*A beautiful silouhette of a wine that I have enjoyed many times that screams Pauillac, Bordeaux, France, and now DRINK ME! Needs about 45 minutes to swell up, but then it deflates within 2 hours. Meanwhile, a beautiful expression of what we love about Bordeaux and old wines, laden in unsmoked tobacco and cellar stench, with a diminished amount of trapped delicate survivor fruit. We are clearly in bottle variation mode now, where there are survivors and thrivers. This one a survivor....Drink!

Quick decant for sediment, and the wine is a beauty. Very much alive with blackberries, currant, smoke and licorice, yet that mellow tertiary earthiness. In great condition and showed as a beauty.

Popped and poured, this showed beautiful aromas of smoke, black currant, thyme, camphor, and blackberry. Medium acidity, tannins fully resolved, a very elegant and refined bottle today that paired fantastically with NY Strip. Finished after about 2 hours open and still firing on all cylinders at that point.

Black currant, smoke, licorice, dried prune, bramble, cedar. Palate is medium intensity, finish medium. Very balanced and drinking well. Typical Paulliac but not as powerful as Mouton Rothschild.

Deep garnet in colour. Pronounced nose intensity with developed notes of wet forest, banyard, leather, toast, tobacco, smoke. Dry, medium acidity, tannin, alcohol and body. Medium+ flavour intensity and finish. Tietiary notes > fruits notes.

Second tasting in a month with consistent notes. Leather, smoke, toast, cedar, mushroom, wet forest, tobacco. Very distinctive leather and tobacco nose. The tannin had integrated well and with medium acidity. Paired it with Japanese sushi during the Covid19 circuit breaker at home.

Leather, smoke, toast, cedar, mushroom, wet forest with some hint of the wet board. The wet board nose gradually disappear with it breathes in the glasses. 1982 vintage seldom fail, indeed a very good vintage.

Medium garnet. Vegetal/earthy nose, black pepper, licorice, caramel, camp fire, pine, sour cherry. Slightly watery texture. Smooth but lingering tannins, enough acidity to balance. Maybe not beyond its prime, but not showing bright fruit. Good for fans of mature wine.

Mouton Rothschild vertical 1878-2002 (Old Swiss House, Lucerne): Poured from magnum. This was a great showing and testament to the 1982 vintage! Red berries still present as a fruit, but also horse stable and dried herbs. Surprisingly powerful on the palate where firm but well integrated tannins provide for a solid structure.

Mouton Vertical (Lucerne): From magnum. One of the better wines of the evening showcasing that in good vintages smaller houses can shine. Textbook aged Bordeaux with enough power, life and complexity to excite among its eleven big brothers we had that night. Not the most complex and delineated wine but a lot of fun to drink. 94+
TN: The nose was the best part with intense earth, leather, tobacco, slight brett and dark cassis. Medium+ intensity, clean and harmonious. On the palate some mint flavors, spices and fresh herbs complemented the bouquet. Fairly complex, fresh, molten tannins providing just enough structural support. Medium- finish.
Decanting: Double decanted. No prolonged aeration needed.

Nærmer seg så smått drikk opp-stadiet men var veldig artig: litt varm, moden svartrød frukt, lær, urter, overraskende slank men fortsatt vital, men litt begrenset lengde.

We lucked out with this bottle. Although the cork was fully saturated and moldy on top, it was removed in two pieces cleanly. The nose was absolutely spectacular: complex classic Pauillac nose of flowers, herbs, and tobacco. It's been awhile since I tasted its big brother, my favorite wine of all time, and certainly this baby lacked the complexity of Ch. Mouton, but what a pleasure to drink. A very pleasant surprise for a 34-year-old minor bottling.

A more impressive, fresher, and lively showing than the previous bottle. An attention grabber that is squarely in its drinking window. Drink over the next three years. 95-96.

God blessed 1981, 1982, and 1983 in Bordeaux. The 82' stature was loudly touted and well deserved, but the 81' and 83' are not talked about much. Unfortunately, this is a note on a bottle of 82' and not the others... HS fill, fully soaked cork. Stashing conditions could have been better, but still, this was an awesome wine once it woke up. Started out good, but slightly raisiny and just got better and better with air over 4 hours. Did not have the Pauillac stench that I was looking for when I chose it to drink, but it made up for that in exchange for sheer power and the sweet ceylon tea like, mouth coating and gripping finish that you get from younger wines.. (yes, a grippy 82'!)
Very refined and rather elegant in the mouth with sweet plums and dried sweet fruit and then, wham! The re-entry of the grand finish that went on for about 30 seconds. Glad to have many more of these rare and hard to find babies. DRINK or hold...

A lovely mature claret. Dark ruby red color, some brett on the nose with cassis fruit and wet forrest floor. Mushroomy palate, quite rich fruit on the cool side, cedar, leather and tobaco. A very nice wine.

One of the more interesting bouquets I have encountered. Stinky, mossy, funky, poopy and it was awesome! Good earth and meat on the palate and surprised still at it's elegance. Every aspect was masterfully integrated. A wonderful wine experience. 94-95. I tipped to 95 because of the superb bouquet.

Tasted over three days. Had previously sampled various vintages of d'Armailhac and this wine has the same rustic, gnarly, brambly, dank, meaty elements, in all the best ways, but it conveys them more elegantly. The wine is drinking beautifully, with still excellent acid, and fully integrated oak and tannins. It should hold well for several more years, but there is no reason why this should not be enjoyed now. A wonderful and highly informative experience. Thanks for sharing Eric.

My wine of the year so far. Beautiful and expressive nose of leather, cigar box, slightly varnished, raw almonds... Exhuberant on the palate with rounded tanins, tertiary flavours. Some acidity which might have indicated the wine would fall quickly. It didn't. Everything about this bottle was outstanding. Great '82 !

Cork was 95% saturated. Hazy blood-brick red color. Classic bouquet of cigar box, river stones, red currants. This taste came from the bottom of the bottle and was gritty with sediment. Not rated but a nice treat.

Brown Bag Wine Dinner at Two Chefs - Double Blind; 11/1/2011-11/2/2011: - Garnet color with fast forming legs. It's balanced with a medium body. Polished texture with a medium finish - Alvaro's wine in honor of Janet's Birth Year. (I asked Janet what did Delia pour for her birthday? Apparently an 81, as they had finished their 82's.)

Round, rich & mature. Has warmth and sweetness of 82's, but lacks some weight & intensity. Empyt on mid palate, but very nice, smooth, round with good length. A bit past prime.
