IPNC Weekend 2023; 7/26/2023-7/31/2023: Small glass. Salmon bake. This was a fun one to try; cherry, fink, Christmas spices, medium body. A nice change up.

Cotat's 2016 red is showing very nicely, bursting with aromas of sweet berry fruit, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy palate that's supple and succulent. This is a juicy, fruit-driven Pinot Noir that's generous and uncomplicated, drinking well today.

This was a weird wine. Blind I don't know if I would call PN. Interesting that my wife and friend both said "guava" while I interpreted the wine as red fruit with some papaya notes. Funky and was fun to try but I'm not buying any more of these.

While I like traditional wines and also funky and natural wines, I’m not sure what this wine was. Closed upon opening, this needed about 30 minutes to open up and reveal itself. But even then there was a one-dimensional note of red cherry and dried cherry with some vegetal notes. Reminded me a bit of a pinot from Jura but would be challenging to identify as pinot blind. Worth trying as an educational experience but would probably not buy again.

Let me just say that this is an awfully weird expression of Pinot noir. It has really nothing going on that would suggest Pinot to someone tasting blindly. Dare you to try this out on someone who knows their stuff.
In any case, there’s a ton of vegetal notes going on up front, with leather and dirt. High acidity and no rough tannins to speak of. Some cherry fruit on the palate that doesn’t come through on the nose. I would have guessed cab franc...
