Medium bright gold, aging going on here; nutty, alcohol levels up after the Oregon Chards, raw alcohol notes, slight bitter finish, disjointed IMHO. Color: Medium golden yellow Aroma / bouquet: An impressive complex explosion of ripe aromas. First of all: a complete range of over-ripe fruit such as pineapple, banana and mango. But also wax and candle wax. Roasted (beech) nuts, cinnamon. Taste / Aftertaste: This wine is also beautifully complex on the palate. At the right serving temperature, the acid content is more than sufficient. Very nice balance. Filming mouthfeel. Retronasal impressions of overripe mango, wax, cinnamon and refined wood. Impressively long aftertaste. General / potential: In the past, it was fought whether Napa-Chardonnay could compete with the highest Burgundy from the Côte d'Or. As far as I'm concerned, this fight is decided. The most beautiful Chardonnays in the world come from Burgundy and California, both with their own character. This Kistler has really come into its own. Amber with age, beautiful secondary notes, nuts, brioche and excellent length went outstandingly with Mediterranean sea bass at the Dock.

Interesting. If I didn't know what this wine was, I'd guess it to be a high quality sauvignon blanc. Very acidic and dry with lots of powdery limestone mouth feel. Lots of light, bright tropical fruits on nose and palate. Grapefruit, fresh-cut grass, hay. It has a longer and slightly heavier palate, where it shows more of the typical Kistler weight. Not sure how I feel about this. It has evolved over the years, but in an unexpected way. I like it; it's a great tasting wine, with great structure, but if it drinks like a sauvignon blanc, should I be happy I paid $80 for it direct from the vineyard?

Greenish gold color. Aromas of tropical fruits, nutmeg, lychee and citrus oils. Ripe, ful-bodied but well-balanced fruit in the mouth with excellent depth and length. Very silky and intense on the palate with well-integrated oak. A delicious wine just now entering its peak drinking period.

Quite good. Not in decline that I can see, but on the flip side, I have never really found Kistler wines to improve markedly. Reticent nose, huge round mouth with a Kistler atypical note of green pear or citrus, and an extended, if amorphous, length.

Extraordinary Chardonnay with amazing core of ripe fruit combined with deft balance and finesse. Complex ripe pear and vanilla bean accented by dashes of nutmeg in the background. A silky, creamy texture gaines velocity heading towards an expressive and cascading finish highlighted by creme brulee and spice. Citrus and oak meld together nicely. Sensational now, but able to go into next year with ease. Served with seared sesame scallops and spring greens. Lisa's 50th birthday - Newbury Park.

Green gold color with slight cloudiness from a typical (for a Kistler) yeast deposit that got stirred up a bit upon pouring. Shy nose of lemon bar, toasted hazelnuts, flowers, a hint of marshmallow and a hint of sea breeze. Palate is completely dominated by harsh oak in the form of bitter toasted bread and vanilla bean. With time, this opens a bit to show lemon, marshmallow, saline elements, and a slight floral characteristic, but the oak never recedes enough to bring it into balance. Better days in the past for this one for my tastes. Drink up.

gold color-not the least faded- the nose is more rind than fruit, orange rind and lemon rind with an overlay of fresh peach. Fruit, minerality and oak on the palate, with plenty of alcohol. The finish seems grounded in acidity and lingers almost indefinitely.

Meh bottle, and disappointing as this is usually one of my favorite Kistler bottlings. Started a bit disjointed with excessive oakiness and acid, but did come together of the course of several hours. Needs air or more time.

A Thanksgiving treat for family members not accustomed to drinking Kistler. Big, buttery and wonderful. A perfect complement to Thanksgiving dinner for those wanting a white wine. Rhonda and the ladies loved every drop and I look forward to enjoying the remaining two bottles that remain in the cellar.

Had an opportunity to compare side by side with a Ramey Hyde vineyard though the Ramey was left over from last night and considerably colder. Both were excellent chardonnays. The Ramey opened up over night and was better tonight then expected the Kistler was also great.

No formal score or detailed notes as this is from a 2oz tasting pour. My first taste of Kistler chard after hearing all the hype about it. It definitely lived up to what I've heard, as this is one of the smoothest and most complex chards that I have had, without being overwhelmingly oaky or buttery. The nose is a bit on the buttery side with the addition of roasted nuts, melons and lemons. The taste is much of the same, but the butteriness is gone and the fruits become more balanced with the roasted nuts, butterscotch, and a bit of caramel. The finish lasts for quite some time and really gets your mouth watering for more of this wine. I don't think I am a big enough chardonnay fan to pay the $80 price tag, but it really is a pretty exceptional wine. If I had to score, I'd say 92-94.
