Explosive nose of grapefruit and passion fruit. Carries on through to the palate. Possibly at its most vibrant within an hour of opening. After that the long finish becomes slightly creamier and has a edge of bitterness. If it had continued in the same vein as the first hour, this would have been one of the most complete wine adventures of my Riesling life. It didn’t, but it is still very very good.

Alsatian Dinner 2/25/2017: Favorite dry wine of the evening. I would bet a lot of tasters would disagree, but I think this may still be on the way up. More 'white fruit' (white peach, white nectarine) than 'yellow'. Bright lively acidity that makes for really precise flavors and brings you back to the glass. Great wine.

10 years after Riesling tasting - 2006 (Villa Behr (Wendlingen, Germany)): Double decanted about 1 hour before. Clear, quite youthful pale golden-yellow color. Needed a lot of air and time. Nose was quite muted at the beginning and opened up with time. Very elegant nose with chalky minerality and fine yellow fruit. Really dry, very lean, focused and elegant. It was the most filigree wine in the flight. Lots of chalk, fine ripe pears. Complex and long finish. Needs a lot of air and has certainly potential for 5+ more years.

I so wanted to enjoy this, and I did. But I didn't get the heights that the professionals have. Lovely flavours of starburst and lime. Great acidity; but it seemed to lack concentration to me. However, it went very well with food - in this case pork chops with herbs and chilli.

Lys farge.

Litt tropisk frukt (ananas? banan?), kanskje noe karamell. Litt flat i munnen, mangler friskhet. Marsipan i ettersmaken, mandler og litt bitterhet. Gir inntrykk av å være på hell. Den strammer seg opp og blir friskere med litt luft, men er nok likevel over toppen.

typical Keller Kirchspiel in the nose, for Keller very fine and elegant, stone and tropical fruits as pineapple and passionfruit, still very young, no petrol signs, still on the fruity side, but with less concentration as usual. middle acidity that gives a good balance but missing a little bit the precise finish knowing from Klaus Peter. at least 5 more years but noz the strongest vintage of Kirchspiel 91-92

first time a Keller GG, similar in style, but ways better than their second wine from the same vintage which was my first Keller. more acidity, body, fruit and precise aromas, not a different wine but complete, and a wine that makes sense to drink. actually liked the citrus note it was giving in the back end to balance the mineral style. I think this is good stuff. decanted for 6 hours in the fridge. will easily keep+develop for the next 10 years on that level.

Colour: Yellow golden. Nose: Lemon, grapefruit, mango and a hint of a flower component. Not very mineralic. Again a bit of an overripe charakter. Palate: Creamy mouthfeel but no tension and power. Bland mid-palate and a short finish. Absolutely dissapointing.

Interesting wines on choucroute night at Sarah's. (Sarah's.): From magnum, chock full of rocks and minerals on the nose with sweet yellow citrus. I'm surprised by how plump and friendly it is on the palate. While dry, the stone and yellow citrus fruits show plenty of ripeness which has blunted the edge I find these wines to normally have. A little soft and unfocused, but that works for me. If you normally prefer your trockens on the screechy and austere side, you maybe disappointed with this one. B+/A-.

First impressions are pleasant, flowery and brightly fruited with a vivid stony mineral base beneath, but it becomes tiring to drink after more than a few sips. This is all about intensity and power; there's powerful acidity beneath and a warm alcoholic tinge to the finish, and the overall package feels rather charmless and dull. Not my thing.

Double decanted back into the bottle. Glass on the first evening was hard work. Extremely sour, but you could feel the minerality underneath. Left it for 48 hours. Bright yellow/gold colour reflected in a lovely, vibrant showing of honey, lychees and slate on the nose and palate. Dry, but laden with sweet honey too. At 72 hours, honey tones receding and leaving classic stony minerality but still a hint of slate, ginger and sourness on the finish.

Last bottle, opened and drunk over 2+ hours. Wonderful enticing nose, chalky, fruity, lemony, very much Keller. A little richer in taste, complex and changing, lacking perhaps a little in structure and acidity -- it actually had slight problems facing a fried fish with a compote d'oignons seasoned with an old vinegar and a salad of Puy lentilles with finely chopped vegetables and capers. Still a wonderful wine, though I believe the three following vintages are all even better. I don't see it as improving from here though it will surely stay fine for some years yet.

I had one of these a while back and it was much as Keith Levenberg described. In fact it was in a string of disappointing wines from Keller. Not bad wines, mind you, just middling. This wine steps up in the juiciness factor. Dry as a bone, but lightly sweet, sweet forest fruit hints, flowers, hint of anise, and a long mouth-filling finish. It has none of the youthful austerity that many of Keller's wines seem to me to have.

Drunk under suboptimal circumstances in the garden and after a too short aeration (half an hour double-decanting). Still a very likeable GG with complex and, perhaps, a little confusing flavours ranging from a chalky chenin-like nose to meat and a little noble rot, all with Burgundian roundness.

Dinner with great friends in Denver, Night 2 (Denver, CO): Light color, straw rim. On the nose quite aromatic, fruit dominates with very pure and clean pear and stone fruits, nice florality… no barrique to speak of, some stony minerality. On the palate off dry, high acidity, no phenolics, low alcohol. Could be some botrytis (honey) in there… no leesy, diacetyl, creamy notes. Very good balance, average length, high intensity, moderate complexity. Good finesse, texture… very Hessen. I like this style for Hessen which for me when kab/spat and above in sweetness is too soft… crowd pleasing style, very clean wine, lots to like, couldn’t help but think this needs time to show its true colors. I would give this 3-5 and try again… excellent tonight, has potential to improve.

Killler GG; sweet steely mineral on the nose; with an hour of air the palate opens up to reveal massive, succulent cherry fruit swathed in white flower minerality. Super red fruited white wine.
