the last of a 6pack purchased at time of release. agree with the most recent preceding post that this is on the decline but with a little air, the tannin settles nicely and this came to life. sure, it's more savoury than a few years back but not all the fruit is gone for me... on the palate, still some prominent blackberry, along with mint, earthy notes and spice. also still has some good acidity to keep it lively. no need to wait but this is an excellent bottling that has stood up well over the years.

15%....I've changed my stance, few if any Priorat are aging crazy good, unfortunately this is another of them, disappointing a bit, not for wasted $, but rather wasted time and space in the cellar...crazy elevated alcohol, muddy nose of tomatoes, vanilla, graphite, paint, even paint thinner, quite stinky...the stinky nose has me wanting this to evolve through the night to something else...medium bodied, still some acidity, but the alcohol and muddied fruit leave us all wanting more...
I struggle to understand the style but I enjoyed it better a few hours after first opening - the air seems to lighten it up a bit, so it doesn't scowl at you and brood all over the place... Nice acidity but I think I want my wines a bit more fruity and less focused on the chocolate / coffee end of the spectrum.
Decanted and gave this a couple of hours before drinking. Full bodied, dark colored, well integrated. Very enjoyable and a good pairing with brisket and lamb chops.

Dark red. Nose is very fragrant, spice, berries and floral - really exciting. In the mouth it is dark berries and a choclately tone. But the heat and the dry tannin really makes this clunky. Fine with food. Try a 2 or 3 hour decant

Bright and dark red. Raspberry fruit nose. Huge raspberry attack, oaky tones, liquer, carried by alcoholic heat. The tannin is obvious and dry. After more airing the wine gets more flesh, shows licorice and the tannin recedes.

Popped and poured, consumed over 2 days. Medium-plus, deep violet/crimson. Forward, almost pronounced aromas of dark fruits...think black cherry, black raspberry, and kirsch...quite "grapey," actually, almost like grape bubblegum. These aromas are met by those of toasted oak, almost reminiscent of a wine from Ridge (although Mas Doix uses French oak as opposed to American like Ridge). While the fruit more than endures 24 hours later, the oak subsides a bit, allowing additional notes to develop of cocoa nibs and subtle tobacco plus complexities like menthol, anise, and roasted herbs. Medium-plus body. Interestingly, the palate shows both black and red fruits, the flavors of which come off as both "baked" and conflictingly fresh. This gives the fruit a good deal of depth and shows nicely when combined with the notes of herbs, earth, and toasted oak. The tannins are big, chunky, and astringent on the plus close...not a wine for those who dislike tannins. However, overall, this is simply great and for those who appreciate massive tannins which are well-supported by big flavors not lacking at all in complexity, this will indeed be a treat. While the tannins might suggest otherwise, it's perhaps best to drink this over the short to mid-term while the fruit sings loudly, as it is presently. Delicious Priorat.

Medium dark ruby. Bright red fruit nose - maybe raspberry jam. Crisp, raspberry and cranberry. Savoury. Concentrated primary fruit flavours, seasoned with some oak. Quite a grip after the finish has faded.

Nose is clean, medium intensity and show characteristics of fruit and spice and earth. The wine is still youthful.
Palate is dry, with medium - acidity, medium + tannins and medium body. The body almost holds with the tannins but on the finish they dominate. It is a bit hot, so alcohol is medium +. Flavor is medium + intensity.
Overall the wine is good to very good in quality. The "risk" is in the tannins. Will they ever resolve before the fruit character drops? Or will they always be the dominate chracteristic. If you like this "gutsy" style, it certainly fits it $40 price.

nose: blueberry and cedar upfront, with an inky, tar-like backbone. Overlaid on all of this is a black cherry nuance palate: packed with punch, this has a serious side to it, with med+ acid, med+ tannin, and a fairly long (30 seconds) finish of gritty black fruit and more cedar. Such an intense and structured persona is deserving of more attention than I'm willing to give it today. Excellent purchase at $22.

Deep ruby color, and concentrated fruit aroma. Balanced by tannin, and would have benefited from more age. Tannin even more noticeable late in the evening, but wine came off surprisingly well against Bangkok duck.

Deep red color. Aromas of black fruits, licorice, minerals and a touch of chocolate. Ripe, nicely structured fruit in the mouth with very good depth and length and fine, dusty tannins. This wine may merit a higher score with a few more years of bottle aging.

decanted about 30 min prior to pouring. nose: black fruit, some anise and herbs, tar palate: I enjoy this wine's bold, unapologetic presentation. 1 hr decanted then drunk over 2+ hours. Even though the tannins are a bit tight, I think it's quite lovely. The balance of tannin, acidity and pure, unadulterated fruit works for me. 90-91 pts Rebottled and sat in counter for 48 hrs. 15% ABV. Deeply colored translucent at the edges. Aromas of tar and creosote initially which transformed into a chocolate covered cherry note. Full bodied with sweet dark cherry/berry fruit and more chocolate cherry with ripe, but slightly chewy tannins in the finish. Very enjoyable.

15% alc...very earthy, frankly, fresh turned black earth, ripe aromas - probably alcohol - port thoughts...the palate is ripe, but firm, a wall of tannin and grip, black fruit, minerality - not the most forward Priorats I've had from '05 - I will wait and be patient on this value priced Priorat to see if all that grip lets up and shows through the ripe fruit that is so clearly underneath. Still good, just need to be patient.

I drank this wine over two evenings. I would describe my experiience as pop and pour - down the drain. I purchased this wine because I'm really enjoying Spanish wines of late, including El Nido El Nido, Aquilon, Alto Moncayo etc., thanks to my friend knicksfan. I saw an email from a local wine store praising this wine and its "value" and its RP rating of 93. I'm learning that bad tasting wine at a good price, even if "highly rated by RP, is not what I'm looking for in any wine. After having a glass the first evening, I thought it may open up with some air. The next evening I realized it was a goner. Anyone want to buy my two remaining bottles?

Opened + 60 minutes air in bottle - should have decanted and this wine did not really begin to show for another hour. Very dark red, almost purple in the glass. Black cherry on the nose and palate with cedar & mineral notes.
This wine is still too young and i will not revisit my remaining bottles for a few years. Tasted with the '03 which was showing very well (94 pts) and the '04 (92 pts) and this may have depressed my scoring unfairly - i can certainly see some additional bottle age raising the score over time..

Reddish purple color, classic priorat. Fruity but delicate nose. Tart cherries dominate the nose and taste, and an hour's air time helped mellow this relatively dry, tart wine. Enjoyed it for this distinction. Will be interesting to see how this develops in a couple of years.

This wine did not really impress me. Seemed overly dry and earthy. Decanted for about 3 hours before first taste. Did not get any "wow" factor from drinking this wine. The 93 RP rating for this wine is one of the few where I differ in opinion so widely. Usually my tastes in Spanish wines agree with the Wine Advocate ratings. I was border giving this a 90. But, nothing in the taste moved me up to the outstanding category. I may purchase one more bottle of this and let it sit several years and see if it improves.
