Red berries, with purple berry accents, meadow flowers, herbs, sous-bois, and black earth on the bouquet and palate. Taut, delightfully so, and still showing youthful elements. I preferred this over the 2008 vintage. This bottle had five to seven years, perhaps ten, of life. Improvement seems possible. 93-94.

Herbal lift, candied red fruit nose. Tasted extracted, but smoothed out by its age. Red and dark fruit, still fairly bright and holding acid, not too shabby and definitely not flabby. 90

Decanted an hour before. Very fruit forward! Leads with blueberry, with a bit of cherry and maybe blackberry in the background. Acidity very much in balance. Color thinning on the edges. It won't get better, but it is not in any danger of slipping over the edge. I would say it has a couple of years ahead of it. Sadly, it is my last bottle. Hats off to Mike Etzel, he did very well with this one which is no surprise.

Delicious. Shows maturity not through aged funk but rather a softening of the primary palate. Cherry, blueberry, faint prickly blackberry, some citrus lightening things up. Soft and integrated, still fresh.

I have tasted every Beaux Freres since 1993 and upon opening every bottle I ask: how is this Pinot Noir? Okay, this bottle is 12 years old, has fruit, slight spritz on uncorking, balance, depth, married well with food. Preferable to any other Oregon or Cali Pinot which to my taste should be in the cola aisle. I've had Gambal Volnay and Pommard and recently, Pinot color, nose, acid, Pinot all the way.
Opened 2003 and 2006 Upper Terrace this week. 2003 drinkable with some fruit remaining. 2006 was burnt rubber long gone.
1992 to 2019 and I can't place Beaux Freres in any grape category.

Tasted over two days. It actually showed beautifully upon opening and for several hours thereafter, with elegant fruit backed by highly appealing terroir elements. Toward the end of the evening a slightly bitter twang came forward, similar to galvanized metal. Also noticed what came off as slightly unbalanced acidity. Had it at 94 points before this. Red fruited and open knit on the second day, quite appealing, though the angular acidity was more pronounced. It might be in a phase, but I have scored it 93 points three times over two+ years. Recommend drinking by 2025.
Picked off the list by the somm at Alinea. I didn't take detailed notes on this. It's in a good spot to drink although having had some older vintages of this, there's really no rush. I like the woodsy characteristic to it.

This bottle just never opened up. Opened and PnP. Lots of earth with mild funk on opening that dissipated. But even after four hours the fruit stayed buried in acidity. No rating as this was starkly different than previous bottles and much less enjoyable.

Medium red color. PNP, drank over 80 mins. In a good drinking window, but this may still improve over the next 3 yrs. Great nose - lots of spices, earthy, and cherries. Medium bodied palate. Cherries, cinnaon, spices. Elegant and balanced. Well integrated tanninsmand oak. red berry, lifted, pretty wood spice notes, and a long finish. May be even better in two or three yrs.
Only complaint? Price/value.

Medium red color. PNP, split bottle over 75 minutes. The best bottle to date and probably right at peak now - though this can go on for a number of years. The nose is a beautiful array of complex spices, red cherry, and earth. The palate is medium bodied, elegant with spiced sour cherry, red berry, lifted, pretty wood spice notes, and a long finish. The balance shines with perfect integration of wood, fruit and tannins. Love it. 93+pts.

Nice clarity and beautiful light ruby color and translucent. Aromas are floral, peppery spice, cinnamon, cranberry, and earthy notes. The tastes are cranberry, cherry, cinnamon, mushrooms, and tart hard candy. The acids are racy and the finish is long.

Was prepared to decant this a bit but felt it was ready straight away and we let it open over the course of the evening. Medium color for a Pinot. Red fruit, mushrooms, and cocoa on the nose and full, bright red fruit on the palate. Drinking very well right now and we enjoyed it. Starting to get the feeling that while '07 clearly isn't as good as '08, it's not nearly as bad as everyone initially made it out to be.
At 9 years old this wine is in a good place. Got to give it a good shake to let the S02 out. No bricking yet, but some secondary flavors emerging. Red berries with some earthiness. Silky well rounded wine.

Had one of these half a year ago and it seemed a little tight. This one was ready immediately. Nose of barnyard, wet earth, mushroom. The palate is surprisingly fruit forward, and as another taster noted, seems more Sonoma than Willamette (at least in the mouth). Lingering finish. Based on this bottle, I'll wait a year for the next one.

PnP, started singing just 30 mins in. High toned red fruit, some blue fruit, fine tannins, moderate acid, and long, lingering finish. I would have guessed Sonoma over Willamette. Good structure. Two hours in, though, it was giving up. For the price I prefer more complexity. Still, very good from an excellent producer.

Drank over three days alongside two other BF bottlings. This was the best wine of the three. It features more earthy substance (as opposed to fruit) than the 2008 vintage, yet was fuller than the 2007 Upper Terrace. The 2007 and 2011 vintages of Oregon Pinot Noir lean toward the Burgundian style because of the coolness, and I find the wines enjoyable.

Lovely. PnP this time. Should have decanted at least a little, although it opened up fairly quickly in the glass. Light strawberry with a touch of cinnamon and nutmeg, with a moderately long finish. A nice Pinot with a lightly grilled salmon.
Sippin well with a short decant. Lots of red fruit, spice, Oregon beach, cinnamon, and clean earth. Reminds me of the lighter 07s from OR I've had with a bit more oomph. Has lots of life yet but at a nice balance of fruit and earth now.

Really amazing what Beaux Freres pulled off with this wine in a tough year. It's lighter than other vintages to be sure, but still a nice ruby in the glass. Bright cherries, a touch of red berry, a hint of cinnamon all backed by a subtle acidity. A nice lingering finish. Very enjoyable and in a great spot. No hurry though--I think this will last at least a couple more years.

Medium dark red color. PNP, drank several glasses over 3 hours. The nose is particularly intoxicating with a perfume of earth and floral delights, cherry, raspberry, cinnamon, and an exotic array of spices. The palate is equally appealing with lovely vibrance, tangy, medium body, red and darker red fruits of cherry and raspberry, earthy with a firm streak of minerality, tart, spiced, and long. This was very elegant, very well balanced, and quite expressive. 92+ to 93pts.
Wine came across as incredibly underwhelming. Sour profile and also appears to have had too heavy a hand in added SO2. Don't think bottle was flawed, just not good.

Getting ready for the holidays with a Burgundy dinner (The Bristol - Chicago IL): Very charming ripe black and red cherry aromas, showing fat but balanced fruit. Lacy and well textured, this shows overall balance on palate as well, no signs of heat anywhere. Only nit is that today I find too much overt oak spice coming through. Upside from here if the oak integrates better as I expect.

Agree with the fiziness. Dissipated a bit after sitting in the glass for a while. Stung the tip of the tongue. I think Ill ask for a refund .
August 2013: Seems the fizziness comes from CO2 put in the bottle to slow oxidation. Maybe open bottle with a few hours before drinking or a good decant?

Decanted for two hours. I thought this helped calm the acidity it had right out of the bottle. Beautiful, expressive nose. Nice cherry, strawberry flavors. I've tried several of 2007 Oregon pinots in the last year and I think they are really starting to come together nicely. This one is ready to go, but no signs of it being on the downhill side.

Slightly less concentration than the '09 Beaux Freres, BFV. I guess, of all of the high production wineries in the area that get national distribution, this is as good as any of them; I just feel that the pro-critics of the world always add on 2 or 3 bonus "label" points to each vintage of the BF, year after year. Again, not that I have anything against BF, but it always seems to come in somewhere in the middle of the pack whenever I stack it up against the local competition (Willamette Valley PNs). Honestly I think that, vintage to vingage, double-blind, any random bottle of $40 Oregon Pinot would kick sand in the face of any bottling of $80+ BF. Bold statement perhaps, but take the pepsi-challenge, and then tell me I'm wrong.

Garnet and medium brick with med-lite viscosity in the glass. Cherry, strawberry pie with whipped cream, earth, wet stone and black cherry skin on the nose. At cellar temp the wine was quite tart, almost sharp. Hint of effervescence initially. With warmth and some air, it evolved into a much more complex and smoother wine. Dark cherries and blackberries. Still bright. Became almost silky over the two hours it was open. I will hold subsequent bottles for a few more years.

taste: very good medium body with medium+ acidity and silky tones of red fruits, berries, spice tones and a touch of roses. Lacking a little bit on the midpalate, but with a nice attack and finish
overall: this does come off as rather young right now. Seems a bit light on both the nose and palate, but everything is there to form into a very nice wine

With great disappointment we opened this bottle and tasted fizz. While it smelled fine when we uncorked it, the smell proceeded to fade away in the next 30 minutes but the fizz remained. It was just a bad bottle. We have two additional bottles and will be interested to see how they actually taste as they were designed to taste.

Harvest moon over Willamette Valley; 9/20/2009-9/25/2009 (Willamette Valley, various wineries): More body than the Willamette Valley entry (well, whatever one should call it at USD 50...) level wine, still feminine expression with silky smooth texture. A little fragmented. Jammy baked fruit. Slurpy. and the most fruit forward of the 2007s I tried, but given the 70 % or so new oak this wine sees, I was impressed with how elegant that touch of oak was.

A big wine but still feminine. Great nose of sweet strawberries and cherries, rhubarb, rose, clove, pickle, and white mushroom. Decent acidity, nice mouthfeel, and long finish. Palate full of plush yet racy red fruit, light vanilla, clove and baking spices, and some minerals kicking around. Clean fruit, no sign of barnyard or leaves...yet! Delish now but assume this will be great in years to come.

13.5% alcohol. decanted. vines planted in 1989, pommard clone. nose is rich and fragrant, but needs to be coaxed. black cherry, good mixture of earth and spice, very smooth tannin for such a young wine. good structure bodes well for medium aging (5-10 years). good, but not deep ruby color. this is a pleasing wine, but the price is insane ($85 in our market!).

Dark ruby. Sweet nose of black cherry and a hint of strawberry. Notes of spice and burgundian forest floor. Excellent in every way. Wish I had more-

Just as awesome as the others from this vintage we have had. This wine has really come into its own.

Earthy and still a little too acidic. Would drink with food or give it a little more time.

In a really nice place right now. Elegant and refined. Earthy but with ample fruit. Well balanced with plush mouthfeel. Finally the bottle of Beaux Freres that I had heard was out there. Patience rewarded.

The best Pinot Noir I have had in a long time. This is a well integrated wine with plenty of mouth feel, but not overly fruity as a good Willamette Valley Pinot should be.

Delicious strawberry fruit with earthy flavor, excellent structure, long finish, absolutely shocked at how good this wine was, usually I'm not a fan of the restrained early character of Oregon Pinots

Lovely wine of finesse, balance, elegance and depth. Rose petals and mushrooms waft from the glass, and in the mouth there's a beautiful lingering earthy licorice liqueur. Very fine with a plush mouthfeel and velvety tannins. Drinking beautifully right now.

Another solid wine from beaux freres. It is starting to drink very well and will likely be at its prime for a couple more years.

Most acidic Beaux Freres ever, but in a good way. IT's the vintage, but made it clearly a better food wine. Think this will age very gracefully.

Medium body with black cherry, tart citrus and iron minerals on the palate. Silky mouthfeel. Medium finish. Mildly complex, decent structure and nicely polished.

A ton of shitty 07 OR Pinots (Patricia Green Cellars, Newburg OR): nose: tight nose backed up by red fruits, berries, spice tones and a bit of fresh herbs as well. Good depth with an expressive quality to it though it was pretty tight
taste: very good medium body with medium+ acidity and silky tones of red fruits, berries, spice tones and a touch of roses.

Tasted at the winery. Plush red fruit and floral notes on the nose. Complex and layered on the palate with spice, some funk, and pine mixed with red fruit. Very ageworthy but shows nice balance at the moment. I can see even more complexity coming out with some time.

Memorial Day weekend tasting, 2008 Oregon Pinot Noir barrel samples (Northern Willamette Valley): Same translucent brick/brown color as the WV. Smoother aromas of spice, clove, and raspberry. Brighter red fruits, light spicy oak, and soil on the mid-palate. More polished finish showing more fruit, some dirty oak, but it's still a little hot.
