The comments below are consistent with my experience. I enjoyed it, but if you don't like older whites or a more heavy-handed CA chard, stay away. If you like either or better, both, you'll enjoy this. Compared to an 06 Ridge MB I had six months ago, the Ridge was much more complex, with a Chablis like salinity on top of what you would expect, so I enjoyed that a lot more, but that's a high bar. In any case, still some pleasure left here, but I also wouldn't hold much longer.

Our last bottle, showing very mature with a deep yellow color and dominant butterscotch qualities. There's some orchard fruit and citrus elements mixed in as well, along with a bit of a botrytis quality. A good bit past prime for my palate, but not without some charm.

Notes of lemon, honeysuckle, apple and stone are very promising. Nuanced and quite lovely bouquet. The palate falls well short of the bouquet however- flat without very much flavor. A touch of orchard fruit with a tinny/metallic quality as well.

Tasted alongside the '96 and '97 Mt Eden as well as an '02 Kistler Dutton. This was very good, but I enjoyed the '96 more. Others preferred this one as the best of the group. Although this is ready now, it had more fruit and a better finish than the Kistler, and did have me wondering if it might reach the level of the '96 Mt. Eden with some additional age, but I would not take the chance and would be drinking now. A-

As always this was not disappointing....decanted and drunk over 3 hours, this is a white that benefits from the breathing. Bright medium to golden yellow color, with a fragrant nose with honeysuckle, lemon/citrus, some tasty oak and lots of minerals. Quite tight initially but with air it opens up nicely but has a big acid backbone that will allow further aging. Not particularly creamy or buttery on the palate or the nose but there is a rich but bright , chewy mouth feel with the lemon in the forefront and some spices on the mid-palate. Medium long finish where the honeysuckle seems to come out more.

Aromas of nut, saline and lemon. Nose not giving up too much. Palate was a little tough at first but started to come around after 15 minutes. Flavors of butterscotch, vanilla, lemon bar and mineral infused after taste. Have to agree with another poster that I liked this a tad better in its youth.

Brilliant yellow/gold. Forthcoming aromas of dried citrus peel, roasted nuts and smoke open the door to flavors of dried pineapple and exotic honey. Rich, viscous and full bodied this vintage is delicious and long. The acidity has dropped out a bit and I don't see this getting any better. Drink up.

Wonderful bottle of wine. Gravelly nose with slight buttered toast, pear and white peach. Bright acidity. Flavors consistent with the nose along with a little lemon in the mid palate. Definitely needs some air to get the most out of it. Nice long aftertaste. Great with grilled salmon and a salad with ginger dressing.

Walleyes, Sweet Corn, and White Wines: This bottle showed wonderfully tonight. It is beginning to develop a beautiful richness and complexity from age. It has a nice golden hue, but no hints of oxidation on the nose or palate. This showed a wonderful balance of fruit and honeyed butterscotch notes in an extremely smooth, seamless package.

Vertical of Mount Eden Estate Chardonnay (Nopa, San Francisco): Tulip yellow. Leesy, honeyed nose. Great creamy texture and outstanding concentration without feeling heavy at all. Adequate acidity, long finish with some oak toast and surprising soil. Everything is so well integrated that you cannot pick out discrete fruit flavors, but you feel the fruit balancing all of the other components. This is pretty much a dead ringer for a Cote de Beaune Grand Cru. Fresh and pretty amazing.

Very similar to previous bottle, but the burnt element in the nose was missing, just moderate sweet oak, and the strongest fruit flavor was pear along with some pineapple and fennel and just a hint of the white peach. Beautifully mature, perfectly balanced, with a long aftertaste and luscious to drink!

Awesome Cali chard with a Burgundian feel. Moderate oak. Rich golden color. Creme brûlée on the nose along with some apricot and peach. Very rich and went great with a creamy St Andre-like cheese. Great mouthfeel with richness and viscosity. Long aftertaste for a chard. Needs a decent amount of time to breathe.

High caliber and legendary Santa Cruz Mountain Chardonnay that started actually awkwardly and slowly, but eventually came around and shaped up quite nicely. Deep, rich golden color with floral notes displaying tart green apples and Asian pear. Smoky oak framed peach mingles in the background, underlining the secondary flavors of grated nutmeg, vanilla bean and crème fraiche. Originally had difficulty with the wine being too cold from the frig, but the outstanding performance materialized once it came almost to room temperature. This wine just never caught fire with me. If I had more of these I'd drink em up.
Full bodied, rich buttery taste makes this Chardonnay linger in your mouth for 20+ seconds. The mouth feel is so rich it almost has a butterscotch flavor. While not for everyone, this is a delicious distinctive Chardonnay that will appeal to the traditionalists.

CA Chard for the white Burgundy fan. Awesome stuff -- lean lemon curd flavors, with the almondy creaminess and warmth coming through on the very long finish complemented by wonderful minerality. This is so classy. Just coming into its own now, I'll hold the others at least another year as they'll only get better. Excellent...

Like my 09/2010 note this was a lighter style for CA, shows more lemon-lime versus pineapple and pear though these flavors are in the background, clean/pure with good acidity, but seems to be lightening up with age.

Wonderfuly balanced golden chardonnay with notes of caramel apple, butterscotch, vanilla, and some spice from the modest oak. The lush mouthfeel is balanced with good acidity and the structure will allow the wine to age nicely. (With some time to warm up in the glass, the nose actually took on a bit of a sour note of warm milk or sour cream.)

On openning -Nose - Chardonay, astringent. Palette - Abit oakey. Some astringence. Nice. 90 on openning. Then astrigence and oakiness declined in the glass and decanter. Honeyness emerged. Nice balance. Not as good as a top Mersault, but quite good.

Awesome and ultra rich. Very deep in an almost caramel color, this is one of the best chards I've ever had. So huge and heavy, but you wouldn't know it. Lots of butterscotch, melon, apple butter, and layers of so much more. There is so much going on that it would take a long time to type, that I can go on and on about it. Just the right amout of balance and acidity to keep it going. For the price this is an excellent value to anybody. If you are the type of consumer where you rarely splurge on a wine above $25-30 dollars it would still be worth the extra money and you will remember this chard without question. If you got 'em, drink it up over the next decade. 5 stars out of 5.

A glass of sunshine that delivers true California Chard tastes and textures. A white that displays creme brulee, lemon drop with complex spice and nutmeg. Precision and harmony describe this wine now, so different from most Napa / Sonoma '06 Chards. Rich lemon, good acidity, hints of tropical fruit come together to show that this producer can make a world class wine. 3rd bottle of this wine, and the best to date.

Sampled 7/3/10. The rich overrope melons and citrus fruits I tasted in this wine 6 months ago has become less noticeably pronounced and more minerals and flowers have emerged. I'm not sure what this means in terms of the wine's aging ability. Normally I can count on Mount Eden to age gracefully. This vintage might be an exception.

Very elegant wine. Rich and moderately creamy style - moderate tropical fruit. Not what I was expecting - I thought this was going to be bigger, but everything was in proportion. I see some so-so scores, but for me, this wine is awesome. A rich and very burgundian wine in the style I associate with Montrachet. Pale straw, limpid, nose runs to lime, brioche, stone. The richness comes through on the palate: powerfully extracted, astonishing length, impressive grip and cut. If you like that old style of California chard, you won't like this. But I happen to like Montrachet and this rocks.

Dabbling in California chardonnay after years away. Picked up a few of these because wine board notes suggest Mt. Eden remains the standard for Burgundian-style Cali Chards. I like the complexity, especially the nose. But the flavors are diluted, there's no white wine version of grip and--related--it's lacking acidity. I think I stick with France for chardonnay.

Citrus and wood nose. Nice acidity and just a bit alcoholic, creating a slightly hollow mid-palate. Pleasing butter caramel finish. Somewhat Burgundian in style, though lacking a little elegance and Chardonnay character. Age will help some, but the heat is likely to remain. Still a fair effort for this price.

Beautiful carmel colour. Pineapple skin, apricot, honeydew melon, hot rocks and chalk. Bright and lively on the palate with elegant vanilla. There's a buttery element as well. Simply stunning. Well layered, well layered, etc.... I am taken back by the finish and the Montrachet quality of this California Chardonnay. There's a true sense of terroir. I typically do not like California Chard's that much, however, I am loving this. Perfect with crab legs and millet/pine nuts. Drink now - 2016.

This is very very good, hands down one of the best CA chards we have had. The wine was enjoyed with good CT wine buddy neighborbill and spouses as part of a pasta cook-off challenge recently held at our house. Clear, greenish yellow, very approachable with medium body and a good mouth feel, very well balanced yet with plenty of complexity and sugar for further cellaring. Oak and butter present but very well balanced and enough steely granite present to not overpower. Surprisingly fragrant and floral nose, rose and green fruit yet steely. Off-dry style with primary flavors including balanced oak and butter, soft baking spices, red fruit and underlying granite. Highly recommend this wine, even at this price point this is so good as to not be an entirely unreasonable QPR value.
Great bottle... Nose was very fragrant throughout This wine has the perfect amount of oak; just enough to still let a hint of steel and citrus through Highly recommended
