Opaque purple. Aromas of black cherry, black raspberry, violets, licorice, rhubarb, and smoke that evolve over a day to a heady cherry liqueur. Very restrained palate that demonstrates stem and red berries but little else initially. After a day, cassis dominates the palate, yet the wines's flavors remained cloaked. Persistently finishes with a bitter tinge. Best to let this one take a long nap.

Drunk over two days. Decanted for one hour on the first day. Somewhat restrained. On the second day (stored overnight in the fridge with argon gas) the wine was even better. Full body of dark berries. Promising, I think the wine will be great with another 10 years. 92 pts. at the moment.

Ripe blackcurrant, cedar and vanilla. Full bodied, structured and concentrated on the palate but with good freshness. Finishes long. A very modern style. Polished but not particularly exciting.

With a deep hue that is close to opaque, the wine exudes smoke, roasted espresso, cigar wrappers, blackberries, black cherries, licorice and chocolate. There is fabulous depth, purity, length and complexity here. The richly-textured finish is fleshy, powerful, intense and polished, with an endnote that keeps on going long after the wine has left the glass. This is the finest vintage of Pape Clement in years. Drink from 2026-2055.

The 2020 vintage UGCB tasting in Amsterdam 03/06/2023 (Amsterdam): I didn't expect the subdued style of this wine, of this château; a refined bouquet with smooth fruit, creamy, vanilla and gentle wood, perfectly concentrated and with very good tannins in the long aftertaste; really good!

Big, broad, roasted black fruit dominates the nose. Super tannic, out of proportion to the body and acidity. The is a little clipped. This seems a little heavily worked and I don't love the style.

November 2022 in Zürich) www.vvwine.ch

Arvi Bordeaux 2020 Arrivage (Dolder Grand, Zurich): Bordeaux 2020 Arrivage tasting. Key observations: 1/ Tannins were generally soft and well-integrated, but still left room for structure, 2/ fruit generally ripe and well-defined, no over-extraction, 3/ all appellation were showing great, but if I had to pick out then it would be Paulliac, 4/ top wines were Petit Village (completely unexpected, 97) and Lynch Bages (96).
Tasting note: Ripe, well-extracted red cherry fruit, sugar-coated berries and sweet spices. A fresh and fruity, round and well balanced palate. Another solid Pape Clément that impressively showcases the softer touch in the winemaking in the post-Parker era: less extraction, less new oak but instead more emphasis on elegance and precision. 94+

Good nose, nicely defined fruit with good ripeness and freshness in tandem; good weight. Good potential here, a sneaky structure hidden behind the the lush fruit. Perhaps not the best vintage of Pape Clement but decent potential. 92-94

Weich und cremig. Durch und durch ein Schmeichler. Etwas Trüffel. Dunkler Tabak. Reifer Saft. Es gibt an diesem Wein nichts auszusetzen. Ich finde ihn einfach nicht aufregend genug für seinen Preis. 92-94

Tasted twice in May. Its a bolder wine than 2019, with fairly long tannins and big finish. Adding to the other tasters note, at JS EP tannins had a soft shell that was quite attractive which was not apparent at ugcb. It is a very good vintage for pape clement rouge and highly recommended if you like the above qualities.
Personally I prefer the 2019 due to its finesse and secondly price increases for 2020 wines in general. Closest resemblance would be 2019.

2028-2046 (April/Mai 2021) vvWine.ch

Close to opaque in color, the wine explodes from the glass with smoke, cigar box, espresso bean, black cherry liqueur, chocolate ganache, bay leaf and black currants. Rich, lush, concentrated and deep, the wine is fleshy, powerful, intense and polished. Incredibly long, balanced and complex, the finish keeps on going long after the wine has left the glass. The range of dark red berries sits with you growing in intensity on your palate. This is the finest vintage of Pape Clement in years. 95-97

Very very deep Creamy cherry and raspberry aromas, cool dark purple bass notes. Intense, some vapour with dark fruit and quite inky. Grainy tannins, some chalk grip. Cool.

Great class on the nose, which has a real ease about it. Broad and sophisticated, poised and well-judged with good freshness, some oak and spice. Stylish palate too, very elegant and handles the density especially well, this is concentrated with super freshness and balance.

Vanilla butter wood (believe this will integrate with time). Plums, herbs, cassis, tannins quite prominent and time will do this wine well.

Rich fruit, balanced vanilla, acidity, tannin and alcohol with a hint of phenolic bitterness. Good potential for complexity. At UGC.
