Dammit. Still too early. Musty and muted for an hour. Then it opened up gorgeously. Red fruit and tannins and all kinds of finish. Trying to leave some in the glass for another hour. Fun quarantine wine.

Still looks young. Nose of dark cherries, flowers. Extracted sweet cherries, tar, medicinal flavours, light herb. Smooth sweet tannins and long finish. Hasn’t opened up fully and can do with some bottle age.

A beautiful vino! Simple and earthy with that Montalcino chalk taste. Antinori always delivers. A very nice Brunello that has aged well and will continue to do so.

Expressive Sangiovese nose, appropriately earthy and shitty, like a cow had pooped there a few weeks before but then some sweet fruit grew out of the cow patty. Flowery on the palate and a bit drying. The tannins are still very grippy. I think this could use a few more years to soften up.

The last, and by far the best, of my stock. It was just singing right out of the bottle. Only a 30 min decant and drank over a couple hours. This is what Brunello is all about to me. Perfect balance of flavors singing in concert. Classic leather, underbrush, a perfume walking a line between barnyard and flower garden. Still a decent grip of tannins but, again, wonderfully balanced.

At 11 years old, a fine example of what makes Montalcino rightly famous for the quality of its Sangiovese. Shows its age with a dark ruby with a slight brown edge. But very enjoyable, integrated, and rounded, with a delicious red and black cherry. Brightly acidic without being sour, and tannic without being astringent and grippy. Tasting it over 5 days, kept coming back to drink more. Repeatedly was the best wine when served with 6 others.

Dinner with Bob at Linda's new restaurant: Classico Tomato Pies, great new spot, BYO. Bob brought this one, drank after the Barbaresco I brought. My first experience with this wine, PnP, drank over an hour.
Dark garnet color, slight separation at the rim. Nose showing red berries, leather. Palate of dark cherry, berries, tobacco, licorice, spices. Great secondary notes, earthy through the mid palate. Medium/long finish.
In a great spot right now, ready to drink, but should last a while if wanting to cellar. This was open at about 20 minutes in.

Slight bricking at the rim - red fruits with a touch of hay and floral notes. Medium to light bodied but with no lack of power or density, after a couple of hours in the decanter the wine opened and took on a bit more weight, nicely balanced sweetness and acidity, partially resolved tannins, good length - an aromatic palate. Good.

A quite unremarkable wine, technically well made but with little soul, sense of place or typicity. Strawberry jam, a hint of milk chocolate and a bit of tobacco on the nose, some noticeable alcohol too. Less overtly alcoholic on the palate with plenty of sweet red fruits, medium tannin and medium acidity. Its actually reasonably balanced but it really could be from anywhere.
It reminds me of an 05 Caronne St Gemme (Bordeaux), an undemanding "smooth jazz" sort of wine from a good vintage that's never going to be much more than just fine. Nothing wrong with that and the Caronne's served me well but I had higher expectations (and paid almost double the price) for the Antinori and so it feels somewhat of a let-down.

Opened about 6 hours before pouring; touch of earth around the rosemary and red fruit bouquet, nice nose, tannins still firm but decent finish. A lovely wine that held up against the tomato based pasta dish we served--the acids balance the fruit and tannin. With one bottle left, I will hold another 3 to 4 years i think.

Wow. A real turnaround from December as this bottle had very smooth tannins and the beautiful typicity of BdM shining through, albeit with a nod to New World style. Ready after only an hour or so in decanter. Aroma is still a bit light, but proper. New tertiary notes are revealing in the bouquet and add extra dimension to the finish. In lieu of bottle variance, I suspect this has just entered the prime window for drinking. 5+11+17+8 = 91

Other TNs suggest two camps:: love it and tinges of disappointment. First bottle of stash hit the later category. Too thin, too much alcohol and a strangely short finish -- but really don't think was corked. Maybe time will help but doesn't feel like it. Hope I'm wrong but certainly no "bammo" that Brunellos should deliver.

Assez long et persistant. Très bon, manque un peu de temps!

Drank over 2 nights. Resolved after about 2 hours of airtime and didn't change much after that. Color is a slightly tawny ruby, about 70% opaque with clear and very slow legs. No sediment. Light to medium volume on the nose, displaying red berries, cassis, some roses and a bit of hobby glue (which I like). Also some pronounced barnyard and funk which drifted away over time. Medium bodied with brisk acidity. Powerful tannins have a firm hold on the palate and tended to mute the fruit, leaving mostly leather and balsamic notes. Not bringing the real BdM thunder I had hoped for. Medium finish. I expect some improvement in the future. 5+10+15+8 = 88

Osteria I Nonni Fall Italian Tasting 2013 (I Nonni, St. Paul, MN): Tasting pour x 2. This oozed sweaty saddle leather, stinky barnyard and dank earth, all of which followed to a somewhat vegetal, barnyard palate, with grippy tannins. Tried this several times thinking it had to get better, but it stayed very one dimensional. 89(?)

Opened and left for an hour. I was surprised by its juiciness. Loaded with extracted sweet cherry and plum. Very fresh, not a hint of oxidation. It's shed a good deal of its tannins already. Still enough acidity to give it legs. I'll open another later this fall to determine the fate of my other bottles.

An ethereal nose that is fully evolved and well into its secondary development as well: fresh mushroom, black olive, black cherry, gravel pit, tamale, flower shop and terracotta. Elaborate and gregarious, this is so sexy as well. Fine and grainy tannins; what a long finish of focus and length. Almost velvety on the end and reminds me more of the '07 vintage in five years time than anything from '06 - however, enthralling she is....and almost reminescent of Cote Rotie. Intriguing indeed. Drink now - 2025.

Dark crimson color with a perfumed nose of cola, leather and vanilla. The body is full but ultra soft and silky texture that just glides through the palate. It has an effervescent character showing flavors of currants, plums, earth, clove, tobacco, and chocolate. Has a lengthy, mineral-filled finish with hints of truffle, clove and herbs on surprisingly chewy tannins. A lovely, elegant wine. Drink now with 30 minutes of decanting until 2018. 93-94 Pts.

Taste: Medium/full bodied with medium+ acidity and some good youthful tannins. The structure is certainly there, but it isn't completely overpowering. Beneath the structure lie plush tones of licorice, dark red cherries, dark red fruits, and roasted herbs.
Overall: This is a very young brunello. It can certainly use some age, but there is very good balance and depth on both the nose and palate.

Wow. Even at 60$ this is killer. drank it over two nights: with risotto and red sauce 1st; then lamb chops 2nd. Med dark red. This was so goood the 2nd day: Great Brunello nose, fruit leather, cigar box, - lot of cigar box, yummy, great acidity and good mouthfeel. This is fairly big and yet very well balanced... but serve it with food. med long finsih. Tannins are superbly integrated and mellow. Very good example of what Brunello can be. It still needs 3-5 years in teh bottle. I need more of this stuff. Went perfectly with the rosmary, herb de Provence and basil dry rubbed lamb chops. Much better witht eh chops than the red sauce. Just killer with meat. In a couple years this will be a 94 pt wine. Drinks so well now, but still has years to go. Damn good; much better on day two than day one.

Not especially interesting. Nothing objectionable, but not noteworthy. Maybe a couple more years and try again?

Didn't match my expectations. Too sweet and alcoholic. Too modern to my taste. Didn't show the characteristics of sangiovese.

Drinking very well right now. Decanted for around 40 min. Served at 65F. Balanced tannins with cherry highlights. The structure and balance in this wine make it very flexible for food pairing. Very pleased.

Sandalwood, leather with a fresh earthy note. Perfumed and sweet out of bottle. Perfect balance and a long finish. Tangy citrus, spice and cherry aftertaste. Lingering tannins. Structure and elegance all wrapped into one package. Nice wine.

Drink now with 30 minutes of decanting until 2018. 93-94 Pts.

2013 Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri tour (Union Station, Chicago, IL): Nose: While the nose is on the tighter side, there are still plush tones of licorice, dark red cherries, dark red fruits, roasted herbs, and spice tones.

Long time since I last tried Pian Delle Vigne. This 2006 confirms to me that Antinori consistently makes a great Brunello with Pian. Only bought one bottle to try....need to buy some more. Beautiful wine!

The tannins are so smooth they meld into the wine to make this so drinkable now. Love this Brunello. Drink now, it's hard not to resist, -2022.
