This is my second only vintage Argyle Pinot acquired from helping someone thin out a well stored from release cellar. The first was a 09' Cowhouse but that really seemed to have faded fruit and lacking where this Nuthouse 04' was better but maybe just my lack experience with them or their vintage wines. YMMV just wanted to not it for others as they both apparently are way out of drinking window. Just another reason to not buy so much you don't know whats there until too late hmmm.

I am in trouble. Big trouble. My wife left with one of the boys today to visit her parents and we are going to join them soon. Alone, watching March Madness, I ached for a Pinot. I decided to grab this one since it was past the CT drinking window (2013) and the last bottle was, well, ho-hum. This one wasn't. By a long shot. Great from nose (blackberry and cassis), through the mid-palate (rich, deep, and profound), and on to the finish (Whoa), this was by far the best of the half-case I bought back in 2007. Whoa. And one more Whoa. Outstanding. Plus. thedrunkencyclist.com

Hmmmm. Might have been a tad too long, but this is still pretty darn good. Surprisingly, the red fruit is on the darker side--not the lithe, fresh fruit that I associate with Oregon. Nonetheless, a solid glass, but I would drink up if you have any in the cellar. Very Good to Outstanding. thedrunkencyclist.com

This is amazing. Did not decant, just opened and aired in the glass. Drank over a couple of hours, but it was good at opening. Red and blue fruits, smoky, earthy, a little christmas spice, a little menthol. Smooth, well balanced, and with a very long finish.

gorgeous floral, red fruit, earthy scents, silky with good structure, tasty, d3 spicy fruit, hint of oak on nose, soft, round, satiny, great flavors, zippy acidity, touch of heat is only real flaw

Decanted about 30 minutes before drinking. Fairly light in color, tending towards cola. On the nose there is some woodiness, similar to a Rioja, along with candied cherries. On the palate it is heavier on the oak and fruits (ripe strawberries) and less on earthiness. Not particularly complex, but still enjoyable to drink. A little out of balance--I would prefer a little less oak, more complexity, more acidity, and more earthiness.

Aerated in the decanter for about 90 minutes. Cloudy in the glass. Medium ruby color, transparent. Better after the aeration - pretty ripe fruit flavors, smoky, with slight hints of christmas spices perhaps enhanced by the food. Longish finish. Quite smooth.

Ready to drink now. Burgandy style wine. Burnt crimson color. Showing ripe red fruits with some minerality on the palate. I like the way it flows over my palate. The finish on ths way is medium. Not too complex but very enjoyable.

Twist and poured, this bottle seemed a bit past it's prime, while there was still some bitter plum, cherry and hints of earth and vanilla making this exceptable, there was a bitter componet on the finish that I did not detect from earlier bottles. Perhaps an off bottle, will not rate as privious bottle's were quite enjoyable!

Very nice mouthfeel to this wine. The silkiness is definitely the highpoint. Not complex, but good cherry flavours backed up with a little bit of spice. has staying power; would be worth holding and seeing if further complexity develops over the next 2 - 5 years.

Twist and poured, dark plum, black cherry, vanilla and earth in the nose. On the palate, good balance between the dark fruits and earth, hints of spice, not too candied or sweet. Smooth, soft finish. I will be no hurry to drink my remaining bottles!

Crimson colored at the core but immediately dissipates to the sides. Bouquet of red roses, vanilla and oak. Medium-bodied, no peaks, no bumps, just through the palate with a silky texture. Has a core of strawberry, raspberry, and a little bite of cedar. Slightly lifted alcohol, slightly cirtrusy at the sides of the palate, giving the sensation of sourness but the conflicting sweetness overcomes it. The finish isn't so long, but decent. Very interesting. Drink now.

It's hard to believe that it has been 2 years since we have visited this wine, but time sure does fly when you bury them in the cellar. Out of site, out of mind! Popped and poured through the Vinturi tonight into a decanter on the bistro with Raphael and Fabiana. Gorgeous Oregon color in the glass, nice and light, with good hues too it. On the nose, this wine was much more fragrant than I had remembered it. Very nice and classic red berries with strawberry and cherry. Nothing Californian about this pinot at all, with subtle fruits, herb, earthiness, and spice. On the palate, this wine has really come together in the last two years. The fruits have integrated with the alcohol and the tannins are totally mellowed. Dark cherry is the shining star, with some raspberry right on it's heals. Secondary nuances of cranberry, blueberry, and pomegranate come through, and the finish lingers with integrated tannins. Very happy to have a few more of these in the cellar. Drink or hold. 92 points.

I have been sitting and sitting on these for some time. Finally, decided to unscrew one. Poured through a Vinturi, otherwise, no decant. Light to medium color for a pinot, brilliantly translucent. Great nose of some dried cherry and a hint of cinnamon. On the palate, really did well with some fruit upfront (but not too much), silkiness through the mid-palate and a medium to long finish. Outstanding. Still plenty of time left if I can hold off.

Twist off and poured, nothing fake or over the top on this beauty, everything is intergrating quite nicely since the last bottle I tried 9/08. Wild spicey red berries, vanilla and earth in the nose. These componets continue on to the palate, which is soft, sweet and elegant. Very long and smooth finish, certainly in its drinking window, with several more years left in this pinot's future.

Down to my last bottle, and I've just not warmed up to this pinot. Has never really come together. Too woody. Sometimes too hot, takes a long time to open in the glass. Decanting helps, but just not that much "pinot."

Did not decant, opened 45 minutes and came around in the glass. Great pairing with mushroom lasagna. Outstanding.
Strong nose of dark red fruit, cranberry, earthy spice, a little smokiness, maybe some tobacco. Same on the nose with the fruit dominating. Rich mouthfeel in a medium bodied wine. Smooth with mouthwatering acidity. Longish finish.

This tasted the best to me right upon opening. Sour cherries dominate with some alcohol on the finish. This is a love hate relationship for me. Not sure weather I would buy more or not. Going to see how the next few bottles in the cellar go.

I think it needs more cellar time, but others at the dinner did not agree. I found it a bit hot, but with real potential. Smokey, not bright like many Oregon pinots. Paired well with Portobello Mushroom Soup.

Thanksgiving Dinner: Dark Garnett red,Very layered in both aroma and taste. Vanilla coffee/caramel with red berry fruit on the nose. Deeper layered berries and cream, middle pallete dusty cocoa, with a slight herb and pepper finish that lasts for 1-2 minutes/ Just gorgeous. I would have thought this would last for another 2-4 years in the celler, but paired well with everything from sausage stuffing to crenberry relish. The 2005 went up another $15 in in area of Ohio. not sure if I would consider a QPR but darn good pinot.

Not as rich as other vintages of this wine but still enjoyable. Short on the nose and finish but decent notes of cola, bright cherry and slightly underripe raspberry. Lacks the crispness and rich fruit of previous vintages.

This well aged Pinot Noir is light garnet red that is just barely opaque. After marveling at the lightness of the color and pour the nose if fragrant, blackberry, and floral undertones. The taste is precise subdued fruit that slides into a long soft finish. Though quite good for a so so vintage its below par compared to the 2005 Cowhouse. 90

Splashed decanted for 2hrs, this wine evolved over the 3 hrs we took to drink it.Lots of red fruit, floral spices, cherry and a touch of vanilla through out the nose and palate, with no candy sweet flavors I get with so many CA pinots. A young pinot that needs a couple of years to come around. 90+

Light and easy drinking. Nose of red fruit and soap notes. Fresh cherry and strawberry taste. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel with light spice. This is the third time I've tasted this, but first I've attempted to score. This ranks third of the three tastes I've had. The last one about nine months ago was outstanding.

I agree with much of what's been said about this one. It's refreshingly light-bodied and zingy, but there's a modicum of grace here, too. I find a bit of the usual toffee, raspberry, rose water, and spice. The spice, in particular, is pronounced on the nice long finish. It's not spectacular for the price, but it's clearly a well-made wine. As with most other Argyles, it's reliable; you know what you're getting. Even in the absence of profundity, I can respect that.

Great already, but is definitely still young and could use some more time in the bottle. Truth be told, I think this bottle could use another 5-10 years, and then it will be fabulous. Some cherries and a hint of spice, maybe even vanilla on the nose. Tons of sour cherry and plum, and some other dark fruits on the palate, with other hints of black fruits. Will definitely purchase more of these, but won't revisit it for another year or more. Good wine to put in the cellar and forget you had for a few years! Picked up 3 more, and they are HOLD HOLD HOLD. i will give this wine 3-5 more years before revisiting the 4 more that I have.

I truly enjoyed this wine. Medium bodied with a velvety feel. Had it before and during a miso glazed salmon dinner and was tasty all throughout. Remember the nose having some black cherry and hint of toast. Not too complex yet accesible and very very very enjoyable. Jean didnt particularly love it since she likes the fruitier style ones.

Beautiful nose and continues to open with time--elegant. Definitely needs some air to add depth but even so it's a very elegant wine for an American Pinot. Almost too reserved and perhaps too understated since it doesn't come around with supporting Earthy notes and complexity to hold it up. That said, it's a very nice wine but not worth the price tag in my opinion.

Splash decanted one hour. Deep Ruby red in color with some transparency to the rim. The nose envelopes one with very comforting aromas of dark cherries, earth and toast. A very enjoyable, silky mouth feel giving tastes of cherries and dark fruit. Just a little tight and holding back from yielding something more complex. Presently lightly complex in taste and bigger on the nose than the palate. Overall, very nice and was a perfect pairing with a maple syrup glazed wild salmon. This is truly a Pinot for a meal. Very enjoyable.

Finally found ($59@Dragers) - high expectations. Right out of the bottle its pretty tight. Over a couple of hours - very well balanced earth, young tannins and acids. Very Oregon. Austere fruit. Would like to see what 3 years does to this..but at $59? With more than enough West Coast PN in the cellar, collecting the insane '06 Austrians instead.

Wow. Very nice pinot. Decanted for 2 hours before having with roast chicken. Clear red in the glass. Soft nose of cherry and earth. Dark cherry on the palate with more earthy notes. Strong acidity and tannins. Medium bodied. Medium length finish. Very nice. Needs age.
(Early on the mouthfeel was quite creamy, but became more of a normal pinot mouth feel after a couple of hours in the decanter.)

Solid Pinot. I have preferred a number of Russian River Pinots in this price range, but this was an enjoyable cocktail hour wine. Served a little too warm and might have been better with appetizers with more zip. Good, but not mind blowing. Fruit was present and balanced but it the finish disappeared quickly and the elegance of a real memorable Pinot wasn't there.

Delicate, earthy nose and taste, and I agree with other comments that this wine is somewhat closed. The body is very light, but nothing unusual for pinot. Just no "wow" factor present. It's drinkable, but there's much better pinot from Willamette Valley (and lots of other places too) at this price level ($45). I was disappointed as Argyle has had a good reputation for pinot noir in the past, but I think I've missed the boat.

Dedcanted 1 hr. Terrific nose of cherry, rose pedals and underbrush, but this is a little flat and a little closed on the palate with otherwise, well balanced flavors of dark cherry, faint black berries and earth notes. Soft, supple entry with good spice notes and some acidity. Should do better with a few years in the cellar.

Served at the Wine Club at a tasting. I had heard about this wine before and was looking forward to tasting it. Unfortunately, I was somewhat disappointed. The alcohol was noticable to me; and I found it somewhat watery. Perhaps with some bottle age? My notes said "Fair to Good".

Aromas evoke lovely end of summer spicy wild berries, earth and cured meats. Palate coating with excellent grip and supple tannins. Persistent long finish. I will have to buy more to see how this wine (screw top) will age. Will merit a higher score if the earthy undertones become more pronounced.
Our first taste of this wine was squirted from a turkey baster out of the barrel and into our glasses during a visit to Argyle in November of 2005. It showed tremendous potential and we were told it wouldn't be released until April of 2007 so we had to be patient. Patience paid off as this is an absolutely fantastic wine. Black cherries and dark fruits with a touch of earth on the nose and the mouthfeel is on the lighter side of medium bodied and wonderfully creamy. The flavors start of subtle at first and then the fruit and a bit of minerals come in midpalate with a touch of the new oak on the silky smooth finish.

This wine feels like it's just coming into its own. Petal soft on the palate with gorgeous dark fruits and spring flowers. No longer tight or hot, just smooth and friendly.
