If you are looking for a great value Petite Sirah then Rosenblum is your wine. They do a great PS. Great nose and well balanced with a moderate-long finish. Even aged ten years this has sustained itself and has aged nicely into a delicate and enjoyable wine. Not many other under $20 reds are able to achieve this.

Not a wine designed to age, but after ten years, this one has gained some real depth and maturity that makes it a joy to drink. Still a bit of a fruit bomb, with intense flavors of dark fruits and lots of vanilla. But the fruit is more rounded and integrated than when young, there's a touch of madiera, and an extra layer of elegance. The flavors are still powerful enough to need a good steak, or other grilled red meat, or strong cheese to balance them out and tone them down a little. But properly paired, this wine is excellent now!

Nose: Vanilla, purple fruits, violet floral notes, baking spice, some black pepper. Mouth: Purple fruits, vanilla, mix of milk and dark chocolate notes, spice notes. The last bottle from a case we purchased in '07. Now I remember why we liked it so much: Good complexity, reasonable price (QPR), great on a pop and pour means you can open this any time you need a nice rich wine.
This would go well with any grilled foods. Chicken or steak. Just a solid wine.

Petite Sirah is a grape I'm not well acquainted with, but this seems characteristic of the variety. Here, the tannins are well-integrated, giving this inky purple wine substantial heft. All black fruit, as would be expected, but overall a very nice package, and drinking well now. As this is my first encounter with this wine, I never caught the earlier vibrancy mentioned by plitton, below, but I like this the way it is now; it paired very well with flank steak.

Not as good as last year, but still better than the '07, despite the plastic cork (the '05 has a plastic cork, while the '07 a 'cork' cork). Ripe, juicy, with soft to medium tannins. Decanting for 30 minutes tops. 85+

Blue berries, black berriesl back currants. Black as night! Sensing a trend here?!?! Lots of fruit on this nose. But also lots of alcohol. In the mouth, huge fruits. Reminds me of an Aussie Shiraz. Just a touch too little acidity to balance the fruit for me. Some licorice, some tobacco/leather.

popped to serve with braised short ribs. Nice as a pop and pour. Initial impression:
Color is opaque dark purple, lighter at the rim.
Aromas throwing off dark fruits, oak, black pepper, baking spices, shoe leather, hints of some vanilla. Nice nose that peels off in a few different layers.
In the mouth showing big, dark fruits, including blackberry and plum. The pepper and spice are present along with decent tannins that grab hold in the middle and hold on. Alcohol is present, but not out of line. Finish is long, consisting of dark fruits, chocolate and a little heat noticeable.
The wine continues to improve as it opened, until *poof* it was empty and I soon after fell off to sleep. The wine went well with the meal. I still really enjoy this wine, and glad I bought a case. Several more in the racks.

AWS White Clay Chapter - Petite Sirahs (Carol's House): Very dark wine. A little hot on the nose with lots of dark fruits, plum, raisin, leather and honey. Tastes of currant, hints of raisin and chocolate, nice acidity and tannins. Lingering aftertaste of raisin and chocolate. We liked this one.

Pronounced plums and tobacco. Thick, rich texture that's easy to drink, particularly paired with roast leg of lamb. This wine has put on a little weight. Although it has an extended drinking window, I think its unique character is best enjoyed young.

Huge wine. Pure raspberry and blackberry reduction on the nose. Almost too much but I dig that in a PS. Big tannins, gobs of dark fruit on the palate with a mouth coating texture. A little hot on the finish. A bit overpowering on its own but a great pairing with smoked ribs.

I've had two bottles of this. The first was a bit better - dark and big wine with plum and blueberry jam. Lots of concentration and flavor. Vanilla notes, too. Second bottle seemed a bit overly sweet, with a similar profile. A very interesting wine and worth trying.

Improved a bit in bottle from last time. Didn't decant -- let breathe for about 90 minutes in bottle. Consumed out of Waterford Mondavi Syrah glasses.
Very dark, nearly black. Very thick, impressive mouthfeel, great legs, delightfully extracted and intense. Blackberry liquer, black currant, some crushed white stone gravel, Bailey's, Cappuccino, hints of mint and milk chocolate. Very enjoyable wine at the price. Holds the alcohol surprisingly well.
This may overwhelm most food dishes. Save it for drinking with burgers, BBQ, pulled pork/chicken, brisket/pot roasts. This is not a steak PS -- it will overwhelm. This is definitely in the style of a high-end PS but is not quite there -- the tannins, though better than many Lodi PS, aren't quite what I'd want. The delicious fruit flavors are balanced by the mineral undercurrent and the surprisingly high acidity. I am not sure how this will age, but it is drinking wonderfully right now and will remain delicious for a few more years.

Dark, ruby red color. Nose was better about 1.5 - 2 hours after opening. Aromas of Dark cherries covered with cream, and mocha coffee. While not overwhelming, the finish lingers pleasantly and rounds out the elements from the nose and taste nicely.

A beautiful inky purple color. Really bold and interesting nose. Lots of cream fruit. It's a full bodied wine with tons of fruit. Dark cherries covered with cream. There is an herbal note when it first hits your tongue then big bodied fruit all the way to the finish. The wine finishes really nicely and is very pulled together. Despite the huge fruit, there is really good acidity that keeps the wine balanced.

Rich and full Petite Sirah. Strong nose of nutmeg and dark fruits that carries right to the palate where it just coats your mouth. A little heat on the back palate, but otherwise this is very well made and I would highly recommend.

Very enjoyable, ripe black fruit aromas and flavors. Deep purple/red opaque color almost black at the center of the glass. Full bodied, strawberry and black currant with some earth and spice. Long finish with moderate complexity. This was a Wilfred Wong Discover Wine Club selection for FEB 08. I have never tried a Petite Sirah before, but with the smaller berries and higher skin to juice ratio - understand why it has a deep color and explosive flavors. Enjoyed and will buy more.

This was a ton of fun. Fruit just pouring out of the seams, plums and cherries. Good tannic and acidic balance, but not too much complexity here. This is a very pleasing wine, without being over the top jammy.

Incredibly dark color. Beautiful perfumed nose. Rich fruity flavor profile that I enjoyed a lot. The one thing bothering me was a note of acetone on the midpalate/finish. If it hadn't been for that, this would have ranked a 90. I look forward to trying my other bottles.

Jammy nose. Black currants, marmalade and grape jelly giving a mouth full of fruit. Agree with smooth mocha as well. Full body and tanic backbone holds this together well. Lingers pleasantly in the mouth. Outstanding bargain.

pop and pour. much better than the last bottle I had. rich, sweet fruits - mostly black cherries with some plums. Still not much acid, nor much tannin. Really fruity if you like jammy wine. Really not too much to complain about at the $15 price point.

Darkest wine ever...opaque black purple. Plum and raisin. Good bit of sweetness, which is not my bag. However, very clean taste and finish. Added a bit of complexity as it aired out over a few hours. Little tannin or acid. It's quite unique. If you like dark plum and raisin, with a bit of residual sugar, go for it.

Day 1, didn't decant. Had 2 small glasses, recorked and put in fridge. Disappointing. Soft, not much tannin or structure to the soft, plummy, dark fruits. Day 2, sweet coffee (cappuccino?) on the nose and palate. Long, coffee-like finish. Never had that before from a wine.

Pop and pour. Gorgeous color. Nose was syrupy cherry - could detect lots of sweetness. The palate was almost identical. A little too sweet for me, smooth almost like cherry cough syrup (but not as mediciny) with no balance from acid or tannin. Perhaps this would do better with air, but this was not my cup of tea. I'll try again tomorrow.
Two days later, the medicinal taste was gone. Strong sweet cherry fruit was left. Still some style missing - oak or acid - that would have made this great. I didn't change the score.

The Heritage Clones Petite Sirah is always a stunner. I've had the 2003, 2004 and now the 2005, and each has been a great wine for about $17. Big and bold though, so you have to like that. But create character and great flavor.

This bottle showed up tonight with dinner and I thought to myself, oh god, is this going to be too much given the heat outside? But then, right before dinner, the breeze picked up and it cooled off about 10 degrees and as I had put this bottle into the freezer to cool it down some, it turned out to be a winner. I loved the 2004 and this wine, according to my pal who brought it over, was $15 @ Trader Joe's!!!!!! Nose of lavender and rich fruit, with some mint. Palate of focused red cherry and blackberry, along with chocolate and some wet stone. I've lost my taste my Rosenblum zins but this wine hits a big home run for me--big flavors, nice balance and such a slamming value for $15. I'm good for 4 of these next time I hit TJ's this week. QPR winner.
Day 2--Tasting it tonight, the nose shows a level of ripeness that one would expect with a Rosenblum wine but the bottle lists at 14.4% and I would assert it's probably higher, based on the nose, which is a touch raisiny, but not to the degree of being offputting. The finish is a bit short tonight, kind of falls off. But for $15, what the hell..........I'm not saying I don't like the wine, given the pricing and the deep color and flavor, it works. If it was $40, I'd have a different angle.

Chocolate chip cookie dough (?!) and plum and cherries on the nose. The palate is dense with flavors. There's a lot going on there. Surprising value on this obviously well-made wine. Outstanding. Day 2: the nose is not as expressive as it was yesterday, but the flavors in the mouth are fantastic. Fresh blackberry, cherry, and plums, and a strong and delightful floral character, like drinking violets. I enjoyed this wine very much, especially at the price. Tempted to bump the score to 92, but I'll leave it where I set it at Day 1.

Wow. Deep, dark, dense purple color. The bouquet is amazing with black plum and mocha. Chewy, but not overwhelming. The plum and mocha continue on the palate with spice on the finish. I was nibbling on some 70% dark chocolate while drinking this which took this wine from amazing to decadent. As good as this sirah is now, I think it's going to be a star in the next couple of years so I'm going to lay one of these bottles down, and see what happens.

Nice wine. Dark fruit w/ good oak. Surprised an 05 Petite Sirah drinks this well right now. My others still have a LOT of tannin to chew through but this is good to go now. What it lacks in complexity it provides in fruit forward friendliness and a good price point.

Wow...another nice QPR. Concetrated, deep blackberry, cinnamon, spice...dusty tannis and long finish. Would like to age for a year to better develop flavor range and come alive a bit. Very similar to the 2004

Big, black fruit nose. Glycerin mouthfeel with fairly rounded tanins. Big fruit, but not over the top. A little out of balance at this time, but as the fruit mellows a bit this should turn into a great bottle of wine. I saved some for the next day; it was even better. I would give it another year or two of bottle aging before drinking.

What a buy. This is bursting with blackberry, currant and cocoa flavors with a subtle undertone of huckleberries which were much more pronounced in the 04 effort. This vintage is more earthy and rounded than last years, which was excellent, but much more in the fruit bomb category.

Excellent QPR in this vintage as well. Huge fruit, rich mouthfeel, dark cherry and plum, and loads of cocoa. Low in acid and correspondingly sweet, but a pleasure bomb nonetheless.

Deep color, almost purple, opaque out to the rim. Opened, poured a couple of glasses & the rest into the decanter. Notes of blackberry, chocolate, deep plum and black currants. Chewy tannins, with raspberry, blackberry and chocolate flavors. Finishes just a bit short, with a slight jamminess to the fruit.
