still young: dark fruit and light scents of spices, in the mouth 2008 is shining through with an acidity that still needs some more years to fully integrate. Tasted alongside the 2005 which was a powerhouse even needing more years in the cellar!

The Triple Threat "165" Birthday Bash (65/60/40) (Minikahda Club, Mpls): Medium dark red color. PNP, drank a glass over 90 minutes plus. This was a little more brooding and introspective for me tonight. Nice darker cherry fruit, clay, tart cherry, some dark fruit too, powerful, spiced, more dense and full on the palate, anise. This seemed like it was just coming into its window and would benefit from a good bit of air. Flighted with an '06 DRC 1er Duvalt-Blochet that had more finesse and complexity tonight. A very nice bottle that will likely be better in a couple years.

Thank you Jimmy, I loved this tonight! Another fabulous blt to celebrate Davids soon to be 60, my 65 and Jimmy's milestone 40. One of the things I love about Jimmy is his old soul combined with youthful energy and always good nature. Love Jimmy and his dad Leo! This wine was superb tonight and I'm kicking myself that I never bought any of these myself when for a short few years we could source them dirt cheap. We since lost our local distribution and the prices have soared beyond the reach of mere mortals. I'd also recently had an absolutely killer 06 Ruchottes on my birthday night with Nita. So this was singing tonight. Offering up forest floor, spice and dark fruit on the nose. The aromas carried through to a rich yet energetic palate where the fruit was sublime. Plenty of dark raspberry, mineral, licorice and more forest floor. Very Vosne and very very classy stuff. Thanks Jimmy!

La Paulée de New York - The Verticals (Eventi Hotel - New York NY): Walk around tasting, in 12/08/06 vertical. Brawny black and red cherry to start, powerful and slightly brooding. Brighter and more elegant finish bodes well for its future. Good today, even if not quite perfectly harmonious, but I am optimistic for its future, 92-93 point potential.

What a great bottle of Burgundy. It has all the Grand Cru things: soaring nose, velvety palate, endless finish. It was such an interesting juxtaposition with the Verset because it showed that they were both Grand Cru in stature. Without making a grocery list of fruits and flowers, this had everything you'd want and while it should improve for years (or decades depending on how you like these things) it was a pleasure to drink now.

First bottle opened from an original case. Seriously youthful but with the Gibourg signature style of herbs, sliced sweet cherries and spice on the nose followed by restrained palate, red fruit, deep. My guess is this wine will need another 2 year so fully show its amazing potential.

Peter Wasserman Birthday Dinner (The Bristol - Chicago IL): Open an hour before serving. Seemed almost tired at first, this kept getting bigger and brighter with more time in glass. More spice kept coming through, red fruit kept getting more robust, more of everything got more pronounced. So good now, this wine has clear upside from here.

Afterparty (Weingut Keller, Flörsheim-Dalsheim, Germany): We where all surprised after the bottle was showed. I´m not familiar with the wines of this Domaine mostly because they are very hard to come by and the prices are high when you have to buy on the secondary market. Red and dark fruit mixed with some spices but also lactic notes dominate the nose. On the palate very fresh, clean but also round and missed a bit the tension on the mid-palate. A bit one dimensional for a GC.

was reticent about opening this wine but it showed really well. A powerful wine that shows lots of dark berries and spices as others have mentioned.Currently very fresh and showing a lot but will only get better with more time. 93+

Deep ruby. Spicy, open knit aromas of red & black berries, anise, sandalwood, and a hint of sous bois. Medium-light body, framed by nice acidity, with flavors of red fruit and spice. The 2008 Echézeaux is in a very nice spot now but should continue to develop positively for a few more years and then drink well for several more.

Opened, not decanted and drank over 2.5hrs. A wonderful mix of red berry fruit and finely ground brown spices on both the nose and palate. Great freshness and acidity all throughout. Still has structure and tannins to allow for further aging, but in a nice window currently. Very tasty.

La Paulée de New York Grand Tasting (Metropolitan Pavilion - New York NY): Tasting, brief note. Much like I recall from last year at the Domaine, this is dense and serious with lots of spice. The structure seems slightly more forward and prominent today, but this will be a wine to stash away for a decade+ and is probably starting to shut down.

Mugneret-Gibourg Cellar Visit, Tasting 2008s (Vosne-Romanee): Great red cherry and raspberry aromas with big spice. Same bright fruit on palate, also well spiced with excellent structural components that stay in the background. Both elegant and powerful. Very impressive, very worth seeking out.

Too light fruited & lacking harmony, unusual for this domaine. Slightly better than the Ruchottes which added a layer structure/austerity
