This is a nice combination of big wine with balance. It has a rich gold look with melon and a slight mineral gooseberry. It tastes of a rich blend of melon with crisp balance. It is big at 14.4% ABV but well done.

Not bad for a cheap house white wine. Green apples and pears play the fruit role here. Not particularly complex, but most likely won't offend anyone either. Went fine with Dover sole tonight.

Mediocre typical Calif Chardonnay. I'll admit my bias against this type of wine. Was not 'bad', just not m style. Unremarkable. Would not buy again. If I were a fan of this syle, probably a good price-to-quality buy.

This is a very pleasant nice wine. Much better than most unoaked chardonnays that basically come off as tasteless acid. I personally would like some discreet use of oak, but this is a very nice, if not a bit neutral wine.

Interesting all the notes about this being unoaked. I get a lot of oak in this at cellar temp.. Citrus fruits, almonds, butter, oak. Nice balance of acidity. Like winegr, I think the critics missed this one.

I agree with winegr that this is a bit boring. But the tropical fruit is welcoming and the alcohol not as noticeable as it could be. At $15, it's neither a good nor a bad deal. I suppose if I saw it for cheaper and I had some guests who hate oaky chardonnay over, I would by it.

Strangest thing. I bought this for its allegedly great QPR -- I think it was $10 a bottle from K&L. It's way over-oaked for my tastes, and there's this undeniable fishy quality to the nose. At first, I thought I was losing my mind. So I emptied the glass, rinsed it out and sniffed it, then re-poured the glass. To my astonishment, the fishy (as in pee you!) nose remained. SO much for 'great' QPR. Maybe I'll try basting some salmon in it.

This is awesome cheap chardonnay! No oak, but does have that buttery, toasty flavor I like. Decent concentration for a 12 buck bottle. Nice alcohol, acid, and mineral balance. I am hard pressed to find a Chard in this price range posessing this kind of flavor profile. I get the feeling the wine maker used the money (s)he saved on oak barrels to aggressivly thin the vines. This is a strong candidate for Casa de Przyzycki's summer white. Drink up!!!! Seved with pre-made lobster Ravioli's from Costco.

Today I found this fairly nice chard disjointed...a bit hot, the mouthfeel heavy, nice aromatic pineapple and bitter orange peel somehow didn't quite work. Maybe more time in the bottle is needed, maybe it's just the contrast with the similarly priced Perrusset Macon-Villages I had last night, which was much more refined and silky. I try but can't ever seem to get into the Cali style of chardonnay.

Good, clean fruit and some mineral and acid on the finish. Not as complicated as prior vintages -- esp. 2007 & 2005 -- but a really good drink for $11/bottle. Best with our fried popcorn shrimp (and not as good with our lobster seafood dip).

Light gold, tight nose with slightl straw smell. Lots of acid on the front end, really zingy in the mouth. Medium bodied but the zingy acid tricks your mouth a bit. Nice clean tropical fruit with a nice finish. A good very clean unoaked style. Very food friendly wine and a nice QPR.

We had this over 3 nights. On the first night I decanted about 1/2 the bottle for 60 minutes. I have heard mixed reviews on the 08 when compared to earlier vintages. But I haven't had earlier vintages and for a $10 Chardonnay I thought this was outstanding. I think another year in the bottle will be its friend. Clean honeyed fruit with apples and pears. And with zero oak and no malo, I was taken by the richness. This does not come off as a steely high acid wine. You could say the acid is high but the fruit easily matches it. Maybe some RS remaining on this one. This will be my house Chardonnay.

Golden yellow, darker than our typical Sauvignon Blanc. Fresh effusive nose, tropical fruit with some buttery notes. This is a stainless steel fermented wine, and as such we were expecting the crisper mid- and back-palate non-woodiness. Pairs well with medium-weight meals, both with cream and tomato sauces; fish too. Very nice.

Greenblanket caught himself sizing up the Beaujolais Blanc as a braising liquid and took care of that problem by picking up a case of this wine. It's cheap enough to cook with, common enough to serve to the once a year holiday guests, good enough to hold the wine geeks at bay, and food friendly enough to drink regularly. And, it's crisp, tasty and unoaked. Excellent.

Zin Purge and a Couple Random Whites: Wildly tropical on the nose. If I close my eyes, I could be in St. John (I wish!). I can't remember the last time I've had a chardonnay that made such a distinct tropical impression. There's more body on the palate than I expected. I enjoy this wine a lot, though a bit of shortness in the finish keeps my score down. I enjoy the "no malo", and appreciate the "no oak". But I have to wonder how good this juice could be with just a touch of crisp, toasty oak. I'm sure it would bump the price up, but it's be really cool to see a lightly oaked version to compare side-by-side to this, and that hypothetical wine would likely be one of my all time favorites. I'll have to research the Varner line, which is new to me, to see if such a thing already exists. An outstanding QPR as it is, about $11.50 per bottle by the case. An outstanding choice as a house wine.

Having seen this on several email blasts and Traci's mom asking about it, I was pleasantly surprised to see Traci had a bottle open when I got home from AP Vin Winery.
Interesting wine, I believe it sees no new oak and no malolactic fermentation. The wine is nice with baking spice/apples on the nose and a nice weight on the palate with more spice, pear and something a little earthy. A solid CA Chardonnay in the $11-13 range. For those with a Trader Joe's nearby, check out Domaine Alfred's Stainless Steel Chardonnay (also Central Coast) for $9.99. Comparable although the Alfred is a little brighter. 85-87/00
