Praelum - The Wine King (Praelum Wine Bistro): Intense flavours of dried pineapples and apricots and a bit of mint and grass, but the alcohol burn was significant and thrown off balance

Ten years on. Holding on just fine but a curiosity at best. The age is not overly evident and there is good fruit richness on the palate. There is a savoury element and on the long finish a subtle nuttiness. Kudos.

Lots of white petals, honey and a touch of spice. Really holds the attention - complex but so nuanced; lovely weight and texture on the palate, deliciously creamy. Wonderfully cool and mineral on the palate - hard to believe this is approaching 10 years old! Give white Burgundy a miss and drink this instead.

Palladius 2008 - drinking beautifully this has ripe white fruits, wax, beeswax, tropical, jasmin. Full rounded oily palate with a great acidity that lifts up the wine. No need to say, but Eben Sadie wine's are outstanding.

blind tasting of 17 different kind of wines all over the world
first time a little bit disappointed from Palladius, comes from a perfect cellar. Dark golden colour, ripe yellow fruits, honeydow melone, for me and some other drinker a hint too oxidised, some Vanilla and typical creamieness of Sadie/Palladius style

The Twelveth Annual Stonefields Dinner (Guelph, ON): Very floral with notes of honey, wool, oak spice, mineral. Palate is fairly sweet with good acid. Finish is fairly long on honey and wool. Not really getting any of the 14.5% alcohol on the nose but caught a little on the back end of the palate.

The Twelfth Annual Stonefields Dinner (Guelph, ON, Canada): Golden colour This was rich with lemon, vanilla, nutmeg, pineapple, wool, acacia, and honey….a touch tropical in its fruit profile but done in a very restrained way. The palate was equally complex with notes of vanilla, lemon, wood spice, lime zest white flowers, pineapple, and guava. The oak is present but integrated. What really makes this wine is its great minerality and its great balancing acidity. The finish is medium + with layers of flavour and the only quibble I had was the fact that there was a little bit of unresolved alcohol on the finish. Very nice wine.

A rich nose of vanilla, brioche, roasted nuts and a rich but fresh fruit with apples, pears, mango, pinapple and grapefruit. A palate of equal owerflowing eloquence: oak and fruit, but balanced by a piercing acidity and enough minerals to start a quarry next to the oakhut a previous reviewer suggested. An intense oakmonster of a wine that somehow manages to come across as balanced and enjoyable, at least when drunk with confite of chicken. In spite of beeing a hopeless europhile who usually despise this type of wine I really like it. Bravo Eben!

Very nice wine.... Managed to grab a single bottle from PJ as there were some spares knocking around from a group purchase. Its been waiting, but we saw the first real glimpse of summer, so it deserved to be opened to partner the bbq. The colour is starting to show some age, a nice mid yellow, it could nearly be confused with a Sauternes with a few years under the belt. When pouring into the glass there was a slight thickness when it was poured out of the glass, mmm, lovely. Nose and Palate were fantastic, it kept evolving throughout the 4 hours the bottle was open and really delivered some complex flavours and tastes. Happy to by some more of this.

Drinking utterly brilliantly right now - treads a fine line between rich, complex and deep fruit and firm, acidic structure. Nuanced and elegant - very serene and calm quality here to the fruit, although this is no retiring wall flower. Needs rich and robust food - preferably strong cheeses. Complex, with touches of white flowers, a tickle of clarified butter, minerals and melon. Excellent.

Stunning. Combines fragrant floral notes initially with a rich fruit led taste. The oak is a constant but the gives some muscle that supports the fruit and gives structure. Stone notes as well.

Well, whatever you think of it, you are not likely to forget the sheer intensity of this wine. With its unusual blend of 77% Chenin Blanc, 13% Viognier, and 10% Chardonnay, it has a vigorous fruit component, treated with enough new oak to build a small hut. The result is a powerful and yet balanced wine, which comes across as a crossover between the Chenin from the Coteaux du Loir and some oaked Chardonnay from California, augmented with floral Viognier notes -- and all of that on steroids. Once you've tasted this you will forever be able to recognize it in a blind tasting, so unusual it is. Is it good? Yeah, it is a fun wine and it pairs well with soft cheeses and cold cuts. I wouldn't try with delicate food such as fish or shellfish, as the wine would completely overpower the dish. And this ain't no aperitiff either. It is a muscular wine that will hit you in the face. I have no clue about the drinking window, but you don't really need to wait -- go for it and hang on to your hat.

Montly wine tasting at Clos du Stavanger - bring a bottle May 2012 (Stokkaveien, Stavanger): Tasted blind. Fat, young and very rich on the nose. Some buttery flowers. Lots of oak. Some minerals. Very concentrated and clearly high octane extraction. Hefty, but not bad at all. The immediate thought upon tasting is "Damn!!" The front palate is so extremely rich and concentrated that it is difficult to get the wine through the mouth and digest it. Incredible concentration and very long. The grapes must have been picked with ridiculously low yields. Some alcohol in the finish and lacking some acidity from the perspective of a chablis lover, but this is one wine that should be tasted. Not bad at all, just different, and would be interesting to see where it is in 10 years.

Very intense and full body with complex aroma such as Honey, apple juice, butterscotch, honeysuckle. Fine and rich mineral taste such as lime stone. Great balance between freshness, sweetness and acidity. Long lasting aftertaste with obvious tannin feeling like red wine. A great surprise from South Africa.

Yellow-golden. Intense honey, sweet minerality, marzipan and butterscotch. Very Burgundy-like. Full-bodied, oily with sweetness, rich fruit and balancing acidity. Long finish. A nice combination of Burgundian finesse and complexity with new world richness and power.

This is probably the best SA white I have had. Elegant, restrained and packed with quality. Semi golden colour - the nose has whispy notes of lemon and minerals. On the palate a wonderful balance between fresh, crisp fruit and deeper elements of melon, honey, citrus, stoney fruit - good structure. Like licking wet stones covered in honey at times. Really quite wonderful. Excellent. Easily a 90+ wine for those who like their scores.

Bright yellow-green. Initially closed, opened up gradually to reveal gorgeous honey, apricot, butterscotch, chamomile and honeysuckle aromas. Full-bodied, very dense and oily, with very rich fruit and balancing acidity. Very long finish. Fantastic. Will improve with further cellaring.

2014 Athens Wine Event ( with a bit of Santorini); 6/19/2014-6/22/2014 (Athens & Santorini): Blind tasted. Good glossy colour, nose pointed toga Chenin, good ripe fruit, no feel of oak here. Nice waxy texture, ripe fruit on the palate, rich and balanced. Carries the age well and has a lot of ageing potential and probably better enjoyed post 5 yrs in bottle.92-93
