Just fantastic for its age. Beautiful red fruits of slightly dried but very pleasant character, spice, mushroom, good earth, and a bit of smoky dried meat.
Unbelievable acidity led us to dare to decant this. It actually filled and rounded out after about 1-1.5 hours open. Very supple mouth framed by excellent persistence. Woot woot!

NSG Central Tasting (Chicago): Terrific aromas of meaty black cherry with spice and earth. Quite fresh, plump and rich on the palate. Bold meaty flavors of blood, mushroom, and earth. Smooth and concentrated. Would easily pass for a wine half its age.

Nuits St Georges 1er "Central" Tasting (Chicagoland IL): Perfect fill and cork. Opened at 5:15 with glorious aromas of intense black cherry and rich, savory spice. Bottle was divided 7 ways for our virtual tasting at 6:45, and this was still very enticing but less spiced and formidable. But still very robust with more fruit than you would typically expect from 1066 1er. Very good length.

This was a bit rustic and thin at first. It took several hours to round out and show its refined integration.
The medium+ intensity nose put forth violets, forest floor, dried cherries, and minerals. After this got over over it’s rough period it was refined with light tannin and good length.
Despite this bottle seeming to be in great shape, this wine was a bit past its prime. It still was nice but not quite as nice as other bottles. Drink up!

Another bottle from this batch. It was 93-94 points for the first couple hours. Surpringly for such a refined wine, it got better after 4+ hours in the decanter. It had a lovely silky texture. Impressive!

From an excellent looking bottle from the Bill Koch cellar, this wine had a deep red center with orange rims. The medium+ intensity nose showed black cherries, clove, violets, soil, and smoked meat.
In the mouth, this wine was refined but with rounded tannin and firm acidity that gave it a masculine feel. It had fine grained acidity and excellent length.
I am confident this bottle showed as well as this wine could. It was impressive.

Wines Tasted at HDH Auction: Slowly cooked mushroom medley with lots of mature black fruit and slightly sweet spice. Very good length. Wonderfully clean for its age. So elegant and harmonious.

Wines tasted at HDH Celebration of Burg Auction - Day Two: Gorgeous nose of black cherry, tea and spice. Mature, earthy rd fruit. Age defying concentration, freshness and density. Complex finish. Drinking like a wine half the age.

From a nice looking bottle with a 3.5 cm fill, this wine had a red center and orange/tawny rims. The nose was a bit funky for the first couple hours. Afterward, the medium- intensity nose put forth black cherries, tan spices, minerals, and violets.
In the mouth, this wine was light bodied with a nice silky texture and light tannin. The acidity was fine-grained and it showed very good length.
This bottle seemed a bit past its prime but it still had a nice showing after 4+ hours of air. Drink up

Casual Burgundy Dinner (RPM Steak - Chicago IL): Ullage 0.5 cm, perfect color. Popped-and-poured, this was sensational out of the gate, and just as good an hour+ later. Black fruit with lots of spice and mushroom hints. Powerful and absolutely charming. This is the 4th or 5th time I've had this wine, and all have been good or better, but this was the best.

East Bay Burgundy Club Year End Blowout (Casa Gary & Ross): Lovely! Really liked it (although - definitely over-refreshed by this stage so hard to be very insightful). Spookily, I had earlier in the day listened Paperback Writer being played in a coffee shop - also of the 1966 vintage and similarly, still very current and enjoyable. I have certainly had more tired wines from the 90s - this was singing. Fruit still there, great red colour - only the cork really convinced that this *was* in fact a 1966. What a special treat!

nose - seductive, sap, sakiz mouth - superb. shocking youthful appearing for a 50 year old wine. shockingly lively fruit with a wet leaves flavor that only hints at its age. The cork however was thoroughly permeated. Great provinenance? An eye opener

Getting ready for the holidays with a Burgundy dinner (The Bristol - Chicago IL): This is the third bottle I've had from this somewhat recent purchases. Bottle had great fill, condition. Popped and poured, if blind I never would have thought this almost 50 years old. Black fruit aromas and flavors, lots of spice, very elegant background mushroom character. Wine got longer, more dense and spicy with more air.

La Paulee Gala (San Francisco CA): Aromas of forest, old leather, braised beef and some Asian spice. Dense flavors are surprisingly lively, fresh and assertive for a 50+ year old 1er. Powerful and fairly long, this wine should hold well for a long time. David Croix from Camille Giroud told me that Giroud's former owners thought this one of the better wines they ever made.

From memory. Balanced, mature NSG, characteristic earth notes on nose and palate, along with strong prune notes on palate. Not sure if I like pruliers, but definitely interesting. If this experience doesn't demonstrate the existence of terroir(Pruliers = prunes), don't know what does.
