Wine of the night at 2024's Davy's Burgundy tasting. As ridiculous as this sounds, the first image that struck me was of a praying mantis: deliberate, powerful, exact. The nose is still a bit inexact (give it a decade), with a mysterious note of cucumber, but the palate! So powerful, angular, mouthfilling - has any liquid ever given the sensation of stone so strongly? Very, very impressive.
It is reassuring, at these things, to learn that wines which cost £200 a bottle are indeed nice.
