  • Wines of the Gods (House of AC and JC): Component of DRC Echezeaux and Grands Echezeaux vertical. Medium ruby with herbal soy on the nose. Robust wolfberry palate extending into an expansive long Genmaicha finish. Best 2030-2050.

  • A decent wine that lacks any wow, which this price point necessitates. (7742/9396)

  • No detailed notes taken. Expressive nose with dark fruits, minty notes, herbs, stems and sous bois, minerality. Very complex, pure, fresh, precise. On the palate this was a bit young with full on dark fruit, burnt sugar, fine herbs and minerality, stems, smoke. This is light as a feather which is a highlight. We had this at the end of a long, wine rich evening and I couldn‘t fully appreciate it anymore. 93/94 pts

  • At a terrific dinner at Bibendum this bottle was part of the main "duo" for the night side by side an exception and soaring CLB Eche 08. The DRC GE 06 played it close to its vest at first and appeared reserved next to the exuberance of the CLB. A very fine wine though without doubt, with tense mineral core, fine tea notes. We decided to "park" this bottle after a few glasses and give it a decant and revisit an hour later which proved a good call. The wine had clearly relaxed and opened up and was much more giving exuding fine bramble notes. I think this wine is clearly on the way up and best give it another 5-10 years in bottle or else do not shy away from aeration to get the best experience. Thanks Kevin for sharing this special bottle.

  • Wonderful wine. Such balance between this power, acidity, finesse, class, elegance, density with such length and this signature DRC fruit with those roses scents. amazing wine.

Grand vin. Équilibre entre acidité, douceur, finesse, classe, élégance, puissance et une longueur si impressionnante, avec ce fruité incomparable, les roses, et cette signature DRC. 94-95

  • PNP into Zalto Burgundy glass (“Leaf” day): Pale ruby to the eyes with purplish hues.

Darker red bramble fruits that is exuberant and quite wild in a nice way. But the spectrum expanded very quickly into red cherries that is in high definition and juicy. Black tea leaves, florals. Sous bois.

Very powerful but again this is nothing forceful. Very complete and long indeed. Needless to mention the high acidity and minerality profile here. A lot of finesse and freshly grounded fine white spices on the finish. Still a little tight at this stage in a nice way.

What a great achievement of this vintage and this is great to enjoy now but would have more to offer in another decade for my preference. 95-96 points easy.

1.5 hour upon opening: More medicinal, minty spices, red cherry cola, juicy meaty, very well integrated and intense. Powerful on the finish.

2.5 hours upon opening: Tomatoes in the best way possible and fresh herbs with super intense.

3 hours upon opening: So much concentration and brooding red and black cherry fruits and cinnamon, spice box. Animale, medicinal herbs, liquorice. Sous bois. Very deep and exuberant.

3.5 hours upon opening: last few pours, sage, rosemaries, charred herbs.

4 hours upon opening: this falls back to more about ethereal notes and subtle elegance.

  • bottle decant for almost 5 hrs. red fruits, rose and spice on the nose. very intensity of dark ruby color. hot year so lots of ripen fruit. it's surprisingly heavy on body with the jammy texture, like im eating the jam directly. compare to the 2006DRC Eche tasted two months ago, like this one much better. i think this 2006 Grands Eche is ready to drink from now.

  • La Paulée de SF Gala Dinner (Fairmont Hotel, SF CA): Great potential, but this is quite brooding with dense red and black cherry. Lots of spice throughout. Certainly fun to drink, but better down the road.

  • Popped and poured over dinner, consumed in a flighty with 05 DRC Richebourg and 06 DRC RSV. This followed a flight of 88 Bachelet Charmes, 88 Dujac CSD and 89 Dujac Echezeaux.

Obviously too young, especially when compare to the sublime and ready to go older flight. Nevertheless with swirling this showed very deep cherry and spice notes, with a hint of cocoa powder. Extracted and somewhat closed on the palate, with a monolithic flavor profile and a good dose of salinity that added to the texture and leaves me with the perception that there are flavors locked up in this wines youth that will unwind in due course. The finish showed fine grained and prominent tannins. I liked this second best after the 05 Riche, but all 3 were exceedingly close and way too young (which is to be expected but we are not getting younger hence the reason to open them while we still can enjoy them).

91-92 pts

  • Friday after Thanksgiving (FAT) - Part 1 - Burgundy 2006 (Palm Beach Gardens FL): Small taste, brief note. Open an hour before tasting. The most forward and "ready" of the 4 DRCs tasted tonight. Dominated by great baking spice aromas and flavors with ripe red cherry and berry. Less powerful than the others, but great harmony already now.

  • First glass was served slightly warm and did not show much, just lots of spice on the nose. After some chilling, the second glass totally blossomed. Red fruits aromas with hints of violets started to appear. Amazing presence yet so calm, poised and balanced. Typical '06s are a bit opaque in the terroir but this was lithe and transparent. Actually quite enjoyable to drink now, this could be a vintage which shows the elegant side of Grands-Echezeaux. A knock-out.

  • Creamy oak, candy, spice on the nose. Great structure, grip. Big tannins. Nice mid palate feel and flavors. Pretty easy to drink now. No secondary notes yet.

  • Red cherry with some floral overlay - very long and beautifully elegant. Actually thought nothing wrong drinking this early - shows so wonderful and open

  • Nose of red cherries and cedar. This is a elegant and sophisticated wine. The tannins are remarkably soft and sexy and has nice long legs. The acids are copious and delicious. At this time you can get the fruits and red cherries. It's coherent and pretty elegant wine.

  • Oinofiloi Wine Club Christmas Tasting.
Ruby. Typical pinot fruit with raspberries, violets, minerals and spices. Very elegant and refined. Mid-bodied with stiff tanins that need time to soften, good fruit and high acidity. Very long finish. Very primary, needs time to round-up and gain in flesh.
That said, almost no one out of the panel got really impressed by this wine and most thought that it did not live up to its legend. This was possibly due to the fact that it followed the unbelievable Domaine Leroy Vosne-Romane'e Les Beaux Monts 2003, a wine capable to overshadow almost any other.

  • Typical cherry like colour, light and transparent. Vanilla, liquorice, violets, and caramel. Somewhat unrripe, focused and closed still. Minerality is present as well as small berry fruit. Very good quality of tannins, medium body, fruity and mineral in the mouth (cherries and graphite). This wine is not yet approachable though. A waste of money to open it now.

  • My First DRC and Many Other Treats (Mirabelle, Austin, TX): Wow. Talk about a lot of sour cherry. Loads of red fruits here and I wish there were more dark fruits here to give this some sweetness and keep the myriad spices (cinnamon, clove) in check. Lots of tannin and set my teeth on edge. OK-

  • Just a touch darker than the Echezeaux – and deeper (more blood red) too. Fabulous, pure, nose, streaming red fruits, a touch of white chocolate and flowers too. Quite entrancing ! With air some deeper, darker, elements appear, adding real profundity and a broad meatiness to that initial “hit”. Mouth entry is a real notch up on the Echezeaux: bigger and finer, with robust red and black fruits and a touch of the earth. Mid-palate shows superb balance – nice freshness – and power, but perhaps not great focus. There is a real flair to the flavours though, and a lovely spicy, sweet and sour, finish that lasts and lasts. . 4
