Definitely not past its prime. If anything, it's barely entering it... The wines from JJ Prum require considerable patience and 15 years for a Kabinett is quite long. However, the wait was fully worth it. By now, there's none of the house matchstick character left; just beautiful floral and fruity elements with exceptional purity and intensity. a classic Mosel wine tasting well above its Kabinett category.

Even better than the last time I tasted this wine 3-4 years ago... pear, hint of mint, floral, sweet but light, excellent acidity, long finish. Enjoyable now but will undoubtedly improve.

This was a great riesling that only got better throughout the night. Has just the right amount of sweetness to not be overly sweet. Feel like this wine can go another decade.

This came across as just past its youthful stage with the sweetness a bit less overt than years ago. As a result, complexity of the fruit was more apparent. Very nice.
I opened this to go with a spicy langostino dish I made - petrol, butterscotch, and herb on the nose, which I like. It was a good pairing, but agree it lacked some depth and complexity on the palate. Lemon drops, minerality, some spice - all correct but agree, not compelling.

I'm not sure if this wine is asleep or a rare example of a Prum wine that doesn't have a long life. Fairly muted without much acidity. Entirely forgettable.

Opened one hour in advance. Muted aroma of peach syrup. Mildly sweet white fruit flavors, apricot with some metallic notes in the finish.
There's nothing wrong here, but it's a disappointment. Flavors are correct, acid is good, but overall it's a lackluster experience. Dumb phase? Tired? I don't know, but I'll give my remaining bottles some time in hopes they will improve.

Light straw color. A touch of effervescence. Nose of peaches, apricot, a hint of lime and bit if strawberry. I don't know rieslings well, but this is a delicious wine. The low alcohol allows for refreshing swigs. Plenty of fresh acid is beautifully balanced against the candied orange, lemon and lime. The apricot finish lasts for a minute. Delightful.

Off-dry, with pronounced lime-lemon flavor. Somewhat lacking in concentration, the fruit appeared to be fading while the acid remained.
Same storage as a previous bottle, yet very different results. No noticeable flaw, but nowhere near the same experience as my bottle of a few months prior. Disappointing.

Lime and (marzipan?) nose, palate of lime, peach and hint of mint mid to end. Still loads of spritz and seems greater residual sugar than usual, but delicious and balanced all the same. Drink now for pleasure... or cellar for more glory.

Light yellow. Some sponti on pop and pour, it blew off after 20m revealing a nose of sugar liberally sprinkled over yellow orchard fruit and white flowers. On the palate the wine is predominantly lime, peach and a whiff of smoke. There's great acidity to the wine, which is pradikat appropriate. Lacks a bit of concentration, but otherwise a textbook Kabinett. I wouldn't be surprised if this wine could last another decade, but my remaining bottle is unlikely to last that long -- it's too delcious now.

AP 11 09, 8% abv. Very pale, still some light spritz. Lovely light tanginess, moderately intense, a little sweeter than expected, but not too much. Lovely, light, more-ish aperitif. Probably needs a few more years.

Vindredi (Barcode (Bellevue, WA)): Nice intensity, with apricot, white peach, and white flowers. Comes across as sweet and fruit-forward on the palate, with medium acidity to balance that out on the finish.

A very good but not outstanding version of this wine. That out of the way, I did enjoy the Kabinetts playful balance of lime juices and saline tinted acidity. Typical Prum poise and restraint. Good underlying tension. Should hold for a decade or so if one is so inclined.

Quite nice. I believe the age has softened this wine a bit. Acidity wasn't as pronounced as I am used to with Prum, but this still had quite a bit going on. Lovely citrus notes and hints of petrol. Classic pairing with the Thai food that we enjoyed with this wine.

Very pale, neutral green color. Contrasting the limpid color, the nose is very rich, powerful and expressive with quite sweet aromas of white flowers, lime zest, some developed diesel smoke character and a touch of slatey minerality. The wine is moderately sweet and full-bodied on the palate yet remarkably elegant and very light on its feet. There are pure, well-delineated flavors of stony minerality, some ripe lemony citrus fruit, a hint of petrolly minerality and a touch of saline sea air. The wine isn't expressive, but instead delicately austere - not aggressive, but instead full of flavors so light and subtle you might think that the wine is lacking in nuances until you start looking for them. The balance between the high acidity and moderate residual sugar is just stunning. The finish is long, stony and a bit sweet, showing bracing acid tang and more pronounced flavors of wet stones, honey, some white peach, a little bit of ripe yellow fruit and a touch of white flowers.
A thoroughly charming, utterly sophisticated and beautifully harmonious Mosel Riesling. The residual sugar gives the wine not only richness and flavor, but also some breadth and body to the mouthfeel. Yet, the wine is as feather-light as befits the wine from the Mosel region. Overall the wine doesn't feel as tightly-wound as many Mosel 2008's did younger, but the wine still tastes very primary and in one sense still a bit underwhelming - I can only see the wine benefiting from further aging. It is very beautiful right now, but there is no need not to age the wine for 10-15 years more - there are lots of Rieslings to be drunk young, but only so many 2008 Prüms.

Citrus and tropical fruits, slight sweetness, soft body and slightly fading flavors. Acidity is lacking a bit, so the wine is almost flabby. Only almost. Overall no mistaking this as a Prum Riesling with the stone fruits and mineral undertones.

Anniversary weekend at Fearrington. Back for the incredible tasting menu for a 2nd night in a row, this time just with my lovely bride of 25 years. AP #04-13. Purchased off the list. Light green tinged in color. Surprisingly no SO2 or spritz for such a young Prum. Light and airy with strong acidity of the yellow grapefruit variety. Long on the finish. A very well made wine. 50+12+13+8.5+8.5=92

Lovely. This is the first time I've found petrol on the nose charming. The sweetness is just perfectly embraced by the texture (which is equal parts oil and silk and diaphanous) and acid (which is mild). The finish is clean, lemony and lingering. I don't think there's a lot of flavor complexity here. Drink soonish.

Lime peel and lime extract dominate the inviting bouquet of this offering from Prüm. With a few years of bottle age this is starting to show its true colors. Along with the citrus, minerals and sea breeze on the nose give way to a palate with a touch of sweetness and well integrated acidity. After just a taste of this I was hankering for some spicy Asian food, maybe a citrus-driven Thai dish. I can't say if this will continue to develop, but it's drinking beautifully now. Rated 1 on a scale of -1 to 3.

Lemon zest and stone on the nose. I agree with the other comment on effervescent lemon on the front palate. I also detected apple and pear on the palate. The finish is medium. A nice Riesling that was not overly sweet. I did notice the flavors were more muted when the wine was in the low 40s Fahrenheit. I preferred the wine a little warmer.

Balanced fruit impression on the nose with notes of yoghurt, mushrooms, herbs and slight bready bredth. Off-dry and pretty crisp palate with good weight. Apple, peach and lemon. Spicy and slightly floral with minerally aftertaste.. Rather yummy stuff.

The aromatics are energetic but refined, showing notes of waxy lemon-lime, caramelized tropical fruits, white flowers, and almond butter all undercut by hints of petroleum. The palate opens in a similar fashion with an initial melange of ripe tropical fruits, later becoming more focused with integration of a lime citrus acidity and slate minerality. The finish itself is long but perhaps a bit lean, nevertheless boasting interesting elements of sweet green apple, fresh clementine, and smoke. The wine is quite lush, but remains contained by a vein of acidity most expressed on the finish. More cut throughout, however, would add a bit more tension to the wine’s flavors. This is a solid kabinett. R&M 89

Wonderful, dry, food friendly wine. Very light color, acid and fruit, but in fine balance. Tasted with grilled octopus with (lightly) pickled onions and arugula. Superb pairing, as the light fruit and minerality, plus very slight smoke from the wine blended with the food. A perfect bottle to introduce chardonnay hounds to a great food wine.

Had this at Terroir Wine Bar in NYC. Bottle was part of their Summer of Riesling. The wine had been opened the prior evening so the tasting notes are based on a 24 hr elapsed time from opening:
A subdued nose with some citrus notes. Palate has a fantastic balance that is best described as walking on a razor blade between mid palate sweetness and acidity. Hint of herbs/grass and like other reviewers, also came across the lime sherbert flavor.
Finish lasts 30+ seconds.
Very much enjoyed this wine.

Thought it was spoiled as the cork seemed wet when I opened it but I was wrong. Aromas of tropical fruit & lime, somewhat subdued. Palate is medium and excellent peach, pineapple and lime with a hint of sulphur or rubber, not sure. Nice acidity and structure to complement and balance the sweet fruit. Lovely finish with a zing. Definitely better on day 2. I will have to contain myself on opening the other 2 bottles any time soon. Will seek the 09 as soon as I can find it.

This Mosel Valley riesling is so pale it's nearly clear. After a dozen minutes in the glass, an appealing nose of lime and honey greets you, but this wine's real joy comes out in the palate: a delicious mix of peach, baked apple pie, lime sherbert (thanks to the review below mine, you nailed that flavor!), and a hint of honey. My fiancee & I also loved the faint fizziness that accompanies each sip. Medium-bodied with a medium finish that is perfectly acidic and only slightly cloying, but more than acceptably so. Fantastic wine, I'm sad that I'm down to my final bottle.

PNP. Great nose of lime and pineapple and a bit of wet rock. Flavor had more sweet than I expected but popping acidity and the lime sherbert and baking spice was nice. Looking forward to leaving these along for a while.

Nose has distinct notes of petrichor, pineapples, and light beeswax. Palate is very fresh with a melange of tropical fruits, wet slate, beeswax and white flowers. It has some underlying petrol tones that, with air, grew in intensity. Lots and lots of acid and structure here too. This is enjoyable now, but could easily last for a couple decades.

There's a touch of sulphur, but not the brimstone bomb of some young Prum. Very light, almost lacy, delicate and pure. Despite it's litheness it seems to have underlying power. Infanticide, but I enjoy. A-/B+

Pale straw color. Tight and a bit dry on the palate on pop and pour. Much more pleasure on day 2. A touch of sulfur on the nose, with grapefruit, nectarine, and crushed rocks. Off dry and a touch spritzy on the palate, with lime and orange citrus, and nectarine, and lychee flavors. Light on its feet. Nice minerality and plenty of acid. Medium length, citrusy, slightly tart finish.

Nose of green apple, wet stone and powdered sugar frosting. Light to medium texture. A little tang and citrus on the tongue and mildly sweet finish.

Solid everyday riesling. Quite refreshing, but a little too much fruitiness for me.

white peach and hints of petrol. best served cold as the alcohol otherwise seemed out of balance. (weird for low alc wine) Not very sweet not acidic. Good wine!

Fresh nose of florals, minerals and melons. Palate had finesse and energy with a beautiful white linen tone to it, subtle lychee fruit and white florals. Expressive, refreshing, and balanced. Love this Kabinett.

Nice stone fruit and white peaches. Acidity is as strong as ever, but the sulphur seemed to be less noticeable on the nose with this one. Palate was focused and linear. Great QPR as usual.

Riesling & Gruner Dinner (Mandu - Washington, DC): This drank really well for such a young Prum! Nice tropical fruits on the nose with wet slate and some chalk-dust. Had nice depth and complexity too . Will certainly mature well.

Gruner's and Riesling.; 4/3/2011-4/4/2011 (Mandu Washington Dc): Nose was light with lemon lime, minerals.
Palate of minerals, lemon lime, tropical, white grapefruit.
The finish was average and there was more acidity than the 07.
I felt this was a let down after the 07.

Gruner Veltliner and Riesling at Mandu (Mandu - Washington, DC): gorgeous nose of ginger, lemons and oil. pineapple, golden apple and lime zest on the palate. a bit more zip to it than the 07, but this is still quite rich for a kabinett.
