Rich, complex, generous. Nicely balanced and harmonious, except that it is a little lacking in acidity. Unabashedly New World in style, the 14.5% alcohol is well integrated and not particularly noticeable. This Cab is drinking very well now and is probably at its peak It has many years of cellaring potential, but I don't think it will improve much further.

Have to say was pleasantly surprised, as this relative inexpensive 2nd label of Quintessa is actually holding up nicely. Bottle still had great fruit and the wood was nicely integrated. Had with Italian, and think these 'boys' still have a few years left. No formal notes but had some nice blue fruit, with a little spice, and a reasonable mid palate and finish, was sad to finish off the bottle, but have a few more to look forward too, feel they are firmly in the 'drinking window'.

The wine looks crimson colored. The legs are medium. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like black currant (cassis), blueberry, raisin and vanilla. It tastes like red currant, black pepper and strawberry jam. The body is medium/full. The wine has leathery texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has low acidity.

Dark garnet color. Won't comment on the nose as it's being consumed from an Embassy Suite glass. Similar palate as last notes. Vanilla, toast all wrapped around rich fruit. Tannins are full and rich. Mini Quintessa?? QPR is worthy of the designation.

My rating remains the same from 2009--we opened the Magnum over the holidays--it needed to be decanted or opened for about an hour before the great taste came through. If you have a Magnum--do NOT try it right after uncorking or you will be discouraged--but let it sit for about 45-60 min.

Popped and let breathe for about 30 minutes. Nice nose of red fruits with some vanilla. On the palate, cherry pie, with some Rutherford dust and possibly a hint of vanilla. I felt like the tannins were very integrated after 30 minutes of air time. Drank from a 375ml. Not extremely complex, but overall a nice wine.

2hr decant @60F. This was a birthday gift from my non-drinking (wine and all of the above) parents based on a recommendation from my cross-coast Uncle that they picked up on a recent trip to Florida. I can't speak for the bottle provenance. COLOR- dark and brooding red/purple with a hint of brown. NOSE- medium intensity and depth with red sugar candies, plum, cherry, yellow pine cone powder, and sweet oak -- not bad; classic and typical for the appellation and variety. PALATE- hey, this actually qualifies... alcohol well controlled, fruit big but not unbounded, VERY nice full-bodied mouthfeel that exudes class and quality; oak a touch too present (esp. on the finish), but I can tell this has a good chance of "getting there" with aging. Flavors are dark with some layering of mulled spices, black cherry, plum, black currants, and tar. Medium acidity up-front turns more pronounced in the medium+ length finish. I'd say the lingering flavors on the finish represent my least favorite part of this wine; they are full oaky and charred in a way that leaves my mouth feeling dry, crusty and abused. The tannins here are legitimate, and there is enough balance and quality to suggest this will drink better and possibly show some real complexity in 5-years. As Napa cabs go, this tows the line, drinks easy, and so far as I can tell offers a serious value compared to many of it's over-priced peers. I'll look for this on the lists.

Very classy, scrumptious California Cab that actually delivers! No disappointments here; nice medium to dark color, attractive nose of cherry, spice and chocolate. Very pleasing mouthfeel to this wine. On the palate this wine is tasty and fruity without being cloying or jammy, and it demonstrates a nice balance of tannins and acidity. A big wine, with a lot of life to it. The only thing I can fault this for is a bit of heat on the finish, and a lack of subtlety. But on the whole, this wine can carry its 14.5% alcohol nicely, much better than some others with more distinguished pedigrees. IMHO, it's better than the Far Niente or Sterling Reserve I've had recently. Fairly priced, too. Have to disagree with those who say this is too young; it needs 2-3 hours of air to come around, and then it drinks quite nicely. My kind of Cabernet, but it may not appeal to everyone. If you like them big and sassy, give this one a try.

We're big fans of Quintessa wines and enjoy Faust almost as much. This wine does need to open up for about an hour, though. We have more in the cellar and just ordered even more. It's good that others are assigning lower ratings. This keeps the price down and the supply available.

I like this wine and disagree with some writers saying it is 2 dimensional. At this point- stewed cherries vanilla with confirmation on the palette. Good mouthfeel, well balanced- typical Cali cab but a good price point. Decent finish- 30 seconds or so

A lush fruit bomb at this stage. If you must drink it now, it needs time to decant and it must be served properly chilled or the black cherry-vanilla sugars are too dominant. I think it is developing a nice finish but I would wait at least 2-3 years before I tried it again. It is simply too young at this stage, but some folks like Napa cab that way.

Located in the Rutherford AVA, one of my favourite regions of the Napa Valley, Faust makes wines with Bordeaux varieties from vineyards in the Atlas Peak region.
Making only one wine, a mainly Cabernet Sauvignon based Bordeaux blend, the 2006 vintage is comprised 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 3% Malbec and 1% Cabernet Franc aged in French oak for 18 months.
The nose shows mainly savoury, earthy characters as well as a hint of liquorice. The palate shows dense berry fruit, spice, vanilla, good acidity and well integrated tannins.

First had this wine at the Wine Bloggers Conference in Napa Valley last year. Good Cab with ripe red and black fruit and strong front palate. But, starts to fade mid-palate and finishes short for me. One dimensional, easy drinking wine that's worth trying, but falls short of many of its $50+ competitors.

Aromatic creamy vanilla nose, with some mocha and currants. Lush, dark fruit palate, fine tannins, and with a strong vanilla/oak influence that turn sweet into the finish. Oak, cherry and charcoal finish, medium complexity. Touch of heat on the back end. Good, nothing special out of Cali though to justify the price.

More than I had expected. After 2 hours exposed the air it still had distinct bursts of fruit which filled the mouth. Cassis, and other dark fruits with a hint of honeysuckle at the finish. It may not be a first growth but its still a good wine in my books

Thinner in appearance than the 2006 but this is delicious juice. Not too tanic as some have been hit and miss, and the flavors are all in check. Mocha, black raspberry, cherry pipe tobacco and asparagus - beautiful integration and a medium finish. Loving this.

Great slate color and very fruit forward. Drank from 375ml bottle. Some may be turned off by the amount of juicy sweet fruits, and this one is definitely that. Very subdued tanin and a pleasant finish. Will get better in the next couple of years, as this one needs to blend a bit more.

Excellent fruit taste, great typical bold Napa Cab!
