I liked the '18 vintage better for its complexity and terroir. This is more open, ripe, low tannins, but there's youth and freshness aplenty. Some mineral, but rather one dimensional, but still a lot of fun to drink.

Decanted for two hours. Anise, smoked blackberry, chocolate pudding, cassis, black cherry and pau d’arco tea. Long and flowing, with precision and fibrous tannins. So much grip on the back end and an engaging middle. Full body. Remains light throughout, despite the fullness. Wonderful today, yet aging is on the docket, with great intensity. Drink 2026 -.

Herb, mint, cassis, gravel, red fruit. Hearty tannin, medium acid, much less forgiving on the palate than some of the other wines in the tasting. Honestly, this still feels quite closed and needs a lot more time.

Union Grands Crus Bordeaux (UGC) 2020 Tasting (Hangar 14, Bordeaux): Tannins are at the forefront here with the fruit coming out on the finish. Tasted side by side with its stablemate Gloria which was the mirror images of this as the Gloria started with the fruit in front of the tannins. Both should be very good in time, with the edge to Gloria given its intense fruit.

The nose, with its notes of espresso, smoke, tobacco, incense, spice and red currants creates the perfume. On the palate, the wine is soft, seductive, and long, with a focus on its core of ripe, polished, earthy, black currants, chocolate and coffee beans. The finish is soft, polished, and fresh. Drink from 2024-2050.

The 2020 vintage UGCB tasting in Amsterdam 03/06/2023 (Amsterdam): For me not comparable to most of the other '20's. There lays a hint of very friendly exotism over this wine from start to finish. It makes this wine very stylish and balanced. The concentration guarantees a good future.

Tasted at the UGC, showing very similarly to a recent taste at the chateau. Pure, dark, direct. I like the substance here and the wine is clean (without noticeable brett) with a slightly meaty palate, lots of heft. This manages to convey a lot of bass notes without being heavy. Highish tannin among the 2020 St. Juliens as a whole. Pretty boysenberry and licorice finish, slightly chive-inflected.

A serious wine, sporting a deep and focused dark-fruited nose. Juicy, fleshy, and lush - but not flabby. Finishes very nicely and I should note as well that this is totally clean, without any brett that has plagued St. Pierre.

November 2022 in Zürich) www.vvwine.ch

Spürbar mehr Holz als Gloria. Sehr reif. Pflaumenkompott. Vanille.

2028-2045 (April/Mai 2021) vvWine.ch

Seductive, with loads of ripe, dark, fresh, polished, earthy, black currants, cedar, toasty oak, licorice and spice. The wine is soft, polished, fresh and focused, leaving you with layers of deep ripe fruits, a touch of coffee bean, cocoa and currants. This should age and evolve for 25 years or more. 93-95

Soft, ripe and broad, there is earth here and some prettiness too. Lovely silky texture, an elegant wine that feels a little grippier than Talbot, and a little chunkier too.

UGCB tasting Bordeaux 2020 Walkaround tasting so in general just short notes (Beurs van Berlage, Amsterdam.): The bouquet is still reticent but shows dark berries, sweet spices, beautiful oak, fresh acidity and sticky tannin. Beautiful wine with a great future.
