Matched with beef on the bone. Double decanted three hours in advance. Initially brooding, tannic and bitey, but it mellowed well over the evening. It is not as profound as the 78 or 90 but it is a beautiful expression of Hermitage and La Chapelle. Blue and red fruits, autumnal notes, leafy and forest floor, with licorice and menthol, cinder ash, tobacco and dabbed cigarette; an absolute pleasure.

From MG; certainly the new polished style, but there is local feel behind. powerful but classy, smooth - still young, but certainly approachable. #DVR#Lyon

La Chapelle was still at its infancy. Very juicy and youthful with green tannins. Hints of chocolate, licorice. Blend of 2 climats: Les Bessards & the limestone Le Méal also converted to biodynamics in 2006. Incredibly low yields of 15–20 hl/ha. Aged in French 20% new oak.

CNY at UE Straits. Poured into decanter and drank over next 2 hours. Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of tarry earth, toasted wood, ash, blackberry fruit, black licorice. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14%), fine polished very high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of black licorice, blackberries, blueberries, black cherries, tobacco ash, tar, earth. Long finish. Very good quality. Charming, modern, polished. Approachable but still needs more time to develop more complexity.

P. Jaboulet Aine - Hermitage la Chapelle 1995-2015: During a merchant vertical tasting. The first wine of this series who had a lot more blue fruit intermixed with the hot, red cherry compote notes. I like this cooler element clearly. Good structure too. Lovely, modern style Rhone that will do well with a broad group of tasters for sure. Ready now.

Still young but what a potential. Needs to be be opened well in advance as it is a little austere at the beginning, but when opening, well balanced and great length

Rule the Rhone; 10/27/2016-11/3/2016 (Northern & Southern Rhone): Drank side by side with the 2003 so different winemakers and different vintages. Opened and poured. Considered a decant, but the wine was approachable almost from the beginning. Still, this one was just constant evolution so that over the course of the 1.5 hours we were drinking it it was always something new. Herbs and black fruits and hints of meat and olives and just a more subtle approach (the 2003 was warm and welcoming from the get go, this wine started shy and ended as the life of the party). Very good.

Massive legs. Extravagant nose of mint, eucalyptus, pink peppercorns and roast meat. Powerful blackberry body, with balanced strawberry freshness and complex seams of sage and umami. Long cigar box finish. Wild yet decadent.
[Drunk after dinner in Singapore. 18-90C. Decanted 2 hours.]

From magnum bottle. At this stage of the afternoon I was no longer writing tasting notes, but I had this immediately following Torbrek RunRig and vastly preferred this Hermitage. So much more finesse but still massively powerful.
Black berries, spice, oak. Really nice wine.

Ben's 50th B'day (Ben and Estella's place, Parramatta): On the nose aromas of black berry fruit, toast, peppery spice, cream and smoke with some floral top notes. I'm also getting the beginnings of some leatheriness here as well. In the mouth there is an initial impression of some juiciness, black berry fruit then tight, thick, very chewy tannin. It's long and cream flavours join on the finish but it's still a bit young for me.

An open and pleasant La Chapelle. Lovely fruit which suggested real selectivity on the part of the winemaker as there was not a hint of overripeness, despite the very full flavours.

Lovely rich aromas of lavender, blueberries, baking spice and a touch of garrigue. Silky and rich on the palate with tannins showing on the back end. Flavors include roasted meat, leather, tobacco, and dark berry compote. Good now but will develop more with age.

Oak, forest floor, truffle, smoke and minerality add to fresh, jammy, black cherry jam sensations. Still young, the wine should improve over the next several years, although, its open, modern style will allow it to be enjoyed younger than most vintages of La Chapelle.

Black raspberry, licorice, cracked pepper, earth and herbal aromas open to a soft textured, medium bodied, elegant style of Hermitage. Think of this as a better version of 1997 or 1998.

Tarry nose with top notes of new oak, almonds and coconut over pure high-definition syrah fruit. Impressive taste, palate-staining ink and violets, yet very suave and polished tannins. Long finish, with aromas that unfold like a pheasant's tail. Great drinkability at this early stage. Obviously there are pros at work in the new winemaking team.

Decanter Fine Wine Encounter; 11/13/2010-11/14/2010 (Landmark Hotel, London): (Decanter Fine Wine Encounter) Nice red color, peppery nose on a thick fruity background. Very fresh in the mouth (as it should be I guess), sweet ripe fruits, blackberry, cherry, round, balanced excellent fruity aftertaste. This could be drunk and definately for the 10+ years. This could be fascinating to try it in the future

Very good ripeness of the grapes and gives a very elegant and enjoyable aromas. Did not detect much spice from the it typical of a Shiraz. Spice and earth on the palate with long long finish. Very impressed with the 2007 vintage.

Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle Vertical - 2007, '05, '04, 1997, '91, '88, '85, '82, 1976 (St Regis, Singapore): Quite a few people in the room were really taken by this wine. I thought it was very good, but was not quite blown away by it. Call me biased, but at the moment, it was just a bit too candy-sweet for me. Nose opened at the get-go with sweet blueberries and stalky cherries, with an almost sticky, medicinal feel to it. Thankfully, it toned down a little, to take on a more candied tone. Still sweet though! With time, it became rather attractive, with some licorice, a touch of flowery perfume, some herbs, hints of spice all coming out of the glass, along with licorice, a touch of scented wood notes and just that undercurrant of meat. I liked the palate somewhat more. There was some heavy weight here, but nicely balanced by a backbone of clean acid. Dark fruit bass notes and sweet red fruit top notes were wed to some savoury red meat flavours, spice and plenty of nice minerality, but it was the almost new worldlish sweetness of fruit that dominated. Finish was long, with hints of vanilla and spice bringing up the rear with just a twist of bittersweet bramble. Clearly young, not quite integrated yet, with sweetness and alcohol sticking out at bits, but this was quite impressive. It should improve with age, but I think this will need a good decade or more before hitting its stride. At the moment, a very good but not all that fantastic a wine for me.
