Disjointed at first but opened beautifully after about an hour in the decanter. Aromas of dusty cherry, cough drop, melted licorice, and savory herbs. Complex and engaging. Black cherry with subtle Christmas spices and menthol on the palette. Grippy and persistent with a medium/long, mouth-cleaning finish. Can't imagine this improving but it's in a great spot and will hold here for a while. Very fine.

Last bottle, at Ernest. Good richness and red fruited depth, but lacking some of the engaging complexity of other 2004s I’ve had. Also a little bit of alcohol on the nose.

Youthful looking dark ruby with hints of lightening around the edges. A beautiful nose shows inviting aromas of dried roses and bright red fruits, lifted sandalwood. A refined, silky palate follows through with layers of floral and wood spice perfumed sweet red fruits, good acidity, ripe and fully resolved tannins and a long finish. Excellent showing for this wine.

Really tight on opening, but three hours in the decanter did this a world of good. Still a little tight but silky and lithe, with fine but not obtrusive tannins and bright red fruit. Perhaps even better on day two, with the very last glass (sediment and all) being the best. No harm in opening one now but it's still on the way up.

BYO pop and pour, which wasn't entirely fair. In the glass, auburn at the rim, dark red at the core. On the nose, initially muted roses, but two hours later, much more open and expressive. On the palate, cherries, rosewater, and tar, with no discernible tannins. Better with air, which would suggest aging, but the lack of tannins makes me wonder how much longer this has. If you have a few, pop one into a decanter for a couple of hours and see what you think.

Same btl as R&Rler. This started out as the most oaky wine of the night and I contemplated not taking another sip but I left it the glass and wonders of wonders the oak clouds parted and this was enjoyable after 30 minutes in glass. Not my style but with age and, more air than got, this is a nice btl of Barolo and showed some depth and nebbiolo character. This should further improve with a few more years of btl age and again, lots and lots, and lots, more air next time.

Barolo and Barbaresco at I Nonni (I Nonni, St. Paul, MN): Dark red color. Drank 1 glass over 45 minutes. This was the most modern of the wines tonight, more oak, vanilla, fairly big red and dark red fruit, firm tannins, this got considerably better with air. 91(+?)pts.

Taste: Medium/Full bodied with medium/high acidity and big tannins. The structure is extremely youthful and imposing with dark red cherries, roasted herbs, red fruits, an tar lurking underneath. The palate is basically all in the attack and it falls off from there unfortunetly.
Overall: The nose and the palate were diametrically opposed. This was certainly on the young side and I would like to see where it goes as there was a ton to love on the nose.

At a restaurant in Alba for dinner. A super sexy, feminine nose, full with lovely red roses, rose buds, cedar wood, cigar box, sweet tobacco leaves, lovely ripe raspberries, flowers, a touch of glue and spicy perfume. On the palate this is a lovely as on the nose, full of ripe airy fruit, raspberries, sweet raspberries, wild strawberries, sweet strawberries, warm earth, some sour cherries to balance the ripe and sweeter fruits, fine acidity and super fine grinded tannins on a superbly structured and long finish. A superb, really great Barolo, in Burgundy style! (96 – 98)

Wonderfully aromatic- sweet flower petal notes that others have noted. Light bodied with mouth puckering finish. This never really opened up over the course of several hours. This paired well with osso buco- still seems young.

Jag älskar verkligen Chiara Boschis viner. Speciellt hennes Cannubi.

For some reason I was expecting this to be "bigger" than it is. Actually quite approachable from the first pour (no decant) and somewhat more interesting than my first bottle a year ago. Putting on some weight.

Opened and left alone for four hours. Decanted and poured prior to serving. This wine shows a reserved bouquet of cherry, tar, earth, leather and floral notes. The aromatics are defined but reticent. The color is a tarnished medium ruby. The medium bodied palate shows restraint but remains balance through the finish where firm tannins and acidity become present. This may benefit from a few more years of additional bottle age.

2004 Barolo (Vin Vino, Palo Alto): Medium ruby and much less dense nose than either of 2 heavyweight wines. This was misplaced in the line up since here, we are back to a more classic, less fruity, delicate, and almost weightless impression. Gorgeous perfume (the only wine with floral tones, in fact), cranberry acidity, and fine dry tannins. I finally got the proper pucker that I am used to with young Barolo. Nice soil on the finish. Not the biggest or richest wine by a long shot, but my favorite, and one that I can see aging slowly and magnificently.
