  • Dark reddish purple in color. Full, forward & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, blueberries & plums with overtones of earthy/dusty & floral notes, cedar, tobacco, graphite, herbs, spices, anise, minerals & hints of vanilla/oak in the background. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blueberries & plums with herbs, minerals, spices & a hint of vanilla/oak. Lingering finish. Drink well at present with decanting & extended airing but should develop further with additional aging. This wine is quite smooth & polished unlike the rough & rustic wines of past vintages.

  • Flowers, black raspberries, red and black currants, licorice, oak and spearmint create the perfume. On the palate, the wine is ripe, round and loaded with sweet, vibrant, clean, red berries that taste and feel just great! As I wrote earlier, Cos Labory has really upped their game lately. This makes three solid vintages in a row! Give it just a year or two in the cellar and it promises to be even better. Drink from 2025-2040.

  • (48% Cabernet Sauvigon, 42% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot, 13.2% Alkohol) Dunkle Frucht, Tee, Tabak, Kräuter, Cassis. • At a tasting of recently bottled 2020s. Quite mute on the nose yet strong blackcurrant on the palate. Dark colour, good fruit. Typical St. Estephe in that the tannins will need another 6 to 8 years to subside. Good value at £168 for a half case in bond. 62% Cab Sauvignon 23% Merlot 15% Petit Verdot.

2030-2044+ (April/Mai 2021)

  • Round, ripe, chewy, sweet, and fresh, the wine is medium/full-bodied with an already delicious blast of blackberry, Asian spice and currants in the nose and palate. Cos Labory has really upped their game lately. This makes three solid vintages in a row. 91-93

  • Airoldi - Bordeaux En Primeur 2020 (Quay Restaurant, International Passenger Terminal, Sydney): Blackcurrant tends to the wilder side with brambles here as well, a little cream and sweet spice, slight earthy notes here as well. medium plus intensity acidity is a little too much and lends the fruit a more red hued note. Tannins are grainy and drying. Again the nose is nicer than the palate.

  • Very very deep
Feels open, but ‘hollow’? Touch redder, some sweet touches, and savoury.

Cool and fresh on the palate, crisp pockets, grainy and savoury feel. The tannins do build. Savoury and mineral, muscular and ‘classic’ St Estephe. Some nice chalky and sappy ref fruits… lighter and astringent.

  • 2020 First Look: The 2020 Cos Labory is quite nice, its natural richness showing through with a plummy boysenberry nose and a fullish palate, a bit warm but with nice spice. 89-91.

  • Some charm, leading with a softer red fruit aromas, a herby element, notes of clay pots, tea and plump darker fruits.
The palate has some coolness, good intensity and becomes a little more savoury and spicy, with some fine grip that does dry out a little.
