1st of 12, decanted an hour, perfect cork and level - dark, slightly mat but translucent ruby, notably leggy, little rim development; cherry and plum, some chocolate and spice, really nicely layered for right bank; fullish, long, vv persistent and concentrated with volume of top vintage, even expands in mouth, silky, grippy, quite complex and with admirable relaxed expression of fruit, upside here, 15+ years. F+ (18)......broached this case after previous night's VCC for a compare and contrast, the May is further along its evolution and pro tem a much nicer drink but in 15 years I suspect VCC will have edge when it starts unfurling.

Black fruit into a big savory character, the tannins were very soft and this had a lot going on. First try at an aged Pomerol and this has me interested in more.

PNP tight, dry, crisp. After aeration into the decanter (very little sediment) things softened up revealing a wonderfully expressive nose of blueberry, light smoke/wood eucalyptus and menthol all matching on the palate. Throughly enjoyable!

Continuing to develop, this wine has lovely texture and balance. It will not overpower and can be druck now. However, I expect it will pick up at least a point with 5+ years in the cellar.

Deep red center with light red rims. Lovely medium+ intensity nose of blackberries, mocha, plums, and minerals.
Relatively light bodied in the mouth, this wine was light and showed very little at first. After hour 3 it started to fill out and firm up. While still ethereal, this was a lovely young well balanced wine.
While drinking, this wine will likely improve over the next 5-10 years.

Popped and poured last nite. Nose has some aromas of fruit, saddle leather & cedar. Medium bodied, still some red fruit on the palate. Seems a bit thin however. Some spicebox and cedar on the palate, decent length. Nothing overwhelming here and, for the great 2000 vintage, a bit disappointing

First off I really like Certan. I have had a lot of great bottles of it. ‘86, ‘89, ‘96, ‘98. This wasn’t bad but for a great vintage it wasn’t amazing either and it paled against those other years. Kind of like ‘90. A touch overextracted, not great acid but also not really mellow like great pomerol should be. My only bottle of it. Pretty glad I didn’t buy much.

This wine needs food. I repeat this wine needs food. Without it unripe vegetal tannins disappointing. With a steak good, not great. Tonight enjoyed with a traditional French beef stew. Balanced, tannic, has at least 5-8 years . A light hue at rim but solid mahogany in glass. Decanted for 3 hours. I will let the remaining 6 bottles sit for another year and check back.

This wine needs to be consumed with food!! Without food very vegetal with unripe tannins giving it a very citrus taste. Almost a feeling of acidity, very lemon tart aftertaste. With a steak this wine shines. Soft feel with a hint of fruit and a light body. If you can pick up a case cheaply at auction do so. Drinking great now with a few years left. Make sure decant for at minimum 2 hours.

The wine started to show well immediately once decanted. dark chocolate, tobacco, and earth. Tannins fully integrated. Best showing out of the bottles I tasted. No longer thin actually had a lasting finish. Went well with the Flannery rib roast.

- Garnet color with medium forming legs. It's somewhat balanced with a medium/full body. Smooth texture with a long finish - Totally closed at first but 2 hours after decanting it was a different story. Black currant, pepper and liquorice on the nose and masses of dark fruit in the mouth. Soft tannins but just a hint that this is passing its peak now with a little acidity on the finish.

Westchester Wine School - Premium Wine Tasting (Bar Lees, Mamaroneck, NY): Drank at WWS tasting alongside 2004 Valandraud and 2000 Canon Le Gaffeliere. Decanted for an hour in advance. Fairly light in color. Fairly generous nose of dark fruits & a bit of coffee (next to the 2000 which reeked of coffee, it was hard to tell). Fruit has faded somewhat, leaving mostly tertiary elements and some spice. I've had this wine a few times over the past year and, as I commented last time I drank it it's a bit thin and lacking in complexity. Again a disappointment, especially knowing that this wine has likely seen its best days with little to look forward to. It was especially difficult to like this wine coming on the heels of the 2000 Canon Gaffeliere which was fantastic.

This is still a great wine. Dark & rich. I am writing this note after the wine having been open for three days. I opened it two nights ago and it was tasting great with a nose of violets and black berries with a medium viscosity and medium tannins. The fruit was cherries and black berries and it was really tasty. Now on night three the wine exhibits a nose of prune and leather and on the palate the wine has a rich silky viscosity and displays cassis, raisin, a mineral quality that is intriguing and unexpected. ON the whole this wine has aged really well and could still go a couple more years easily.

Drank with Ozzie at Mistral. Decanted for an hour in advance and then again at restaurant. Dark ruby color. Fairly big nose of plums and perhaps coffee grinds. Soft on the palate, smooth and silky mouthfeel, sweet, tart plummy fruit with soft tannins mostly at the backend. All dark fruit here with some mocha at the back. As I commented last time I drank this wine, still lacking in complexity. (Then I though it was due to the spicy food I was eating; not this time as we had pheasant and boar, a great match). Somewhat disappointed with the 1-dimensional nature of this wine. Lots of fruit but nothing more. I won't touch this wine again for some years to let it, perhaps, develop a bit more. A good, not a great or memorable wine.

Brought to Vegas and had with the boys on our last nite out, unfortunately with fairly spicy Asian cuisine that didn't really match. Nonetheless, we decanted at the table and the wine was very enjoyable, if not particularly noteworthy. Medium to dark red color in the glass, showing no signs of age. Soft tannins, round & full mouthfeel, plums, cassis and dark fruit that was quite ripe, though not annoyingly sweet. Some lead pencil on the fairly long finish. The problem with this wine is its lack of complexity and fairly 1-dimensional nature. Still, I look forward to returning to this wine, to drink with the right food (perhaps duck), as it is drinking very nicely right now though I doubt it will improve much in bottle. Good for another 4-5 years at least I'd estimate.

Blind (Pomerol tasting). Decanted for "a while". Dark red with slight signs of bricking. The nose is peculiarly perfumed, towards a flowery soap bar. On the palate: Still very young with marrow and power. I perceive this is an average wine with a good structure. One-dimensional. Difficult to assess. Must admit to raising my points 2 notches after reading comments here on CT. Maybe I was lazy or missed something obvious when I tasted this one. Over priced.

13% alcohol. 70% merlot, 25% cab franc, 5% cabernet. opened and worked thru a glass, quickly realizing that it would benefit from decanting. now followed in the glass for 5 hours. tannins originally gritty showed pleasant integration, but are still active. mild herbaceousness. developed secondary nuances. black olive, green bean, blackberry, tinged with red. seems to be in a solid drinking window now - 2015. decent enough, yet somewhat pedestrian, and too expensive.

Nice light red and black berries on the nose. Round in the palate with some bitter and edgy tannin. This is OK but it shows me again that for me personally on the right bank 1998 was better than 2000.

From a case purchased upon release, this wine had a purple/red center with red rims. The medium intensity nose featured blackberries, raspberries, mocha, and some anise.
In the mouth, the wine was round, ripe, and medium bodied. It needed a five+ hours to show its best and, obviously, it was too young. It was good after 2 hours but developed an extra dimension after 5. Overall, it is an impressive wine and it should continue to improve for at least a decade. My score should improve somewhat at that time.

Medium ruby color. Hedonistic nose shows coffee, milk chocolate, dried fruits and a hint of tea. Medium bodied, reasonably long finish but palate doesn't deliver what the nose promises. Tannins seem to be resolved so not sure if this will make old bones.
