodied wine, and the finish still suggests chewing on old leather that has been recently doused in black pepper. No apparent need to hurry through these.

Very nice wine that actually could of been cellared for at least a few more years. This medium bodied wine that has a nice nose with earthy notes including pepper and spice at mid palate, along with a complex finish which included a very pleasant old oak cask taste.

Blueberry and other dark fruit, along with soil and a little tobacco on the nose. On the plate, tart fruit, barnyard notes, and . Thick tannins to the point of coating your entire mouth. Surprisingly, the acidity is not equally strong...providing a very interesting and unique wine. On the finish, red fruit and lead carry through for a nice, long finish. 89/90

Solid medium body wine and heck of a QPR at $15 on special. 80% Grenache, 20 % Syrah, 14.5% alcohol (but you'd never know!). It is different - visually ruby/garnet, lots of tart raspberry, strawberry, cherry cola , burnt caramel, coffee, cocoa, and licorice on both nose and palate when first uncorked. Though not as complex as the nose would imply, this wine is certainly not 1-dimensional, is drinking wonderfully right now, and is smooth as a baby's bottom with just a faint hint of spice/pepper on the finish. Next day more of the burnt caramel showing through and perhaps more of a twizzlers candy nose/palate. This wine is characteristic Perrin & Fils yet unusual even for a Vacqueyras, quite feminine, perhaps one of the smoothest I've ever consumed, enjoyable to drink, and agree with previous comments - OVER delivers at this price point.

Last bottle from an order 2 years ago. Just a wonderfull bottle that matured greatly since our first impressions. Moved from Tart and fruit forward, to more CNP-style. Rich and deep Grenache fruit and meaty tones. Color same, but nose had taken on greater complexity. I think this bottle is really coming into a sweet spot for drinkability. If you have some, then recommend you crack open for the Holidays!

Served without decanting. This wine is very accessible. Garnet color. Aromas of earthy fruit and sweet wood smoke. Medium weight and texture. Flavors of red fruit, black fruit and anise that linger. I have been drinking a fair amount of Gigondas recently to include a bottle or two from this same vintage. This wine is lighter in texture and not as vibrant. Is the difference the 25% Syrah, the terroir? At $20 it is also $10 cheaper. Seems like a fair trade. Would buy again.

Outstanding Syrah, with all of the markers - pepper, rich body, dry finish. Always good, this has really come together, and is drinking perfectly right now. Perrin's Vacqueyras is just the kind of French Syrah that kicks the Carica Kick Ranch's ... for 2/3 the price.

smphelps note on 6/3/09 said it perfectly. This wine is drinking perfectly. This wine opens up quickly now; before it took at least a half an hour. Leather and peppered jerky nose over dark fruit, and cocoa and pencil lead integrated into the flavors of raspberry and dried cherry, but not exactly jammy. Just concentrated. I've only 5 left. Waiting for a case of the 07 to show up. Except someone over there at Perrin went and raised the retail price to $31! Marc you got some 'splainin to do!

One and a half years after the first bottle, this wine has evolved nicely. The tight grip of the tannins has softened and the dark fruits are more accessable. Still a dark puple that opens with a burnt meat and old leather sort of nose. Still needs to be open for awhile to show well. Finish brings black pepper. Some mocha in the middle.

Nose of brett, boysenberry, raspberry, and earth. Palate with strong course tannins, quite drying in the mouth. Some cherry, tar and earthing coming through on the palate, and remaining steady through a medium finish of scorched earth and tobacco. A nice win that's really not really, I'm betting will integrate nicely over the next few years.

Beautiful red burgundy colors with a shine. Strong profile of ripe red berries on the nose(strawberry, raspberry) with some wet farm fields and floral character. Just a wonderful mouthfeel, and the flavors are piercing. Amazing for a very medium bodied wine. The flavors fall of after 15-20 sec, which removes the experience in tandem with food. Overall, I still like this bottle. Alot of bang for medium weight and very food friendly.

This wine is really only beginning to come into form. The reward of proper decanting is roasted cherries, tobacco, and just the right amount of barnyard on the nose. The flavors are quite complex; all the nummies that come from this terroir are here in a beautiful symphony of depth and character. AND NO COWBELL! Leather on the mid palate was there for the first swallow, but then swisher sweets smoke and tar showed up for the next. You could not spend $20 to impress your Molly Dooker and Silver Oak fixated wannabees any better way.

This is drinking great right out of the bottle right now, but certainly improved with a little air time. Good prunes, blackberry and pepper on the nose. Medium-bodied, good dark fruits, chocolate on the palate and easy-drinking. Not overly sophisticated, but this is a great everyday Rhone. I was a little weary of the 14.5% alcohol, but there was no heat here.

Elegant and stylish, strong tannins still dominate this red even after 3+ hours aeration, this will definitely be better in a few years - Dark reddish/purple, well concentrated with notes of sweet cherry, earth, leather and vanilla on the nose, excellent structure and balance, sweet and smooth on the finish with very good length (89 Points).

Red berries on a firm tanninc structure. Open 30 minutes before serving and it peaked roughly after an hour from opening. Fruit on the attack, very smooth mouthfeel and a long finish. Much better then previous tasting some 10 months ago when it took for ever to opened up and even then didn't let too much to look foward for. Dinking great rigth now but still as a couple of years left in it.

This is some tasty stuff. I just wish the price hadn't gone up so much in the last couple of years. Real strong black pepper, with some licorice notes run through the nose and palate, along with raspberry liquor. Has a real nice chewy, concentrated quality. A great alternative to a CDP if you're looking for something from the S. Rhone.

Consistent with last tasting although fruit was deeper than I remembered. I need to stay away from the other two bottles until 09, or purchase more. Nice Bergundy-Ruby red color. Red fruits, with grippy tannins. A little burnt rubber on the nose. It could use three to five years in the bottle for everything to come together. The quality that you'd expect of a Vacqueras from this vintage and producer, but nothing earth shattering.

This is a good wine. I enjoy it very much. It is floral but thick. It finishes a bit off balance, but it definitely worth trying. I would think this could be improved by being a bit more balanced on the finish but as it presents it is very nice. It does not send me back to the store to buy more but it is a fun trip down a red Rhone blend road. Overall, this would win the night at some tastings, but it would be embarrassed at others. Give this a shot if you can get it at a good price. Interesting for sure, but overall not an award winner.

Mixed opinions on this one as it's been so highly touted, it was very good, but not the wine that others claim it to be, we'll have to wait on the next bottle to see if it improves - Medium red in colour and concentration, strong notes of cherry, plum and oak on the nose, seems to be well structured with prevalent tannins on the palate, medium length (88 Points).

Bright disc. Opaque purple robe with violet rim. Clean nose, showing moderately intense aromas of raspberries, earth and smoked meats, with a whiff of brett. Full-bodied on the palate, with medium acidity, medium, slightly dry tannins and flavors which mirror the nose. The middle thins a bit and the finish is somewhat short. Drink now-12/12.

Decanted. Nice rich color but very dissapointing nose upon opening. Very primary at first. After about 2 hours the flavours completely changed showing dark fruits, kirsch, flowers, and a touch of anise and spice. Pretty much a general consensus. Good QPR, decent quality but wait 3 years before opening more.

NOSE: Notes of brush, garrigue, kirsch and spicy orange peel play nicely against a mineraly undercurrent and secondary notes of red fruit and funk.
BODY: a little bit of fine particulate matter suspended in the wine; deep garnet colored; medium bodied (lighter than the beastly tannic '04).
TASTE: seems pretty tight right now; much fleshier showing on Day 2; flavors of dusty blackberries and white pepper lead into a rear palate dominated by coffee flavors. Medium-long finish. A very nice wine...I think I slightly prefer the '04 over this one...nonetheless, this is a great QPR at $17.

Decanted for 4 hours, made all the difference from the first taste out of the bottle
Color-Clear, deep violet/purple moving to ruby at the rims Nose - Blackberry, Blueberry, Black Cherry, Clove Palate - Mirrors the nose, but in a subdued way, there are a lot of tannis here (less prevelant after the decanting time), but they provide a nice structure and a long, dry finish. Overall, this is a very well balanced wine, and one that says Southern Rhone, for sure!
I don't know squat about how to project a wine down the road, but my sense is that this one will be better with a few more years.
We had this with a chateaubriand in mushroom wine reduction and roasted root veggies, and this wine shined - it wrapped itself around the beefy, earthy flavors of meat, and was a beautiful counterpoint to the sweetness of the roasted veggies. Yum.
My only bottle, but I'll find more of this and put it away for a few years...

Lesser-Known Rhone Appl.: #10 and #14. the score is for #10 which was juicy and with lovely black fruit. the oak was strong but it should recede with time. #14 was much less impressive jammy and showing some heat. onver time #14 never came around to the level #10 showed on the first night - staying simple and unimpressive.

I would hold this wine for a while if I could. Otherwise decant for some time. Dark purple. Nose slow to open but ultimately you get the leather, burnt meat, black fruit and pepper. Firm tanins that suggest it will age nicely and soften. More approachable after being open a while.

Not profound, but absolutely competent - still-lively tannins, balanced acidity, medium finish. Very enjoyable.

Palate - Mirrors the nose, but in a subdued way, there are a lot of tannis here (less prevelant after the decanting time), but they provide a nice structure and a long, dry finish.
Yum.
