Glorious Waterside Inn (The Waterside Inn, Bray): Great wine and one to hunt down. Testament to this is that it followed in the wake of the magical 1985 Beychevelle ( Papies 96) and sang too. Decanted and served and it was singing from start and impressively how ready it is now. Rad fruits, soft dark edge , just turning secondary, just so good at this stage as the fruit has a good weight and life and drives the wine forward. Granted this has a lot of life ahead but it’s just exceptional now showing a younger face but ever so welcoming. 95-96 and a wine to look for.

An easy afternoon with close friends (@ PdV): Deep and exclusive bouquet with cherries, dark berries, toast, smoke and vanilla. Same on the palate, beautiful dark fruits, laurel, licorice, complexity, beautifully fresh acidity and a touch of sweetness. Beautifully round tannin with a soft bite. Expressive. The wine is still developing for the better.

The 2006 Chateau L'Evangile suprised me. While not widely regarded as a great year, this managed to be my wine of the night. It was bold and fully mature with just a short decant required to open up the aromas of cigar box, tobacco, leather, and a backing of black fruit. The palate was just finishing its youthful stage and moving into a spicy, fruity, and bold experience. While not ideal for the very herbacious lamb of our dinner, this wine would be great with a less herbacious meat, as a digestive, or just pleasurable drinking. 94

The wine releases an intense and alluring aroma of ripe fruits, cassis, and black currant, with subtle hints of spice and tobacco. The wine is full-bodied and rich, with a velvety texture that is perfectly balanced by the wine's acidity and well-structured tannins. The flavors are complex and multi-layered, with notes of dark fruit, black cherry, and hints of chocolate and earth.

It was good, not bad, but not nearly up to the expectations I had. Tasted like most of the fruit and acid had been stripped away recently. It once had life and now its partially gone. But more importantly being only 16 years old, likely not at the top of anyone's list even when it was in its prime.
Beautiful and creamy bouquet with a touch of barnyard and beautiful dark berries, herbs and spices. On the palate a touch of sweetness in the start, dark berries, herbs, sweet spices, some chocolate, juicy acidity and beautiful and soft tannin with still a lovely bite. Great wine with still plenty of future.

Read a few people's notes that "this is past prime". Maybe these people didn't store theirs in a proper cellar, or maybe these people don't appreciate aged claret, because this was stunning and in its prime. I would suggest no further aging is required though.

Decanted for roughly 85 minutes after standing up for a week or two. Decanting wasn’t necessary since the modest sediment had gathered in the bottom of the bottle, but I would suggest decanting if pulling this straight from a rack without standing up first. This is a dark red trending toward purple wine with significant mouth- and teeth-staining capacity. On the nose, I get plum sauce, chocolate-covered cherries, tobacco, and a touch of heat. In the mouth, this is lush, rich, and layered, leaving lingering flavors of black and dark red fruits. The finish highlights the soft tannins and chewy character with a menthol trait. Overall, this is showing well now and is similar to prior bottles. It’s a good wine but perhaps falls just short of the expected pedigree. 92 points.

Popped and poured. This is a solid red wine with some mild sediment in the glass (there is a bit more crust left in the bottle). On the nose, I get dark cherry, plum, some slight forest, and a touch of rock — it is very serious on the nose. In the mouth, this is an energetic wine marked by dark fruits and good balance. The dark-fruited aspects continue on the finish, which is generally mouth-watering. Overall, this is a powerful but restrained BDX blend. It is showing well now, but can certainly age longer. I found it delicious. 92 points.

Dark, savoury plums, black fruits, liquorice, mint leaves bouquet. Tasted black fruits, dark berries, mint leaves, liquorice, wet forest floor, with a mint and espresso bitter finish. Silky and balanced without much edges. Nice long dark minty finish. Hedonistic. Enjoyed it. Ready now and good for many years ahead.

A Double Magnum perfectly decanted by Peter for Christmas lunch with the McCormick family and Simon & Di. Fine limpid appearance, a beautiful wine from the last of a trio of outstanding vintages in Pomerol. Remarkably smooth and elegant. Probably holding back some of its future complexities, but we wouldn't have noticed that on an occasion such as this (it followed vintage Bollinger, and Yquem '83 with the foie gras). Lovely.

Flash note. A flash note is one that I distinctly remember the quality/overall rating of a wine but can’t give specifics because the tasting note was not written at time of tasting.
2006 better than gets credit. Kinda like 2008. Good vintage to buy. I recall thinking This wine is pretty good, but needs more time so maybe drink starting 2018 or 2019. Highly recommended

Popped and poured. This is a dark red wine with some minimal sediment toward the end of the bottle. On the nose, I get cherries (both red and black), plum, wet earthy moss, mushroom, and some slight heat on the back (dinged a point off the score for this). In the mouth, this is smooth, with dark red fruit, blackberry, and some slight licorice. The finish is long, carrying the earth and heavy fruit through. Overall, this is a complex and enjoyable wine, but will likely improve further with time. 92 points.

Dark ruby with a hint of brick. Lovely nose of damsons and raspberries. Initially opens soft and round on the palate but after a couple of hours in the decanter the tannins really come to the fore and it turns into a bit of a bruiser. Lots of toasty oak still and just at the beginning of its drinking window. Really needs another 5+ years.

Decanted for 3hrs. This wine really started to strut its stuff. Nose has lovely sense of ripe red cassis, burnt toast, and cream carmel. It's tastes revels strawberries with cream, chocolate molten cake, and licorice. This wine has long way to go. Yet is balanced and tannins are shedding. I suggest it needs another 7yrs and will live well for another 25.

Powerful deep, dark and almost brooding, this is still quite young and tannic. There is a lot of ripe, fresh fruit, with loads of truffles, but you need to get past the muscular tannins first. Give it another decade and this should be a beauty.

Beautiful wine. Slow ox'ed for half an hour or so and drank over the following few hours. Garnet with slight bricking towards the translucent rim. Dark fruit, forest floor, pepper and herbs on the nose, a perfect balance on the palate with the acididity and also the Cabernet Franc keeping the round and dark fruit from the Merlot in check and fresh, fine tannins, some bitter chocolate on the long finish. Stunning Pomerol even if this bottle seemed very slightly corked on the palate. Can drink now but no hurry. 94+

I love Merlot! Especially the ones from Pomerol. L'Evangile gives you ripe blackberry combined with tobacco, cedar tree and pencil shavings on the nose. Palate is full of concentrated lush dark fruit with an incredible soft texture. The 2006 has a share of 14 % Cabernet Franc which helps lift the elegance. The Cab Franc is also felt significantly on the mid and back palate where it gives a distinct bel pepper flavor.

Passé en carafe durant 2H 1/2 avant consommation. Couleur cerise noire. 94-95?

The 2006 L'Evangile is a superb Pomerol in the infancy stages of its promising maturity. Displaying a tantalizing deep ruby core this thing of beauty explodes in the glass with fragrant aromas of cranberries, vanillin, mint leaf, led pencil shavings and damp forest floor. It is medium to full bodied, delightfully soft and unctuous and loaded with perfectly well rounded, silky tannins which offer the perfect backdrop for the thrilling flavours of spicy chocolate flakes, burnt tar and creme de cassis. The velvety finish is endless, putting the ultimate touch of elegance and finesse on this truly superb effort. This beauty is just starting to reveal its full potential, and will cruise comfortably in the cellar for at least the next two decades. A stunner!

A nice mix between modern and tradition, with luxurious oak, among other things. Initially with very dark fruit and with a touch of licorice, and by day 6 with very nice plums. This wine is a potential 95, given enough time in the cellar. A big step up compared to the 2007.

Molto lungo
Firm, fresh and fragrant, the nose pops with its ripe, dark red fruits, earth and cocoa aromatics. There is still tannin to resolve, but the wine is starting to open and come together, ending with a blast of ripe black raspberries, spice and dark chocolate. Produced from a blend of 86% Merlot and 14% Cabernet Franc, the wine reached 14% alcohol.

Medium to full body with a little amber on the edges. Intoxicating Pomerol aroma of dark fruits, lots of currants, espresso roast, cedar wood, light graphite, and notes of white chocolate. The palate was lush, had gentle acidity and tannic presence, but needed a bit more delineation to be great. Finished medium in length with dried fruits and round tannins. Not so young anymore, and starting to drink well. This wine will leave a striking impression of why Bordeaux is still loved by many.

A Long Wine Night (Various locations): Pop and poured. Took quite a while to open up. A bit tight. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, purple colour. Nose is clean, pronounced intensity, with aromas of sweet dark fruit and perfume. On the palate, high acidity, soft approachable medium+ tannins, full body, long finish. Flavours of blackberries and raspberries. Still tasting quite primary. Feels somehow younger than the 2007 I drank before. I think give this another 5+ years.

A 4 hour decant is a must, but to me this is the right bank equivalent of how I rate 2004 palmer. Hypnotizing nose, beautiful integration and a wine that leaves you simply wanting more. Blackberry driven, with red current, and sweet purfumes. 2017 Should be about right

Not a typical L'Evangile. 375 ml bottle. Popped, decanted and poured. Started off with substantive animal/barnyard notes, which evolved to prune. Almost overwhelming notes. Towards the bottom half of my last glass (at the end of the dinner), these notes "blew off" and the wine became more typical of the L'Evangile I have known and loved. But still not anywhere near as lovely as the 2001 I had awhile ago. Disappointing.

Wine Cellar - Bordeaux Right Bank (sort of) (Wine Cellar): (Tasted Blind): Medium garnet with an orange rim. The bouquet is notably earthy with chocolate, fungal qualities and blackberries. A brooding, full-bodied style that is moderately firm, big and muscular with plenty of extract. It seems almost too big for itself, resulting in a challenging wine requiring more time to fully develop and reach its potential. However, there is a suppleness. Finishes with prominent notes of stale chocolate.

93-94+

Dark, savoury plums, black fruits, liquorice, mint leaves bouquet. Tasted black fruits, dark berries, mint leaves, liquorice, wet forest floor, with a mint and espresso bitter finish. Silky and balanced without much edges. Nice long dark minty finish. Hedonistic. Enjoyed it. Ready now and good for many years ahead.

Lovely rich, round and komplex nose withloads of dark and red fruits, chocolate, leather and truffles.
On the palate rich, big and smooth but also firm and long. Great balance between generous fruit and balancing tannin with medium acidity, really nice!

Lovely.

Beautiful, luxurious and very exclusive bouquet with lovely sweet and oaky impressions as well as good ripe fruits. On the palate dark berries, chocolate, a mouth full, vanilla, cedar, dark and red berries like blackberries and cassis, beautiful acidity and tannin, some pleasant sweetness and a great length. Truly great wine with a great future of at least another decade. 95 -96

Forum Reunion (@ WB): Compared to the Haut Brion 1990 we had before this wine, this l’Evangile is still a baby. But a beautiful and complex one! Dark berries, great acidity and tannin and with a long future ahead. My next bottle not before 2025….I hope I manage…

92 points.

An easy afternoon with close friends; Saint Julien & Pomerol (@ FD): Extremely beautiful and complex bouquet after given plenty of air. Dark berries, herbs, mocha, nuts and some metal. On the palate juicy dark berries, chocolate, good acidity, some pleasant bitterness and overall a very harmonious wine which is in its early maturity stage now and has plenty of future. Based upon tonight’s tasting experience I bought a few, so there will be a follow up on this TN.

I suggest it needs another 7yrs and will live well for another 25.

excellent, many Pomerols from this vintage are really beginning to shine. Big and bold, liquorice all-sorts, a touch of menthol and beautiful dark fruits and violets. Will improve from here, but is drinking beautifully well.

A stunner!

Tobacco, leather, earthy notes with sweet raspberry. Very elegant, multilayered and precise. A surperb wine. Nice sweetness and a looooooooong finish. Still a baby that needs some more cellar Time or a good 2-4 Hours in the decanter. More to come in 5 years (i.e. 95+ pts)

A nice mix between modern and tradition, with luxurious oak, among other things. Initially with very dark fruit and with a touch of licorice, and by day 6 with very nice plums. This wine is a potential 95, given enough time in the cellar. A big step up compared to the 2007.

MASTER AIS BORDEAUX; 10/22/2014-11/30/2014 (HOTEL WESTIN PALACE MILANO): Degustato alla cieca. ( 80% Merlot - 20% Cabernet Franc)
