This is a great wine with a noble, going forever aftertaste. Head and shoulders above most overpriced Italian Nebiollos. I woke up this morning with a clear memory of this wine on my palate, something I did not experience even with Latour or Mouton, for example.

Tasted double-blind. So so so Parkerized. Tastes like 200% new French oak, and tannic too. I thought it was Parkerized cult Spanish wine; my wife said Napa Cab. No Italian acid, just oak and tar. No even much fruit frankly. The lack of Barolo designation on Gaia’s wines seems truly fitting. #NotMyBarolo

A simply astonishing wine. Paired with Parpadelle and homemade Porcini Bolognese sauce. Phenomenal nose. Flavors were just magical as the wine evolved and integrated with the meal. Decanted 4+ hours. First sip out of the bottle before the decant was like the best teaser ever.

First of a four pack. In a flight of 06 Cavallotto SG/06 Aldo Conterno Colonnello/06 Gaja Sperss. All three wines decanted for ~8 hours prior to dinner. A highly consistent flight. This was the most concentrated and powerful of the wines. Good round fruit, but by no means modernist. Terrific cherry, tar and dried floral character. Fruit can handle the structure. No doubt this is young and will be better in 10+ years.

Herbs, dark fruit, tar on the nose, brighter fruit, stable, beef, herbs, tar, tar, tar, floral hints on the palate. Lots of smooth tannins with bright fresh acidity, high concentration, super balance. Had its best moments after 90 minutes in the glass with highly intense tar and bright red fruit aromas accompanied by fine herbal and floral scents. The three highlights for me: 1) High concentration paired with great elegance and finesse, 2) intense tar minerality, 3) high complexity with ever changing aromas.
We did not decant the wine and just let it breath in the glasses which did the job. Nevertheless, I would advise for a short decant. Some more years in the bottle will certainly further soften the tannins and make it even better, there is plenty of freshness and fruit left.

Tasted with a dinner at Villa Sparina in Piedmont. Opened, but didn‘t decant on suggestion of the Sommelier - have to say we had enormously huge glasses, however! High intensity punch on the nose. So full of tar that the fruit appeared dark initially, but is bright red and fresh on the palate. Also some herbal notes, flowers and smokiness. With a couple of hours in the glass the fruit becomes brighter (strawberry, the candy type). Later a bouquet of flowers with tar moving into the background. Still tannin-heavy, but soft and well integrated. A powerful, expressive landmark of masculinity that sucks you into the glass if you‘re not chained to the chair! No rush to pop if you have this in your cellar, but in my view we just entered the drinking window now - so no need to hold back either!

Weekend in London; 5/12/2017-5/13/2017 (Ledbury, Il Baretto, Hedonsim): Opened and decanted and then drank over the course of prob 1.5-2 hours. It's MUCH too young for sure, but actually worked pretty ok. Get quite a bit of wood and oak. Get some black cherry and fig. Some earth and dirt there. Continued to open up as we drank it. Nice wine and a fun treat.

Close to perfection and I would not object if someone scored this 97-98. With roses and typical nebbiolo licorice, and with a rare elegance. Very drinkable after 30 minutes in the glass.

Super intense and vibrant - still too young I recon and has neary endless aging potential - lots of fruit and smokey notes - long lingering finish

Sperss 06 is singing. Surprisingly open and sweet fruited for the vintage. Super and will become stellar with more age.
