Dark reddish purple. Intense blackberry rock candy, dark cassis compote, tar/charcoal and white pepper on the nose. Full bodied, spherical, thick and chewy in the mouth with gobs of ripe and stewed small black fruits, savory pan drippings, low acidity, dissolving tannins with a long, fruity/charcoal tinged finish. This wine is not shy and is best drunk next to a burning fireplace on a winter's day.

Very nice and drinking well. Quite the inky purple wine. Adequate nose. Very plush black and blue ripe and integrated fruit. Still with tannins and alcohol. Bold and beautiful. Long and very nice finish.

Coravined. Soaring aromas of black currant preserves, black olive paste, bacon fat and graphite make up an enticing nose. The palate shows satin textured, sweet crushed black small fruits, low acidity, melting tannins and a long spicy and charcoal tinged finish. What a great showing and a good value to boot.

PnP. Deep purple with long legs. Nose is dark and rich... hints of bramble and pepper, loaded with blackberry, blueberry and cola. Palate is a muted reflection of the nose... with some tart cherry on the back end. Nice residual acidity (or the tartness) on the finish... with just a hint of tannins. Drinking very nice right now. Very good QPR at $25 (PA State Store close out price from 2012).

I went to the cellar and pulled this without consulting CT (which is usually a dangerous proposition) but it turned out great. A great nose of mocha, blackberry, vanilla, and even a bit of anise led to a palate with tons of fruit and depth. This is an enjoyable wine that I could drink for a while. Siduri/Novy will always be one of my favorites precisely because of this wine—perhaps not the finesse that I prefer, but balanced and fun. In the end, I can’t really ask for a lot more. My favorite of the 07 Syrahs we had. Better than the Rosella's and Susan Hill. The Garys has by far the most pepper and reminds me the most of a rhone style with it still being very California.

Opened (not decanted) about an hour before tasting. At this stage, it should be decanted or aerated. A big boy! A lot of smoke on the nose, but most of it blew off over time. Black and blue fruits, some smoke, and maybe a little sage. Full body and a little sweetness on the long finish. Delicious, but it's a bruiser right now, and drinking it was a little fatiguing. Definitely needs another couple years.

Retail $32. We are big fans of Siduri/Novy wines and this was no different. Big, dark fruit—probably the biggest of the Novy Syrahs that we have had. Thick and rich, but still refined and balanced. We enjoyed this with oxtail stew at our “new” local BYOB, the Blue Cat. Excellent. 89-91 Points.
Bottle opened last night, had a glass but decided to wait for tonight. It started out last night a bit rich, kind of a maple note and seemed a bit sweet. It picked up some complexity as it sat, pulling in blue fruit notes, and also an interesting stone pit note that I often find from Susan's Hill, which is south of Garys', up on the Pisoni estate. Tonight, aromatically some of the stem quality also emerges, which I didn't find last night but very much enjoy here. The palate? Lots of blue fruit that cuts a broad coat across the mid-palate. Cooked meat, some tar, garrigue and better structure tonight that freshens up the palate with the maple, sweet note disappearing from last night. The finish drops off some and so the star really is the mid-palate. In sum, I like the wine better than last night but the complexity here is not all that strong so I would offer a drink window of now (with some air to let the stems and more rustic notes emerge), through 2015.

This is a nice bottle of wine. Very dark fruit and extracted. The oak is well integrated and helps balance its power. it opened a little more on 2nd night, but the alcohol is just a tad hot. Consider decanting and/or serving slightly chilled

Deep, dark ruby to purple color. Blackberries, licorice, smoked meat, pepper, blueberry, dried herbs, and dark chocolate on the very nice and inviting nose. Medium to dull body with solid, ripe tannins and very nice acidity. Spicy fruit with a nice meaty presence on the palate with more pepper and some earthiness coming in later. Nice lingering finish which again highlights the meaty elements with chocolate and fruit in the background. Very nice and impressive.

Needed at least an hour to open up but drinking beautifully now. Full bodied, lush, and smooth, layers of fruit and spice with nice acidty and maybe some charcoal and black olive on the finish. I'm down with it! hink I'll buy some more

Decanted for about 2 hours. Deep, dark maroon color. Blackberry, blueberry, smoked meat, pepper, and olives, with some soy sauce and chocolate on the nose. Medium body with solid, ripe tannins and very nice acidity. This is a big and rugged wine. The tannins and acidity provide a solid backbone. Nice, lingering finish with the savory elements in front with the fruit providing a nice background. This tastes very nice now, but this will improve with cellar time.

This note formed on the wine being open for the 3rd day--it's totally aerated. Last time I had this bottle was before it was released, in June 2009. Having waited over 18 months, that seems like a fair yard stick to measure the wine again. Pours very dark, which I like in my syrah. The plushness I commented on back in 2009 is still here. In fact, this is one of the key features of the wine. Along with it, lots of fleshy dark fruit, the kind that feels like a barrel sample in tone, framed out by some milk chocolate. There is some blueberry, teriyaki/soy and some light shadings of acidity but this wine is more about plushness than complexity. I actually think it's best tonight, even moreso than last night, as some of the tarry acidity has come forward yet I think this particular Garys' will be an earlier drinker, more opulent than rugged, sexier than lean. I'd pair this wine a hearty burger, something that has some steak sauce and a bit of pepper.....PS--FWIW, I finished this wine on the 4th day it was open. It remained together and the flavors held up very well, even the acidity. I told my wife, "this stuff is like petite. I could probably leave it out another 4 days and it would be solid".

14.2% alcohol. Opened six hours before serving but not decanted. Very dark purple color, completely opaque. Gorgeous, refined nose of meaty black fruit, with pepper, and an earthy edge. In the mouth, a textural surprise. Super refined, with a silky mouth feel and impeccable balance. Beautifully concentrated, with layers of black fruit that are laced by meaty, spicy, and peppery notes. The acidity is good and unobtrusive, but there is nothing flabby about this wine in the least. Continues strong through the finish. An exceptionally good wine. A

A beautiful teenager of a wine. Starting to look like an adult but not quite legal. A little more time and this will be a looker. Lovely meaty, savory, stemmy, plum, and blueberry nose. Wild and ripe on the palate - blue fruits, olives, a delicious salinity with plenty of grip and structure. Substantially enjoyable wine.

Consumed over three nights. Inky purple black. Nose of black olive, earth, blueberry, charcoal, meat, and camphor. Very savory in the mouth, consistent with nose. Not really a lot change over time, opened up a bit but did not fall off much at all.

A somewhat funky nose of black olive and heavy, sweet oak, neither of which blew off. [Update - the nose was considerably easier to take on day two.] Nice mouthfeel, and some savory tones that just end up sweet and flat. Didn't want to finish the bottle.

2007 Novy Syrah Party + A Pile Of Other Things (The Murray Casa): Plush but seemed to laxk some of the complexity of the Rosella's. Consistent with Garys' terroir, blackberry, teriyaki and a blueberry juicyness. At 3 hours open, spicy, meaty, plush with beef jerky and teriyaki, which these last two characteristics being what Garys' is for me. I would be interested to re-try this wine in 6 months to see if it can add on some complexity. Good enough now but want more.
