K&L Grand Bordeaux Tasting: There's cassis and pure dark fruit on the nose; much tamer than the intoxicating aromas from '20 Canon I had before this. Medium bodied with a velvety texture. There isn't over-the-top, jammy fruit, but I would characterize this wine as ripe and predominantly fruit-forward with just a subtle touch of mineral complexity.

K&L Bordeaux Tasting: 13.5% ABV. Medium ruby appearance. Black fruit, anise, blackcurrant leaf, capsicum, dark chocolate. A bit more herbaceous than I prefer. Tannins not ready, but not offensive either. Acidity is good, not great given the ripeness of the fruit. Elegant mouthfeel. Needs more time to develop, feels clumsy right now.

very dark purple. perfumed Margaux nose with violet and rose petals wafting thru the cassis and blackberry fruit, the cedar, and the herbs. the herbal notes carry into and thru the mouth, making the wine feel a bit more open than it is while the smooth texture masks some of the power. moderate finish with a lot of structure that needs to resolve.
balanced, elegant, and in need of a good handful of years to start showing what it is.
13.5% AbV (!!); 60% Cab Sauv/ 36% Merlot/ 3% PV/ 1% Cab Franc; eighteen months in 60% new barrels

Saturday Afternoon Bordeaux (K&L Wines, San Francisco): Almost black. Light pencil shavings on the nose. Medium to full body. Much more herbal than the Canon (more Cab Franc/Merlot I would assume). Less obvious oak, leaner and stricter than the previous wine with good acidity, herbaceous finish with dry tannins. Completely unready and closed. Difficult to read.

Incredibly perfumed and elegant on the nose with layers of floral notes, blackcurrant and fine spices. Effortlessly refined on the medium to full bodied palate. Great freshness and persistence on the finish. Exceptional. Will be great once mature.

Seductive Margaux. It's easygoing and satiny in texture from the first sip with perfumed, rosy-red fruit. This is the profile you go to Margaux for. But is it maybe *too* easygoing?--not sure it has the depth or sheer oomph of some of the chateau's old greatest hits. The complexion does turn darker and blacker as the night goes on, showing some light cedar and chestnut behind the fruit, but it remains light and agile enough that it's scandalously easy to drink and I have no idea where or how they buried the structure here.

Château Rauzan Ségla Margaux GCC 2020 13.5% alc 60% CS / 36% M / 3% PV / 1% CF P&P bei zunächst 15° Morgen sind es genau 2 Jahre her, dass ich den Wein en primeur mit Adrian vV verkostete, damals von gut 20 Weinen der mit Abstand beste. Und jetzt, ein knappes Jahr nach der Flaschenabfüllung? Farbe: sehr dunkles, fast opaques Purpurrot Nase: Cassis, etwas Himbeere, die Düfte nach Veilchen und Frühlingsblumen nicht ganz verblasst, aber deutlich mehr im Hintergrund, weniger "atemberaubend". Gaumen: Es ist nun das Palais, das den Ton angibt, mit Noten nach Cassis, immer mehr auch hier Himbeere, unterlegt mit Maulbeere und gegen den mittleren Gaumen auch rote und schwarze Kirsche, Rosenblätter, im sehr langen Abgang wieder Himbeere. Holz nur angedeutet, Zedernholz, Wacholderholz, sehr feinkörnige Tannine und eine spürbare, aber nicht störende Säure sind quasi nur als Garanten für ein langes Leben (was ich ja damals in der Notiz en primeur dem "ätherischen Wunderwerk", wie ich es nannte, fast nicht zuzutrauen vermochte) präsent. Im Unterschied zum kürzlich getesteten Ferrière, dem "Holzklotz", ist hier das Holz derart dosiert, dass es nun einfach dem Wein gleichsam als Stütze dient, um den Unbilden der Zeit standzuhalten. Direkt aus der Flasche ein Wein ganz anderen Kalibers, dem man höchstens in der Erinnerung "vorwerfen" kann, dass das fantastisch blumige Nasenbild doch weitgehend abhanden gekommen ist - ein Memento Mori der Flüchtigkeit des Duftes, das im Wein als Getränk für den Gaumen quasi transformiert und solchergestalt wenigstens für ein paar Jahrzehnte konserviert ist... Ein großer Margaux! 97 P

The complex perfume stands out with its array of flowers, cinnamon, currants, cherries, cigar box, and touch of tobacco. The wine is full-bodied, deep, sensuous, silky and yes, sexy, finishing with a wealth of expansive fruit, espresso and dark cocoa that holds our focus for over 50 seconds. Drink from 2027-2060.

Interesting nose - a little reluctant to unfurl, but dark and intriguing, an iodine/nori component contrasting interestingly with violet. Fresh palate - maybe a touch heavy handed - or is this just the 2020 style and the wine at a slightly difficult place? 93 at a minimum, probably higher. Difficult to taste today.

Der Gaumen ist präzis und sehr frisch, dicht, mit top Tanninqualität, einer sehr guten Säure und ohne Alkoholüberhang, das ist pure Eleganz, die Frucht ist knackig, jedes Element ist an seinem Platz. Arvi Bordeaux 2020 Arrivage (Dolder Grand, Zurich): Bordeaux 2020 Arrivage tasting. Key observations: 1/ Tannins were generally soft and well-integrated, but still left room for structure, 2/ fruit generally ripe and well-defined, no over-extraction, 3/ all appellation were showing great, but if I had to pick out then it would be Paulliac, 4/ top wines were Petit Village (completely unexpected, 97) and Lynch Bages (96).
Tasting note: Another beguiling and inviting Rauzan boasting a sweet red cherry fruit, earthy aromas, fruit tea and black tea. Fresh and juicy palate with a velvety texture. A third strong vintage for this estate in a row, more or less on a par with 2019 in my view, but not quite the showstopper like 2018.

97-98 vvPunkte (60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, 1% Cabernet Franc, 13.5%) Was für ein zauberhafter Duft, sehr Margaux, mit vielen floralen Tönen, einige getrocknete Kräuter, Süssholz, Orangenblüten, ein Gedicht. Im Gaumen schlank und sowas von präzis, hier ist alles an seinem Platz, der Wein scheint über die Zunge zu schweben, wirkt bei sich, balanciert, zeigt Appellations-Charakter, eine sensationelle Gerbstoff-Qualität und trotz viel Druck eine grosse Finesse. Incredibly dark in color, the wine explodes with violets, boysenberry, cigar box, graphite, blackberry, plum, black cherry, toasty oak and spice. Full-bodied, with a fabulous depth of flavor, energy, purity and refinement, the wine is long, intense and silky. The finish, with its velvet-drenched layers of fruits entices you to take another sip, simply because it is that good. The finish holds on to for close to 50 seconds, leaving you with a wealth of expansive fruit, espresso and dark cocoa. The wine blends 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc, 13.5% ABV, pH 3.74. The harvest took place September 8 - September 29. 97-99

60%CS//36%M/3%PV/1%CF 13.5% alc Dunkles Purpur, sehr nobles Margauxbouquet, alles feinduftig verwoben und abgerundet : zurückhaltend ein Korb voller Beeren (Himbeeren leicht überwiegend), von Veilchen und Frühlingsblumen umrahmt (als ob sich Früchte und Blumen nicht gegenseitig die Show stehlen wollten). Am Gaumen Schwarzkirsche und Cassis und auch hier wieder Blumen in perfekter Harmonie, alles wunderbar abgerundet. Der Alkohol ist überhaupt nicht spürbar, die Tannine so fein, dass man dem Wein wünscht, er könnte jetzt bereits dem Barrique entsteigen (jenseits aller Gedanken an die Haltbarkeit). Die Harmonie dieser naturgewachsenen Komposition ist schlicht überwältigend. Ein ätherisches Wunderwerk. Einziges Fragezeichen: Wie übersteht so etwas die Zeit? 96 - 99

UGCB tasting Bordeaux 2020 Walkaround tasting so in general just short notes (Beurs van Berlage, Amsterdam.): Beautiful bouquet with dark berries, smoke, cedar and vanilla. Same on the palate, juicy acidity and round tannin. Full bodied and a pleasant touch of sweetness. Beautiful and complex wine. 95 - 96.
